Title: Ent
Post by: steelshaperjones on January 14, 2014, 07:38:53 AM
I am just now bringing this game back. I found a bunch of my old cards. Does anyone have a good ent list I could start from for movie block? a lot of those cards seem pretty strong.

Here is my favorite Gandalf/Ents list.  It is very competitive and has answers for every shadow out there (and can be tweaked as needed depending on what is popular).

Frodo, Resolute Hobbit
The One Ring, Such A Weight To Carry

Gandalf, Leader of Men
Forest Guardian

Treebeard, Keeper of the Watchwood
Ent Horde
Lindenroot
Skinbark, Fladrif
Radagast, the Brown
Sam, Son of Hamfast
Gandalf's Staff
Narya
Enraged x2
Saved from the Fire x4
Servant of the Secret Fire x4
Roll of Thunder x2
Grown Suddenly Tall x2
Out of the High Airs x2
Terrible and Evil
Have Patience
Barliman Butterbur, Prancing Pony Proprietor
Sting, Bane of the Eight Legs
The Tale of the Great Ring

Use Saved From The Fire to set Forest Guardian on fire (hopefully at site 1) and get what you need.  Normally you pull Lindenroot, Skinbark, and Treebeard with your first saved, but if you have one of them in hand you can get Ent Horde or Gandalf's Staff.  Next you may or may not set Lindenroot on fire to get other key cards (GST against conditions, Roll against possessions, Narya against burdens, Have Patience against heavy wounding, etc).  A great play at site 6 is to play Radagast, then immediately set him on fire.  That way the move limit is +1 but you don't have the drawback of his gametext when you triple move.  By then you should have a solid hand with Out of the High Airs and other support to make a triple move a real possibility.

The deck is 31 cards and I wouldn't add anything to it.  You need to keep it small so that you can Draw Saved From the Fire ASAP.  You could cut it down to 30, but you'd have to make a judgment call as to what card is least needed based on what shadows are popular.  The other benefit is that Saved From The Fire filters your deck and allows you to set up very strong shadow hands too.

The Frodo is a good answer versus corruption decks, giving him extra resistance so he doesnt have to sacrifice card slots to burden removal. And the ring helps versus swarm, giving a continuous strength bonus. He doesnt need the vitality from the water ring because ents tend to have high vitality themselves.

The ring is also super good against archery decks or decks that put a lot of threats on the table.  Being able to take a bunch of archery wounds or threats as burdens at site 9 can be very important in some match-ups.

wouldn't Frodo, OBH and Bounder be better than Frodo, RH and the Tale thing?

Depends if people play a lot of ally hate in your surroundings. Also, tripled is still doable by a good moria swarm.

Kind of a necro, but just thought I'd chime in.

I like pairing this freeps with ninja gollum and then starting smeagol in the fellowship as well. This way, if you draw in to one of your other saved from the fires later, you can set up a nice shadow hand and find whatever gollum cards you haven't found yet (nothing worse than digging for Promise Keeping). Since you're playing 4 saved from the fires, might as well make more of them count!

Shadow recommendations? Anything with decent cycling to find Saved From the Fire?
