Really like these cards, much more interesting than the originals...Luckily that isn't hard!
Sticking with the [Dwarven] theme, here's another card:Wow sickeningly good, tending towards OP dude even with unique. Kraliks question is important. It needs to be unique and then there no need for limit.
- Dwarven Heart [Dwarven]
Condition
Plays on a Dwarf. Limit 1 per bearer.
If bearer wins a skirmish, exert him to heal X other Dwarfs where X is his damage bonus.
"'... a Dwarf goes on, be the burden twice his own weight...'"
1 V 10
Thranduil
I STILL dont see a unique dot lol.No, that's because I changed the card so that I was hoping it would not need it. Is it better now?
Echo Kralik though still seems good. Either youre underestimating how much damage you can make Gimli or Thrarin or you think Dwarves needs healing. No, it's just that I was drawing my ideas from the original card. Trust me I know exactly how much damage Gimli or Thrarin will have!
(0) Dwarven Heart (http://lotrtcgdb.com/pages/LOTR01010.html) [Dwarven]Couple grammatical fixes:
Condition
Plays on a Dwarf. Limit 1 per bearer.
If bearer wins a skirmish, you may add 2 threats to heal X other Dwarfs where X is his damage bonus.
"'... a Dwarf goes on, be the burden twice his own weight...'"
1 V 10
The main reason I wasn't going to make Dwarven Heart unique, by the way, is that I'm obeying my own rules for virtual cards (ie. no changes above the type/sub-type banner).well dwarves have a lot of zero cost good events...but still useful with awkward moment and such.
Now a few virtual possessions (but still [Dwarven] - my favourite culture and the first I ever made DCs for, as it happens!).
(0) Dwarven Armor (V) [Dwarven]
Possession • Armor
Bearer must be a Dwarf.
At the start of each skirmish involving bearer, you may exert him to make him damage +1.
The strongest armor still being made in Middle-Earth is forged by the Dwarves. It is so heavy, that only they can bear it.
1 V 8
maybe until the regroup phase...
(0) Dwarven Axe (V) [Dwarven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Str: +2
Bearer must be a Dwarf.
Skirmish: Play a [Dwarven] skirmish event during a skirmish involving bearer at twilight -X, where X is bearer's damage bonus.
"' Buckler and corset, axe and sword / And shining spears were laid in horde."'
1 V 9
The main reason I wasn't going to make Dwarven Heart unique, by the way, is that I'm obeying my own rules for virtual cards (ie. no changes above the type/sub-type banner).
Argh! If you'd have just said that from the start it would have been easier!
1 V 8
Fine but how is that armor related? Not very themed.
1 V 9
Phrase it "the twilight cost of each skirmish event played during a skirmish involving bearer is -X. Where X is bearer's damage bonus." Powerful i guess as it basically means dwarves will never pay for skirmish events but most of em are free anyway so its ok.
Thranduil
How about this?
(0) Dwarven Armor (V) [Dwarven]
Possession • Armor
Bearer must be a Dwarf.
Each minion skirmishing bearer loses all attribute bonuses from possessions.
Skirmish: Make a Dwarf that is damage +1 lose all damage bonuses until the regroup phase to play this possession from your discard pile on that Dwarf.
The strongest armor still being made in Middle-Earth is forged by the Dwarves. It is so heavy, that only they can bear it.

Thranduil
I was thinking of a limiting factor on Gloin like 'If you have initiative...' or 'If you cannot spot X threats...' etc. Any thoughts on that?I like lem0n's idea of removing [Dwarven] tokens. Short of that, perhaps threats.
Now I'm going to take a challenge or two (or three). If you have a [Dwarven] card from Fellowship block that you'd like a virtual version of, post your request and I'll try to make the card as soon as possible.Gimli, Dwarf of the Mountain-race. He's X-ed, after all.
[2] • Gimli, Dwarf of the Mountain-Race (V) [Dwarven]Not bad, but the wording seems a little...off. Perhaps instead: "Exert Gimli to play the fellowship's next site if that site is an underground or mountain site". Or perhaps, to keep it simple: "If the fellowship is at an underground or mountain site, exert Gimli to play the fellowship's next site (replacing opponent's site if necessary)."
Companion • Dwarf

uh...shouldn't they stay at least somewhat true to the title/lore/previous card? They are a different take on the title and lore, but I would say they still stick truly to them.
Woah... way broken as worded.

In EACH skirmish not a. And also him jumping into the RBs skirmish is too good.

What??? Gandalf was terrified of taking the ring, Aragorn just said no thanks you keep it. How do you work that out?? Gorn should have more resistance than most particularly Gandy!Except that Gandalf in the end orchestrated the destruction of the Ring, despite temptation, and Frodo offered it to Gandalf much more strongly than to Aragorn. And Aragorn is also terrified of the Ring as Isildur's Bane, being the Heir of Isildur and all.
And also him jumping into the RBs skirmish is too good.Currently this is only possible if your Ring-bearer is Frodo, and this will remain for I do not intend to make Virtual versions of any ARB.

The cards Decipher make (and consequently the ones you virtual-ise) are based on the films. Based on the films, gandalf was no better at his test of the ring than Aragorn then it was upto Frodo (and Sam) not either of them, neither orchestrated anything from anduin onwards. Gorn should be at least as resistant as Gandy. And also him jumping into the RBs skirmish is too good.Currently this is only possible if your Ring-bearer is Frodo, and this will remain for I do not intend to make Virtual versions of any ARB.

