Title: Deck Help- Gollum Shadow
Post by: GilGalad44 on August 13, 2020, 04:10:40 PM
Hey y'all. This is my first try with a Gollum shadow. I never messed with it back in my tournament days, but I'm really enjoying it. The Fellowship I have it paired with is 41 cards, but so far I haven't had any trouble cycling it. I'm currently sitting with a 7-6 rating on it, with most of the wins coming from my Shadow side.

Do you have any advice on how to punch up the Shadow a bit? I'm gonna build this deck in real life, but I discovered I traded most of my Gollum stuff away for my Elven obsession.  I wanted to run it by the community before I started hunting down the cards.

Adventure deck:
Sleeping Quarters
King's Tent
Hall of the Kings
Anduin Banks
Crashed Gate
Minas Tirith First Circle
Osgiliath Channel
Northern Ithilien
Slag Mounds

Shadow Draw Deck (41):
3x Gollum, Mad Thing
1x Gollum, Stinker
4x Shelob, Her Ladyship
1x Grima, Wormtongue
1x Bill Ferny, Swarthy Sneering Fellow
4x Morgul Ambusher
1x Úlairë Enquëa, Lieutenant of Morgul
3x Web
4x Captured by the Ring
1x We Must Have It
3x You're a Liar and a Thief
2x Evil-smelling Fens
2x Fat One Wants It
2x Hidden Even From Her
3x Promise Keeping
2x Slippery as Fishes
4x They Stole It

Thanks!

I would probably add a couple of Desert Lords for some free exertions but other than that the Shadow looks solid! I don't think Bill Ferny is that necessary considering most decks will have a Greenleaf or Aragorn's Bow to just gun him down. I would take out Slippery as Fishes because I would assume most of Gollums kills are coming from Promise Keeping and They Stole It.

This is what I would do
-2 Slippery as Fishes
-1 Bill Ferny, Swarthing Sneering Fellow
+2 Desert Lord
+1 Final Strike

I see you received very accurate advice. I did the same and it's fine.

I hadn’t thought to include Desert Lord. That’s a great point. I’ll pop two in there and see what happens. I was holding on to Bill Ferny for sentimental reasons, but you’re 100% correct. He rarely made it to skirmishes.

Why have 3 copies of Mad Stinker when you could cut 2 to add 2 We must have it?

I’m wary of removing any copies of Gollum simply because he’s my most important asset in this deck. I see how that could help counter The Tale of The Great Ring tho.

We Must Have It is as good as another copy of Gollum though, unless you think you'll face a lot of Dauntless Hunter. I'm partial to So Polite, myself.

That’s two recommendations. I’ll definitely give it a few tries and see what happens! I completely forgot about So Polite. I might sprinkle one or two of those in there to help combat choke decks.
