I have always had the mindset of, "play with the hand you're dealt" to the point that I have not mulliganed, ever. That has recently changed thanks to playing a different card game and coming to understand that the ability to mulligan is not only a part of the game, but an integral part which can mean the difference of setting up your team on site 1 versus site 3.

I would like to hear some strategies you use to trigger in your mind the thought of, "I need to mulligan this hand."

So, I mostly mulligan if I see that I have no (or only a few not to important) cards to play with the mindset of "Well, it can't be worse than this".

But as some decks require specific cards and/or combinations I will  mulligan more often to get this/these key cards as quickly as possible.

If I am going first, in general, I want a companion in my hand. If I am going second, I either want something I can drop into the support area, or cheaper spam minions to cycle through my hand.

Obviously it differs with every deck and based on the site 1.