Hmmm. Obviously he's great with Hobbits, though I really like the old version. It's fine, just not one I would have replaced, personally. That's a key point, and I'm glad I can address it.

Tricky timing issue here. If youre exhautsed as soon as this guy leaves you you die, not sure if the trigger for each time happens before instantaneous actions such as aformentioned. This depends on whether killing a character is simply an instantaneous effect or a required action. If it were the former, then I suspect you would be right and his ability would have to be worded differently. If it is the latter, the Free Peoples player chooses in which order the two actions occur (ie. whether Sam is transferred before or after his bearer is healed). I have no idea which it is, however...

2 V 34
If you limit those followers to [Shire] fellowship followers, I think it's fine.My problem here is take the [Gondor] side. There are 2 [Gondor] Men in the fellowship. The card requires you to exert [Gondor] Men for the follower ability, so that already limits you to use no more than 1 [Gondor] fellowship follower. This becomes impossible if the same restriction applies to the [Dwarven], [Elven] and [Gandalf] aspects of the cycle when you'd start to have abilities that you couldn't use. So while I can easily agree with those suggestions on principle for the cycle, I can't feasibly implement them I think.
Again, for consistency, I'd limit it to [Gondor] fellowship followers. Not as necessary here, though.
Okay I think I've found some reasonable replacements for the Battle Axe and Bow earlier.fine

Not sure that there should be 2 of these type of artifacts, might make him TOO powerful. The idea is great but having it twice is strong but it helps you have to use an exertion. You not fancy making it a bit more unique? :P

I disagree with your disagreement! Its not free vitality, you had to exert someone so overall within the fellowship its not a net gain in health. But better now its lowered to aid 2. And i dont see how vitality bonsues are that good anyway. Health only matters if you need to exert or take wounds and if you lose that bonus at the end of the turn what point is there?Consider this:
Still think he's extremely limited in use.
All fine i guess though its an absolute crime to reprint Servant, its such a fantastic card its blasphemy to offer an alternative.Fine! If you're going to be that way, I've now changed the title. :clown:

Certainly has potential, especially with Elves. My only "problem" with it is that it would be the first-ever Free Peoples search card. Maybe stealth instead? That's usually the FP counter to search....I understand that, but stealth makes no sense with the title, and neither does spell which the original had.
Okay let's have some cool but slightly off-the wall cards. The first one we've already seen, but I liked it so much I thought I'd post it again! :mrgreen:fine.

Now for a random collection of slightly off-the-wall [Gandalf] cards from the Mines of Moria.Far too easy. It's a free card, with very little cost to bring back. Oh, shoot. You've also got an evil infinite loop going on (I think). If you have five cards in hand, and discard Gandalf's Wisdom to fetch Gandalf's Wisdom, don't you lose and then immediately gain initiative?

If you have five cards in hand, and discard Gandalf's Wisdom to fetch Gandalf's Wisdom, don't you lose and then immediately gain initiative?Good catch on the initiative thing. Since a follower can potentially bear this, might be better to make the vitality bonus conditional on if he is a companion. Nifty otherwise, though.I was thinking that a vitality bonus on a follower would simply have no effect (because followers don't have vitality) and so I left that phrase out. Obviously, I have no clue what the rules are in this case, because there aren't any!

does the even if he is a followers clause necessary? hum...maybe add a threat to make them? IDKThe follower clause is necessary because it is a very clear rule that followers cannot bear cards, so unless a card specifically says a follower can bear it, a follower cannot bear it. I'm not sure I understand your second point, though.

Im not sure gandalf should have site liberation. Hows he gonna do that on his own? Nah the condition part is fine on its own.I disagree: Gandalf should definitely have site liberation of all the characters and cultures in LotR. For example, it is him and ultimately only him that defeats the Uruk-hai at the Battle of Helm's Deep by mustering Erkenbrand's Rohirrim and rousing the Huorns from Fangorn. And the way he prevents the Witch-King from taking Minas Tirith.
That should be cool, once you introduce those keywords more. Nice card. Although on second glance, it pales in comparison to its older counterpart. Not only is it a regroup-phase card, but it also only targets three cards. The reason I didn't want to make a card that discards all conditions is because Decipher rightly moved away from such cards after Towers block. And I think regroup is also an advantage in some respects. Would it be better as a maneuver event?
Hmmm, ok he mustered the rohhirim but it was the thousand spears of the rohan warriors that liberated helms deep not gandalf. And when he faced the wikkie he got pwned.Only in the film. And those rohirrim wouldn't have been at Helm's Deep if not for Gandalf.

I think this is one of those cases where "them" should be "bearer" again. I also agree with my spammy colleague again:
[1] • The Gaffer, Sam’s Father (V) [Shire]
Follower
Aid - exert a Hobbit.
When the Gaffer is transferred to a Hobbit, you may play a pipe or pipeweed from your draw deck.
Response: If bearer is about to take a wound in a skirmish, discard a pipeweed from play to prevent that wound.
”No one had a more attentive audience than old Ham Gamgee, commonly known as the Gaffer. He held forth at the Ivy Bush, a small inn on the Bywater road; and he spoke with some authority, for he had tended the garden at Bag End for forty years…”
1 V 291
"Each time" not when. I think 1 pipeweed for a wound seems too good. Though 2 would be too much. Guess it depends on how many pipeweeds you can play ???
And now 2 more [Shire] followers:
[1] • Master Proudfoot, Distant Relative of Bilbo (V) [Shire]
Follower
Aid - add a burden.
Skirmish: If bearer is a Hobbit, discard a tale or pipeweed from play to cancel a skirmish involving them.
”His name, of course, was Proudfoot, and well merited; his feet were large, exceptionally furry…”
1 V 301
I think as well as discarding a pipeweed (cut the tale bit) you should transfer him back to support area.
[1] • Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal (V) [Shire]

To play, spot 2 Hobbits (or 2 [Shire] followers).
At the start of each skirmish involving bearer, you may reinforce a [Shire] token.

