Title: Exhaust = Exert?
Post by: OneFathom on June 22, 2008, 04:33:19 PM
If I were to exhaust a minion with Smeagol, Always Helps, for example, is that minion exerting to do that?  The reason I ask is because I want to know if Unheeded works with that particular card.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

The definition of exhaust is to exert as many times as possible. So yes, it is exerting.

As long as you have enough companions for the threats, you could feasibly do it multiple times! :o
Have Smeagol take down Shelob. Awesome. :D

Unheeded + Smeagol, AH + NFFatRoD + Any fierce minion and one other =  ;D

Yeah, NfFatRoD was my first thought, too. There's your two threats!

Man...someone should build a deck around this. :D

[Shire] cards are pretty easy to get back from discard, aren't they? At least, I know in the early days you could use Retired Adventurer + Frodo, OBH, and Elrond, LoR. What about in the newest sets?

Daddy Twofoot is probably the main one. Birthday Present if NFFatRoD is the only [Shire] event, and Bilbo, Melancholy Hobbit if he skirmishes.

Or how about Sting, Elven Long Knife to remove threats?

Don't Look at Them and Where Shall We Go also combo great with Smeagol, AH.

I think the Bilbo/Elrond/Frodo combo above would probably work best, since you can do it twice per turn. Maybe an idea for Expanded? Too bad Elrond's on the Expanded R-list...

Don't Look at Them and Where Shall We Go also combo great with Smeagol, AH.

Not quite as well as Unheeded, though, since they are Skirmish events and not responses. You could only do it for one minion.

well NFFatRoD os skirmish as well . Smeagol exhausts a minion durind the assignment phase so even you you were thinking of clearing several minions with a small fellowship it still won't work becuase smeagol exhaust for the assignment phase (he adds the threats then), kills with unheeded and the threat remain until the skirmish phase and by then smeagol's text can't be used. If you want a way to keep those threats peeled for next tirn I would go with sting, elven long knife and in expanded run that Frodo that lets you exert smeagol to heal him (son of drogo I believe).

Ah, good point. Well, with a fellowship of 4 you could feasibly do it twice, then peel off the threats for next turn with NFFatRod. Sting ELK is a good combo too.

For [Shire] event recurssion, don't forget Fireworks. Yes, it requires Gandalf, but that might be okay. Especially if you consider that would then open up the ultimate threat removal in Citadel to Gate. :hey:

Ah, there you go. Fireworks can bring itself back, Citadel to Gate can heal all [Shire] companions. Seems like this is a good Expanded deck waiting to happen.

but citadel is a lot of twilight....

Yes, yes it is. If you're able to basically kill any large minion that hit the table as a result, though, then it's not as big a deal as it might normally be.

no but when you're relying on Smeagol doing his tricks, you shouldn't generate too much twilight, cause others would suffer more loss

Ah, there you go. Fireworks can bring itself back...
If I understood you right, Fireworks can't bring back the same copy played, since at the time the effects are performed that particular copy is still in the void.

But in any case, Fireworks is still too slow for my liking. I'd rather have NFFatRoD hanging around in my discard pile than shuffled into my draw deck to be drawn who-knows-when.

Yeah, Daddy Twofoot and Melancholy Hobbit are probably the best ways to pull back NfFatRoD, but shuffling two at once back into your deck with Fireworks ain't bad, either. Just a thought.

Naw, I was thinking a once you have Fireworks in your discard you can bring it back. But then at second glance, I see that you could not bring back 1 Fireworks and 1 NFFatRoD, which is what I was thinking. You'd have to have a [Gandalf] + [Shire] deck to make it useful for bringing back [Gandalf] events.

OK, now that this idea has been beaten to the ground, someone ought to go out and make a deck! :D

Ah, gotcha. That thought did cross my mind, but then I thought maybe you meant to pull back two Fireworks, and then use one or both to pull back NFFatRoD, or maybe one to pull back another two Fireworks, or... and then pretty soon my head was swimming, and this heat wave wasn't helping matters. *LOL*

But one thing is certain: I like NOLINKfireworks. Yup.
