Say it's my shadow turn, and I played Messenger of Morgul, Lord of the Nazgul, and a Shadowy Mount on the Witch-king (and we're not at a battleground or forest). Earlier this game I gave my opponent's Heir to the White City a Black Breath. First assignment and skirmish happen, and everything goes like normal, both Toldea and the Witchy make it. But now it's the fierce assignment, and I use Shadowy Mount to assign my LotN (a non-fierce minion) to their Aragorn. Now what? (1) Does the Witch-king fight, despite not being fierce, (2) would I not even be allowed to use Shadow Mount's ability (if this is the case, Gemp does light up Shadowy Mount in this situation, but I've never tried to use it because I never had a [Wraith] condition out and didn't want to risk making a Nazgul fight that shouldn't be able to), or (3) would he be assigned, just not fighting? I personally think that option 3 or 1 makes the most sense, but this game doesn't always choose the way that makes the most sense.
TLDR; Can Shadowy Mount make non-fiercies fight?

The answer is no. Non-Fierce minions cannot be assigned to fierce skirmishes.

A minion must be in play and fierce at the start of the fierce assignment phase to participate in a fierce skirmish. During the fierce assignment phase, ignore any effect that results in assignment with a minion that is not fierce.

Would this mean that the minion technically is or technically is not assigned (for purposes like Merry, Loyal Companion, let's say).

Technically not.