Good, but would that maneuver ability work correctly? Just curious since followers also transfer at the start of the maneuver phase...though I guess you can just do all the "at the start" actions in order, thus transferring one to him and then following up by triggering this action. All the same, perhaps it's better to do it at the END of the maneuver phase? When several actions happen at the same time, the Free Peoples player decides the order in which they occur. So in this case, as all aid costs are paid at the start of the maneuver phase, you can choose to transfer the follower to Sam before you discard it. Therefore it does not require a double move.
"...you may discard 2 pipeweed possessions" is the proper wording. The reason I'm using 'pipeweeds' is because some are possessions and some are conditions. This way, you can use any of them.
So let me get this straight: Sam murders a Hobbit and that... makes Frodo laugh? Is that the flavor you're going for? :mrgreen:Exactly right!

OP, triple strength is not something to bandy about lightly, i think it touches this guy towards too good. The problem with designing Aragorns in the current environment is that they have to compare to Thorongil, who is just ridiculously good with strength 10, resistance 8 and an amazing ability. This one is far more modest with only strength 8, resistance 6 and an amazing ability.
Except the rb????There are 3 cards in fellowship block (V) that can do this (2 [Gondor] - Lord of Gondor and Answering the Cries, 1 [Elven] - Asfaloth) and each of them only work if Frodo is your Ring-bearer (ie. it only replaces fellowship companions and seeing as I do not intend to make virtual versions of any ARB, it will remain always as something for Frodo only. Is this still too much?

I'd put a clause on that triple overwhelming, like while he's unwounded or you can spot a certain number of fellowship companions or something. I understand your point regarding Thorongil and all, but this is still too much, I think. Needs to have SOME limit.Done. Now he only gets it if he's the only companion assigned - inspiration from his lore!
I said it before and I'll say it again: I'd drop valiant. I know why you did it, but it just doesn't make any sense gameplay-wise.There's one more virtual card which gives [Gondor] companions valiant (Valiant Man of the West (V) ;) ) and more that reference 'Men' without culture like some of the original fellowship cards used to do, so this creeping into [Rohan] territory won't be entirely out of place. And I reckon Boromir of all people deserves valiant. And a lot of keywords might be found in odd places, I'm feeling...
Now, on the whole replacing Frodo thing...I agree with lem0n. I think it MIGHT be okay to have one or MAYBE two cards that allow it, but not a companion. That's just TOO good. Leave Answering the Cries and I guess Asfaloth too, but change this Borormir to exclude the RB. Frodo is the RB that probably needs the MOST protecting, after all, and having a companion that can do it at any time without any possessions or conditions or anything that unlock it is just too powerful. The others are better balanced simply because you either have to clog your hand with it (AtC) or play it on less powerful companions (Asfaloth). And done!
That's my two cents.
I'd do just one or the other (overwhelm OR limiting wounds), leave the strength, and allow Frodo to take it. Consider that a compromise to changing Lord of Gondor. ;)The reason he has both is that they're not abilities that are likely to be useful for the same characters. On a Hobbit, I'd prefer the overwhelming text, but on Legolas or Gimli I'd prefer the wound prevention. And I also like exempting Frodo for flavour reasons.
I think I'd like it a lot better if it somehow removed twilight, like the original. Balanced and all, sure, and the knight thing is a nice touch, but...meh. I'd like twilight removal of some sort better.Problem is that fellowship twilight removing on companions gets OP pretty quick. I'll sure think on it, though.

You could make it non-unique, I think. It's not an "amazing" hand weapon. And if it can already be borne by companions other than Aragorn, why not?Sorry, but I cannot! Think of it as though I'm producing a sheet of paper which covers the bottom half of the card up to the type/sub-type bar, replacing type, gametext, lore, attributes and rarity. Obviously, my bit of paper can't extend to cover the title of the card, and so I can't change its uniqueness.
They all seem fine, though I still don't understand your fascination with making [Gondor] Men valiant. For some companions, it makes sense, and I GUESS I can see it being done for Boromir (who clearly had a connection to the Rohirrim). But now for ANY Man? Not a big fan.Hardly a fascination... Honestly, I think I like the original better. If there was any card I'd prefer to be more like the original, it'd be this. Maybe change the strength bonus to reference Orcs and Uruk-hai?Isn't the original on the X-list? Certainly it could be Orc or Uruk-hai, but Men are historically very good at beating down on other Men, which is why I chose it.
Can we have a cloak, too?I actually forgot about that cloak, but it is rather different. But okay, I'll add it to the original, even though it only makes real sense when you consider my Elven Cloak (V) entry for my contest (which you can check out in the round-winner's thread).

