Title: Gandalf & Saved from the Fire
Post by: DerekjB85 on September 02, 2018, 03:11:09 PM
Is it possible to have Gandalf in play, use “saved from the fire” and place him in the dead pile, get “sent back” another Gandalf and play the new gandalf?

Thanks and sorry I don’t know how to link the cards.

Edit: Looks like it’s automatic. Nice work whoever made this! First post, love the forum.

Yes, as long as Gandalf isn't the ringbearer

Thanks! Now if I could ask a follow up. What happens if sent back is discarded and there’s a Gandalf in play and a gandalf in the dead pile?

Edit: Could you elaborate on why “saved from the fire” works this way? Why the event can resolve with out Gandalf in play?

Saved From the Fire only requires a Spotting of Gandalf. Once you spot him, you could rip up his card and stick the pieces in the microwave for an hour and, technically, SFtF wouldn’t care.

Haha! Thanks.

Now is there any rule preventing me from keeping Gandalf out if sent back is discarded from play and there’s a Gandalf in the dead pile?

No, there isn't.

The rules prevent you from playing an unique card if there is another card of the same name active or in your dead pile.  Sent Back's Fellowship/Regroup action allows you break this rule.  There is no "garbage collection" rule to check if there are unique cards in play and in the dead pile; it only checks when you play the card.
