Title: Stacking Uruk-hai
Post by: NappyKorn on January 25, 2012, 04:51:43 PM
Was looking for some pointers as I rarely if ever play(ed) TT block. I was looking to expanded on the format I play on gccg and wanted to give TT block a try (though I enjoy TS). Not sure if this is a viable deck or not but seemed like it could be annoying at the least and I didn't see an uruk-hai deck like this posted here yet (mostly archery and berserkers). Here is the deck list and as always opinions are more then welcome.

Shadow (33)
2x *Down to the Last Child(4U148)
3x Attack on Helm's Deep(4C137)
1x Burning of Westfold(4R144)
2x Pillage of Rohan(4R167)
2x Race Across the Mark(4R168)
2x We Are The Fighting Uruk-hai(4C210)
2x Advance Uruk Patrol(4U136)
2x Uruk Assault Band(4R179)
4x Uruk Besieger(4C180)
4x Uruk Trooper(4R199)
4x Uruk Veteran(4U201)
4x Uruk-hai Horde(4R203)
1x Uruk Vanguard(4R200)

Idea is to control site with Attack on Helms Deep and Down to the Last Child. Can play cheaper uruk-hai for the tokens and use Race Across the Mark to get them to the regroup phase to grab sites or help the stackers stack for a later swarm. With Uruk-hai stacked on sites you prevent the oponent from using Special Abilities and event with Pillage of Rohan and you can toss their conditions with Burning of Westfold. Bascially stack for a late swarm and prevent their ring-bearer from getting any help from events or special abilities . Other Uruk-hai get stronger the more sites you control and with Uruk Camp being your site 2 (if you get stuck going 2nd) you can control a battleground sooner than later which helps some of your uruk-hai become hard to deal with.

Let me know what you think and if you have any fellowship sides that would work well with this shadow.

I'd add at least one more down to the last child, otherwise looks fun. Uruk Vanguard at site 5 is killer too, and could get you another couple tokens on down to the last child

deck is only 32/32 so I can probably squeeze in an extra Down to the Last Child without having to drop something. Would you recommend just 1 Uruk Vanguard or would you go with 2?

Thanks for the comment/advice,

And on that note, Uruk Regular

@ Not a Zombie:
For some reason I thought Uruk Regular was x-listed, but apparently not.

@Ket:
Yeah I wasnt sure which would be better but since I want to swarm more than beatdown it makes more sense to use the twilight reducing version.

I will adjust the deck according when I have more time and thanks again for the advice. Any idea on a fellowship for this? I'm only familiar with the duantless hunter crap in TT and ranger seem to bore me too much to play them.

Well just to avoid using Dauntless Hunter as the Free Peoples I paired it with a form of [gondor] Rangers. Here the the deck list. It probably has room for improvement, but I am not a big fan of [gondor] and not a huge TTT format player so here is what I came up with. ANy comments are welcomed of course.

Fellowship (33)
1x *Damrod, Ranger of Ithilien(4U114)
1x *Faramir, Captain of Gondor(4R116)
1x *Mablung, Soldier of Gondor(4U127)
2x Gondorian Ranger(4C122)
3x Ranger of Ithilien(4C130)
2x *Cliffs of Emyn Muil(4R299)
1x *Henneth Annun(4R125)
2x *Ithilien Trap(4U126)
3x Ancient Roads(6R49)
3x War and Valor(4C135)
1x *Faramir's Bow(4R118)
1x *Faramir's Cloak(4R119)
1x *Sting, Baggins Heirloom(5R116)
3x Banner of Westernesse(6U51)
4x Ranger's Bow(4C131)
1x Sam's Pack(4R317)
3x Sword of Gondor(4C134)

Comments on the shadow in the original post are wanted as well. Any ideas for a better Free Peoples for the shadow are wanted/needed as well since I'm not exactly familiar with playing rangers as the deck list might give away .

Deck works great. Played it 3 times (twice against rohan once against rangers). It set up fast in the rohan games and I got fast wins (well after I got some sites they forfeit because they knew what was coming), but against the rangers I just didnt get draws fast enough before they got set up. Had I got an early site and a uruk-hai stacked I woulda easily tossed all their conditions and made their bows and mablung useless with Pillage of Rohan. I think if I got a better early draw before they got setup in region 1 I would stood a better chance, But I just went 2nd kept up everytime they doubled but just got outrun.

Still looking for a more fun FP than rangers if anything comes to mind, but if no ideas I will stick with the Rangers til the bore me so bad I quit playing the game, LOL.

Thanks,

NK

3 hunters with Hobbits! Even though Lockbearer is pretty terrible. Dauntless Hunter/Wingfoot deck?

edit: lol didn't see you wanting to avoid Dauntless Hunter.

Coupled with Lockbearer? And only ONE hobbit? That'd be super duper fun.

We Are the Fighting Uruk Hai works okay, but Ferocity has always been the better choice for me.  Many a time have I had one of the former in my hand, only to spend all of my twilight on minions and be unable to play it a key situation.  Granted, Ferocity does not give you the damage bonus, but the 0 twilight make up for that.

I found this deck while looking for a towers block deck to copy because I ma only familiar with fellowship block and still have lots to learn there. I was adding decks for other formats in case I can't get a Fellowship block game. What sites would it use? Who starts besides Faramir?