1 V 98
Not a fan of your winning Elven Cloak, personally...sorry! Not a fan of this either, but that's probably just me, so leave it up to other reviewers.I'll explain myself: there were loads of different armours and cloaks in the early days, and they were all useless and unimaginative (observe Armor, Coat of Mail, Elven Cloak, Heavy Chain, Great Shield, Footman's Armor, Riding Armor) and were never used. Decipher only designed some decent armours really when they got to T & D with the Armor of the White City and Shield of the White Tree. So my goal here was to make a mechanic to replace those armours with something good and decent. And so I hit upon a response event which was easily recyclable.

I guess you can't really think of these virtual cards as replacements for the old, but as additions. Think of them as forming an entirely new block of cards. With that, you can judge them in their own right rather than as against the originals.I was thinking about that, and I was judging that as a real set, it would have to work simultaneously in 2 ways:
(0) Pursuit Just Behind (V) [Gondor]
Condition • Support Area
Str: -2
Sit: +2
Skirmish: Exert a [Gondor] companion to transfer this condition to a minion he or she is skirmishing.
”’We must do something to delay the enemy first. We will make them fear the Chamber of Mazarbul!’”
1 V 111
[1] Natural Cover (V) [Gondor]
Event • Archery
Stealth.
Spot a [Gondor] Man to choose one: make the minion archery total -3; or make a minion lose all attribute bonuses until the regroup phase.
2 V 35
(0) Flee In Terror (V) [Gondor]
Event • Regroup
Spot a [Gondor] Man that is not exhausted to discard a minion or liberate a site.
”Aragorn smote to the ground the captain that stood in his path, and the rest fled in terror of his wrath.”
2 V 33
2 V 33
Now some miscellaneous possessions, I think:
[1] Great Shield (V) [Gondor]
Possession • Shield
Bearer must be a Man.
The minion archery total is -1.
Each minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1 for each keyword in its gametext.
1 V 107
[1] Armor (V) [Gondor]
Possession • Armor
Bearer must be a Man.
While skirmishing more than one minion, bearer is strength +2.
Response: If a minion bearer is skirmishing is about to use a special ability, exert bearer or discard this possession to prevent that.
”Then Elendil the Tall and his mighty sons, Isildur and Anárion, became great lords; and the North-realm they made in Arnor and the South-realm in Gondor…
1 V 92
(0) Flaming Brand (V) [Gondor]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Str: +1
Bearer must be a Man.
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, you may exert a minion (or wound a fierce minion).
”… a glimpse of Strider leaping out of the shadows with a flaming brand of wood…”
2 V 32
Never been a big fan of shields modifying strength, but I guess this works. LOVE what this does to Horror of Harad. :twisted:I can tell you why I did it. Shields are not really for protection; they're actually weapons using what your opponent has against him.
Ew. I mean, the exerting/wounding is nice, but this would be MUCH better if it could be borne with another weapon, like the original, or at least had more boosts against [Wraith] minions (ALSO like the original). The first is changed, and it does work nicely against Nazgûl because they're fierce. Also, I don't want to make it too much like the original given the fact that it's on the X-list!
Not sure why Flaming Brand works for Knights. Rangers I understand, Valiant I can perhaps accept, but I can't see knights wielding flaming brands to any great effect...
Not sure why Flaming Brand works for Knights. Rangers I understand, Valiant I can perhaps accept, but I can't see knights wielding flaming brands to any great effect...I was just representing the most skilled of Men, and knights always get left out of everything so I didn't want to leave them out! But I have anyway...
Does [Gondor] remove twilight in the skirmish phase? Don't see a major problem with it, it just seems a bit odd.Not especially, but they do like to prevent Shadow players from using skirmish events!
(0) Strength of Kings (V) [Gondor]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Each time a [Gondor] companion wins a skirmish, you may exert that companion to add a [Gondor] token here. Then if that companion is Aragorn, Isildur or Elendil, you may heal him.
Skirmish: Remove a token from here to remove [2].
”’Believe not that in the land of Gondor the úmenor is spent, nor all its pride and dignity forgotten.’”
1 V 115
Good. Not brilliant but nifty.
(0) Sentinels of Númenor (V) [Gondor]
Condition • Support Area
When you play this condition, add a [Gondor] token here.
Each time a minion is played, you may remove a token from here to draw a card.
”… they still preserved through the suns and rains of forgotten years the mighty likenesses in which they had been hewn.”
2 V 37
OP. Reinforcing wasnt hard for gondor before anyway in fact they were ace at it.
[1] Citadel of Minas Tirith (V) [Gondor]
Condition • Support Area
Fortification.
Fellowship: Play a [Gondor] condition to your support area to add a [Gondor] token here.
Regroup: Remove 2 tokens from here to transfer a fortification from a minion to your support area.
Regroup: Remove 3 tokens from here to discard a minion.
”’One day our paths will lead us there, and the Tower guards will take up the call - the Lords of Gondor have returned.’”
3 V 40
Sound.
(0) Banner of the White Tree (V) [Gondor]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Bearer must be a [Gondor] Man.
Skirmish: Remove a [Gondor] token to make bearer strength +1.
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, you may reinforce a [Gondor] token.
”’Many Elves and mighty Men, and many of their friends, had perished in the war.’”
3 V 39
Cool.
OP. Reinforcing wasnt hard for gondor before anyway in fact they were ace at it.Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean here. The text of Sentinels of Numenor (V) only adds 1 token.
Only complaint is you should stay true to Still Sharp and spot the shards of narsil otherwise it makes no sense.
[1] • The Shards of Narsil (V) [Gondor]
Artifact • Support Area
To play, spot 4 [Gondor] cards in your discard pile.
Each time the fellowship moves, you may exert a [Gondor] Man to reinforce a [Gondor] token.
Fellowship: Remove 3 [Gondor] tokens to place a [Gondor] card from your discard pile on top of your draw deck.
”’… Narsil was broken and its light extinguished, and it had not yet been forged again.’”
3 V 44
(0) Still Sharp (V) [Gondor]
Event • Fellowship
Spot a [Gondor] Man to choose one: place a [Gondor] card from your discard pile on top of your draw deck; or take a [Gondor] artifact into hand from your draw deck.
”’The shards of Narsil… the blade that cut the Ring from Sauron’s hand.’”
3 V 46
Are you suggesting all cards should require no effort to play and making a "couple of card" tactical focus is pointless? Doesnt that mean you want all cards to be splashable and easy to play? No; he didn't say that cards should never require to spot other cards, he said that cards that reference specific card titles restrict deck-building.
I understand with cards such as weight of legacy etc... But thats because you dont know what youre facing. Here you know youre playing the shards and it isnt too much to use that to get a card or 2 out.
(0) Gondor Bowmen (V) [Gondor]
Follower
Aid - [3].
Bearer must be a [Gondor] Man.
Archery: Exert bearer twice to add +2 to the fellowship archery total. Transfer this follower to your support area.
3 V 41
(0) Some Who Resisted (V) [Gondor]
Follower
Str: +1
Aid - remove a [Gondor] token.
Respone: If bearer is about to take a wound in a skirmish, transfer this follower to your support area and add [2] to prevent that wound.
”’In the South the realm of Gondor long endured; and for a while its splendour grew…’”
3 V 45
[2] Blood of Númenor (V) [Gondor]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Skirmish: Remove a [Gondor] card in your discard pile from the game to make an unique [Gondor] companion strength +1.
Regroup: Remove this condition from the game to remove [4].
”’I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you - I will not let the White City fall…’”
2 V 31
Good idea, terrible card title for a follower. I'd use Sentinels of Númenor instead. I know you already used it, but its text could be slapped on a card called "Some Who Resisted" easily enough.Except that the Sentinels are referring to the big statues, which don't make great followers! :hey:
Yeah yeah, but I'd still rather that title be used and the context be changed than use the title "Some Who Resisted" as a follower. :-X That's like having "Some Who Ride Ponies" as a [Rohan] follower. :PMy problem is that I've also got to take into account pictures, and a big statue of Isildur on a follower card doesn't look great! At least Some Who Resisted has some people in the background! 8-)

