ok, well since you said your freeps sucks chicken, i figure i'll give my 2 cents.
you seem to be moving in 2 different directions. you've got elves, and you've got gandalf.
for instance, you have 3x The Terror of His Coming, and only 2 comps that card works with. not to mention, the only condition you can bring back is not the first halfling. i'd say this deck would work better if you honed it.
i like the gandy stuff you have going, i'd gut the elves, switch ringbearer to frodo, add grimbeorn and a few axes, and throw in another gandy comp that you can burn with sftf to set up quicker. after you've burned smeagol. and i'd probably take out the 3x terror of his coming for some different strength pumps or other nice things... and you can toss in an extra hobbit for not the first halfling.

I say [Gandalf] Men is the way to go. Barliman, Red-Faced Landlord is surely the right choice with all those followers wandering around. Grimbeorn sucks with that Shadow side, unfortunately (not enough high strength minions) but the Librarian, Brand, even Ghan-buri-Ghan seem worth playing with Guidance of the Istari as your staple pump. Get loads of tokens, loads of followers, Strange Meeting, G for Grand and burden removal and you have a whole fellowship of awesome tank Men (3 G for Grand + 4 Strange Meeting + Librarian + Brand = +6 to each Man, +10 if they happen to bear a follower!).
Thranduil

whoa, you're 100% right that in this deck grimbeorn won't be his full potential, but i still would contend that he can be as useful as the other men. think about it, even if you never discard minions for his strength, him, with his axe, erland, and all those strength pumps flying around, he gives you vitality 5, and he heals at each site. you can use him for soaking up archery, exertions, all sorts of useful stuff. and then, with all your pumps, g for grand strange meeting, he's going to win some skirmishes, and with his axe, he can fulfill the role that The Terror of His Coming played. but he can even get events, and discarded followers back from discard.

Yeah, I agree with these two here, only I would go with a Gandalf package + elves. Galadriel Ring-Bearer IMO and you can run some random burnable elf for Saved from the Fire. I like burning Smeagol, but the extra Saved from the Fire can be helpful in setting up an elf deck. Maybe just your standard RoS elf? Start him and Leader of Men.
