Title: Stealing NK's Idea... (Bilbo's Tales)
Post by: SomeRandomDude on November 20, 2008, 10:54:37 AM
So I stole the idea from NK, but couldn't resist an opportunity to build a tale based deck.

34/34

Bilbo, Bearer of Things Burgled
The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry

Pippin, Steadfast Friend
Merry, Horticultarist
Gandalf, Leader of Men

Sam, Great Elf Warrior
Farmer Maggot, Hobbit of the Marish

Red Book of Westmarch
A Light in His Mind x 2
Nine-Fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom x 2
Scouring of the Shire x 4
The Tale of the Great Ring x 2
Everyone Knows x 4
Consorting With Wizards x 2
Hobbit Sword x 3
Sting, Weapon of Heritage
Saved From the Fire x 4
Gandalf's Hat
Brooding on Tomorrow x 2
Citadel to Gate

Ulaire Nelya, Third of the Nine Riders x 4
The Witch-King, Captain of the nine Riders x 3
Ulaire Toldea, Eighth of the Nine Riders x 2
Ulaire Toldea, Black Shadow
Ulaire Enquea, Black Threat
Ulaire Enquea, Sixth of the Nine Riders x 2
Ulaire Otsea, Duplicitous Specter x 2
Ulaire Nertea, Dark Horseman
Ulaire Lemenya, Lieutenant of Morgul x 2
Black Rider x 4

Moving this Way x 4
Dark Approach x 4
Lost in the Woods x 4

0 The Angle
0 Woody End
0 Buckland Homestead
1 Hill of Sight
2 Caras Galadhon
2 Westemnet Village
3 Trollshaw Forest
3 Crossroads of the Fallen King
3 Valley of the Silverlode

So the point is to use Saved from the Fire to roast Merry, who has grabbed Maggot, and set up the Red Book of Westmarch, A Light In His Mind and another card. Then, you use Sam, Maggot and Pippin as your main fighters (each of them being base strength 7 or better, typically), keep the fellowship under 5, cycle like mad in the regroup and drop a Forestgul Bomb.

Is that...? No, it can't be! ...It is!

You're using Nine-Fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom in a deck?! I never thought I'd live to see the day.

Every card has its place....

NFFatRoD doesn't have a place in most decks, but still, a dedicated tale deck, why not? ;)

The deck seems a bit fat. Does it really need 2 Brooding on Tomorrow or 2 Light In His Mind? And what is the function of Citadel to Gate in this deck?

SftF is a good way to get the Red Book - I have a similar deck with ninja Gollum on the other side and Pitiable Guide to bring back Shadow [Gollum] cards, a very slim build that also uses Dwarves and Till Durin Wakes Again. I like the concept; I think it's fun! Your deck is probably better though!

Citadel to Gate is a nice heal all Shire Companions for Everyone Knows synergy.

Thinking of running Smallburrow instead.