Again i disagree, it doesnt restrict deck building it focuses it. They go into a specific deck and are great because although they need special requirements theyre great once theyre out. Not every card should be designed to go in every deck.
(0) Gondor Bowmen (V) [Gondor]
Follower
Aid - [3].
Bearer must be a [Gondor] Man.
Archery: Exert bearer twice to add +2 to the fellowship archery total. Transfer this follower to your support area.

LOL kudos for the clever naming/card type idea, but i am with Dain it is a bit daft even if its interesting. Need an s in response. Dont need the add 2 bit its fine anyway.
2 V 31
The skirmish ability seems very good, maybe the card should require to play exert a gondor man.
[1] • The Choice of Lúthien (V) [Gondor]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Response: If a Man is about to be killed in a skirmish, remove an Elf from the game to prevent that and cancel the skirmish (and remove all wounds from that Man if he is Aragorn). Then remove this condition from the game.
”’But she chose mortality, and to die from the world so that she might follow him; and it is sung that they met again beyond the Sundering Seas…’”
1 V 100
Erm ok, bit difficult to balance that without playtesting.
[1] Beren and Lúthien (V) [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Maneuver: Remove an [Elven] card in your discard pile from the game to heal Arwen or Aragorn.
Skirmish: Remove a [Gondor] card in your discard pile from the game to make a minion skirmishing Arwen or Aragorn strength -2.
At the start of the regroup phase, exert Arwen and Aragorn, or remove this condition from the game.
”’Tinúviel! Tinúviel! / He called her by her elvish name; / And there she halted listening.’”
3 V 9
IMHO its is OP. This make them both virtually indestructible tanks.
(0) Arwen’s Fate (V) [Gondor]
Event • Maneuver
Tale.
Spot Aragorn and Arwen to choose your [Gondor] or [Elven] card which has been removed from the game and shuffle it into your draw deck. Then remove this event from the game.
1 V 93
I dont like D's idea of removing stuff from the game anyway, and as i have pointed out before if theyre removed from the game then that it theyre gone. Shouldnt mess with them, spot them or use them as they are not in the game anymore. Or else its just another discard pile to arse about with.
as i have pointed out before if theyre removed from the game then that it theyre gone. Shouldnt mess with them, spot them or use them as they are not in the game anymore. Or else its just another discard pile to arse about with. This is the only way of doing it; only works with Arwen and Aragorn and the event is removed immediately afterwards so the maximum you could do it is only ever 4 times.

Uruk-hai are strength +1 for each site you control (limit +3).
Each time an Uruk-hai wins a skirmish you may heal Saruman.
Skirmish: Exert Saruman twice to take control of a site.
"Hunt them down. Do not stop until they are found. You do not know pain, you do not know fear. You will taste man-flesh."
3 V 69
Needs to be phrased wounds cannot be assigned to saruman during the archery phase or you can assing all the wounds to him but he takes none of them as they are effectively prevented. Apart from that my review stands as last time i voted him 1st place. Cool!
[4] • Saruman, Keeper of Isengard (V) [Isengard]
Minion • Wizard
Str: 8

Saruman may not take wounds during the archery phase and may not be assigned to a skirmish.
When you play Saruman, you may play an [Isengard] condition from your discard pile.
Regroup: Spot another [Isengard] minion to return Saruman to your hand.
3 V 68
Useless really, not worth having, you might as well make him able to skirmish to make him less UP.
[2] Saruman’s Power (V) [Isengard]
Event • Shadow
Spell.
Spot Saruman (or exert an [Isengard] minion) to search through your draw deck for an [Isengard] event or [Isengard] condition and place it in your hand.
1 V 136
You dont need the to search bit. You can just "take into hand" one of those cards.
(0) Saruman’s Reach (V) [Isengard]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot Saruman (or 3 [Isengard], [Dunland] or [Men] minions).
Saruman may be spotted.
Response: If your Shadow card is about to exert Saruman as a cost, discard this condition to pay that cost instead.
1 V 137
The action needs to be rephrased like strength of spirit; "to place no token for that exertion". Not sure if i like the spotting bit though. See what others say.
The action needs to be rephrased like strength of spirit; "to place no token for that exertion". Not sure if i like the spotting bit though. See what others say.[/b]No, the point is that you can discard the condition to exert Saruman without Saruman being there!
Now for some new cards:

Minion • Wizard
Str: 8
Vit: 4
Sit: 4
Saruman may not take wounds during the archery phase and may not be assigned to a skirmish.
When you play Saruman, you may play an [Isengard] condition from your discard pile.
Regroup: Spot another [Isengard] minion to return Saruman to your hand.
3 V 68
I respectfully disagree with Lem0n here. This card looks brilliant to me. For 4 twilight, you get a condition back and you will always be able to spot/exert saruman. I can think of several decks that would love this card, especially a Weather deck. Having said that, I think that the regroup ability should spot an Uruk-Hai - make it useful with [Uruk] culture, and fits in with old school [Isengard] cards.
And here is also another funky trick which you can use Saruman for:
[2] Saruman’s Power (V) [Isengard]
Event • Shadow
Spell.
Spot Saruman (or exert an [Isengard] minion) to take into hand an [Isengard] event or [Isengard] condition from your draw deck.
1 V 136
Another really great card for a weather deck. The cost of [2] is obviously a bit high but then shadow cultures rarely get such good tutoring.
1 V 137
Apart from the rather bizarre spotting requirements (why not [Uruk] culture? why not 3 minions?) I'm not really sure what to say about this card. Perhaps with Keeper of Isengard in the set, this isn't really necessary - and No Ordinary Storm (v) fetches Saruman as well. This card seems a bit like overkill. To be honest, I think I would prefer it if Saruman's Reach was an anti-posession/condition card, capturing the spirit of the picture, in which Saruman uses his power to steal Gandalf's staff. Also, shouldn't it be a spell?

Having said that, I think that the regroup ability should spot an Uruk-Hai - make it useful with [Uruk] culture, and fits in with old school [Isengard] cards.Actually, you'll see that there are ways to make this card work in an [Uruk] deck as well. :hey:
Apart from the rather bizarre spotting requirements (why not [Uruk] culture? why not 3 minions?)Ah yes, I forgot about [Uruk] culture.... The reason it's those cultures is because Saruman appears in each of them.

Once I've posted lots more [Isengard] cards, I'll probably come back to this one.

1 V 133
EDIT: Gargh! You posted before I'd even finished commenting! Though I like the idea of making them lose their original culture, though that might get a bit messy sometimes.
Ypur Saruman's Ambition is creative, looks like lots of fun, and would lead to all sorts of decks being possible that weren't possible before. One might say that my Saruman's Ambition is quite ambitious! ;)
Does it also lead to broken combos? Possibly. It works very well with your Keeper of Isengard, though the requirement for always having Saruman around might be enough to prevent too broken combos. In the end though, I'm not sure if we can see just by looking at it that it's broken. Only playtesting would really reveal it...

3 V 75
Meh, pretty staple ok guy.
About these 2 culture minions, treat the culture symbol as a keyword (which is why if I refer to them on cards, I'll call them "culture keywords"). Just like a minion with the "fierce" keyword is referred to as a "fierce minion", a minion with the "[Uruk]" keyword is referred to as an "[Uruk] minion". It is quite possible that some of the minions will have a culture keyword conditionally as you were suggesting, DI, but some of them will also have it straight.

1 V 148
Question: if [Uruk] would indeed by a so-called "culture keyword", wouldn't it be simply "...Lurtz gains [Uruk]"?I had exactly the same thought, but I decided that the wording I went with was cleaner and clearer.
I'm not sure that it matters about wording. I think that having a symbol in the text is fairly clear. I could go either way on the "gains [X] culture" or "gains [X]". Surely it can have different wording without affecting gameplay. They could certainly be defined as the same thing, but it might add confusion to a card such as Saruman's Ambition (V) above about what constitutes a "culture keyword" and what does not.

A note I just thought of...old-school [Isengard] trackers were of a rare breed: they were fierce instead of damage +1. You may want to consider doing that with these guys as well. You're right, the Towers trackers were all fierce, but the few fellowship trackers (there might have been only 1, I can't remember) was damage +1 and I've so far been completely avoiding fierce for uruks instead trying to make their damage bonuses matter. You never know though, I may come back to this good point you've made! 8-)

Very nice. I could see these guys being useful with a couple certain old [Isengard] Orc cards. I can't wait to see some *new* high(er) costing events/conditions.Well, the original Hollowing of Isengard looks very nasty with toiling capabilities. I've also made an awful lot of conditions and some high cost events which will appear in the near future. My main worry with the Orcs so far is that it may all be a bit combo-heavy (which is the reason for Servants to Saruman (V) above).

Seems fine to me. Obviously meant to work with your new toil stuff, but I think it's reasonably balanced. Not just that: remember that almost all the [Isengard] Orcs exert for stuff during the Shadow phase.

Assignment: Assign an Uruk-hai to skirmish this companion. Those characters may not take wounds or be overwhelmed until the regroup phase.
Regroup: Exert this companion twice to discard this condition. Only the Free Peoples player may use this ability.

Changed the above cards according to excellent suggestions.
[1] Greed (V) [Isengard]
Condition
Res: -1
To play, spot an [Isengard] minion.
Bearer must be a companion (except the Ring-bearer). Limit 1 per bearer.
Each time bearer is assigned to a skirmish, the Free Peoples player must choose either to exert bearer, or exert 2 other companions and discard this condition.

Bearer must be a companion (except the Ring-bearer). Limit 1 per bearer.
Each time bearer uses a special ability, the Free Peoples player must choose to exert him or her or add [2].

[1] Abandoning Reason For Madness (V) [Isengard]
Condition
Res: -2
To play, exert an [Isengard] minion (or spot Saruman).
Bearer must be a companion (except the Ring-bearer). Limit 1 per bearer.
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, the Free Peoples player must place 3 cards from their hand beneath their draw deck or heal each [Isengard] minion.
”’And why not, Gandalf?… Why not? The Ruling Ring? If we could command that, then the power would pass to us.’”
3 V 49
I'm loving the new twists on the old titles. The only card I'm struggling with is Abandoning Reason for Madness. What does the text have to do with the title?I suppose it turns an ordinary action into something quite nasty which the Shadow can take advantage of... :suspect:
My only additional comment is that with the one action on Alive and Unspoiled (V) being a fellowship one now, you can drop the entire line "only the Free Peoples player may use this ability". I think.I wasn't sure (because it's a Shadow card) so I figured I might as well leave it crystal clear.
[2] Alive and Unspoiled (V) [Isengard]
Condition
Search. To play, spot an [Isengard] minion.
Bearer must be a companion (except the Ring-bearer).
Assignment: Assign an Uruk-hai to skirmish this companion. Those characters may not take wounds or be overwhelmed until the regroup phase.
Fellowship: Exert this companion to discard this condition. Only the Free Peoples player may use this ability.
”’Bring them to me… Kill the others…’”
1 V 120
I kinda understand...so you would have tokens running around acting like minions?Currently only 1 token. And they're not just 'acting like minions', they are minions.
[2] • Worry (V) [Isengard]
Condition
To play, exert 2 [Isengard] minions.
Bearer must be the Ring-bearer.
Each time bearer is assigned to a skirmish, the Free Peoples player must either exert him or her twice or exert each other companion with resistance 4 or less.
”’One by one, regardless of their strength to good or evil... they fell.’”
1 V 162
actually dark horseman wouldn't change that as the freeps can still assign them to frodo, unless they leave him unassigned so I guess it does work ;)Quote from: Thranduil[2] • Worry (V) [Isengard]

Perhaps limit it to "each time the Free Peoples player assigns bearer to a skirmish...". Otherwise this seems a little unfair with minions like Swarthy Sneering Fellow, Agent of Saruman, Dark Horseman, and others like them.

This event’s twilight cost is -1 for each [Isengard] minion assigned to a skirmish.
Assign a tracker to a companion (except the Ring-bearer); that companion loses all gametext keywords and cannot gain gametext keywords until the regroup phase. The Free Peoples player may make that tracker fierce until the regroup phase to prevent this.
”’Do not stop until they are found!’”
1 V 126
It's alright, but not fantastic. Fierce doesn't seem like it's a good downside, because the point of these self assigning cards is probably to pick off weaker companions, right? Unless of course you can weaken a big guy a lot. Unless a lot of your other self-assigning trackers are fierce (which they're probably not or the get-out of this event is too easy to choose) they could just let the minion go to a strong guy in the fierce skirmish that was tied up when you tried to assign with this card. Or just kill him first skirmish after he becomes fierce.Okay, fair enough. I was trying to avoid straight exertions because I had other [Isengard] cards that did that, but now those cards have changed so I will change this one. :gp:
I'd change it to a strength bonus (so it's harder to assign him even if he goes where they want) or exerting the companion.
Sorry I haven't updated this thread in quite a while - I've been rather busy at various points.fine by me...
It occurred to me that while I was thinking about weather cards, there were a few holes to be filled in the [Isengard] culture and to this end are some cards to fit in with the evil assignment theme!

Stealth.
If a special ability on a companion is used, exert an [Isengard] minion to cancel its effects.
At the start of the regroup phase, you may exert an [Isengard] minion to take this card into hand from your discard pile.
1 V 161
I've added a slightly weird and off-beat get-out clause on the Assassin. Does it work? Is it too powerful?
I really like it. It's something that has never been done before on a Shadow card and it could work. Dain's suggestion might confuse the issue however. What if there are mixed cultures? Who decides the order if FP do most, but Shadow player does the Isengard ones? You could make it "while you cannot spot a non-[Isengard] minion" but this might be over complicated.
And here are some miscellaneous cards.
[2] Parry (V) [Isengard]

Event • Skirmish
Exert an Uruk-hai to exert a companion skirmishing that Uruk-hai.
1 V 159
If damage bonuses are a theme of the Uruks, as I seem to recall they are, couldn't this make an Uruk damage +1? How about exert and Uruk-hai to make him damage +1?

1 V 161
Stealth here is a bit odd, but actually makes sense given the title. My inclination is to remove the second part of the text and just have it as a special ability cancelling card. An alternative is to allow it to cancel events as well.

Stealth is not a Shadow keyword...search would be better. Seems fine other than that.A word on this. One of the things I've been doing is taking keywords and putting them in different places. I've made Free Peoples search cards and always intended Shadow stealth. It just seemed that stealth made a lot more sense than search on a card with that title.

[2] Spies of Saruman (V) [Isengard]

”’… they are crebain out of Fangorn or Dunland. I do not know what they are about…’”
1 V 140
But I was sure I'd see that card title used as a follower. :PYou laugh, but I nearly made it into a minion! :hey:
Also, wouldn't this be a perfect candidate for a dual-culture [Isengard] / [Uruk] card?A fine point! I hadn't thought of that. :gp: I've now changed it, though if anyone has a better suggestion for the [Isengard] part, I'll be glad to hear it - my mind's a bit blank at the moment.

1 V 140
I think this should be "Discard this condition to reveal a player's hand. Choose 2 of these cards. Place 1 on top of and the other beneath their owner's draw deck." Just to avoid possible complications over 'examine' and 'revealed'.
How about if bearer is an [Isengard] minion, each time he takes a wound, draw a card?Unfortunately I want it to stack with the [Uruk] ability.
(0) No Business of Ours (V) [Isengard]

While in region 2, this minion cannot take wounds.

2 V 41
Very, very odd. I think it's a little too evil to turn followers like Pallando, Deagol, Dinendal MA (good lord...this could make Frenzy of Arrows actually work again! :-X), Rohan Stable Master, Hobbiton Brewer (and the list goes on) into FP saboteurs. Remove the text of those followers (thereby going with stat boosters alone), and I think it's an easier pill to swallow.I had a feeling there might be something which would make this broken; Frenzy of Arrows and Dinendal is a good point - not that anyone would make a deck using Frenzy of Arrows and [Isengard]/[Orc] Orcs just in the hope you're opponent was using Dinendal. I'll just see what others think, but I'm more than willing to concede on this.
3 more mostly miscellaneous cards for now. The first 2 are slightly off-beat follower hate. The second is a seriously off-beat minion.fine

3 V 63
Not bad, but that strength boost will not provide much of a boost (+2 at most with all followers except the [3]-cost Celebring). Perhaps make it a minimum of a +1 boost--or +1 in addition to the follower's twilight cost--to make it a little nastier.Well there are also [4] cost followers in the set like Elrond, Gandalf and Aragorn, and more [3] cost followers like Galadriel and Boromir. Do you think it still needs more?
[5] Troop of Uruk-hai (V) [Isengard]

Can't decide if he's too good or not. Could be strength 13ish, at cost 2-3. Or could be str 9, cost 5. Perhaps the fact that he's weak early game makes him balanced.
[2] Hate and Anger (V) [Isengard]
Event • Skirmish
Choose one: exert an [Isengard] Orc to make an Uruk-hai strength +3 and fierce until the regroup phase; or exert an Uruk-hai to make an [Isengard] Orc strength +3 and damage +1.
3 V 53
How about you get rid of the [Isengard] culture entirely? Make it exert both characters to choose one. And surely you do need the 'until the regroup phase' bit.

Event • Shadow
Exert your [Isengard] minion to make each other player discard one of their conditions.
”’And if we fail, what then? What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?’”
3 V 63
Isn't this a case of 'ALL of you must do this'? My inclination is that it could simply spot the minion and make all players discard a condition, ie you as well.
[3] Caradhras Has Not Forgiven Us (V) [Isengard]
Event • Maneuver
Spell. Weather.
Spot Saruman to return a companion and all cards borne by that companion to the Free Peoples player's hand.

Like the idea but this card is way too powerful. Imagine splashing this card into a Dunlending deck with Rabble Rouser. Perhaps you should have to be unable to spot another minion (other than Saruman of course).

Regroup: Discard this condition and return Saruman (or Saruman's Reach if you can spot no minions) to your hand to make the move limit -1. The Free Peoples player may add a burden to prevent this.
1 V 124
Works.
I guess my only problem with this stuff is that it seems like NPE. Effectively nullifying all your opponents' FP cards, by not ever giving them something to fight, seems really boring for both of you. I think I would prefer this strategy if it involved more minions, or at least some kind of fighting, or perhaps if the cards were designed to work as splashes in other decks rather than as part of a unified strategy. Does that make any sense?
I've made some changes. But now it's back onto those weather cards. This will be an entirely new strategy and an entirely new approach to Shadow sides. The first thing to get your head around is that it need feature only a single minion: Saruman. Obviously, this minion cannot be assigned to skirmishes or take wounds during the archery phase... :suspect:fine
So I guess the obvious question is: how do you win if you have a deck which can't skirmish? ??? The answer is, more or less: you don't. The purpose of a weather deck is to screw over your opponent's Free Peoples side so much that they have no Shadow cards to play against your running fellowship! So let's see some examples, and I hope that the strategy will work. It's an experiment, so let's see what you think about this.
