Title: Brion Launch
Post by: TheJord on November 27, 2008, 05:48:39 PM
I pulled a Brion Stoutarm, so I wanted to put something together to use him

// Lands
    15 [SA] Mountain (1)
    4 [SA] Jungle Shrine
    4 [LRW] Ancient Amphitheater

// Creatures
    4 [LRW] Brion Stoutarm
    4 [EVE] Figure of Destiny
    2 [MOR] Brighthearth Banneret
    4 [LRW] Blind-Spot Giant
    4 [LRW] Stinkdrinker Daredevil

// Spells
    4 [SHM] Flame Javelin
    3 [10E] Shock
    4 [SA] Magma Spray
    4 [SHM] Firespout
    4 [LRW] Giant's Ire

Figure of Destiny usually wins the day, Brion is more of a win-more card. He can throw the Figure if there are chumpable fliers, and the Blind-spot Giant if they cant make it through. Lots of burn spells to keep the table clear.

Sideboard would have 4x Gutteral Response obv... not sure what else.

Firespout and weenies do not play well together. Also, you have no green in the deck, so Pyroclasm costs one less mana anyway. I'd drop it. Then, you have Shock and Magma Spray. I'd drop both for 4 Incinerate (perhaps 2 Magma Spray, for troublesome Finks). But the bottom line, you said yourselrf: Brion is a win-more card in this deck. SO don't make the deck about him, use him as what he is: big, angry and gamewinner. That said, play Kichen Finks yourself, perhaps 1-2 copies of Blaze instead of a set of Giant's Ire (just plain better), and maybe #$&*@!'s Thunder. This might be a good starting point.

Jungle Shrine? But I think #$&*@!'s Thunder looks good. I am considering some Threaten to use for Brion to throw... like any Fatties people want to use.

To make Brion more useful, something bigger to throw... maybe use Ajani Goldmace, get that token out? Or use Mossbridge Troll with weenies. Brion throws a 25/25 Troll lol!

Ajani might actually be a good idea. Those 4 Jungle Shrine are not enough to reliably cast Firespout with green. If you want to use threaten, then use Unwilling Recruit, it's strictly better, although I'd probably only sideboard it. Your main deck nees to have consistency, you can't afford to have a dead card, and against control, a sorcery-speed, mana-intensive "removal" is a dead card for an aggro deck.

Open with Flamekin Harbinger. Grab Nova Chaser. Champion Harbinger, swing with Brion. Grab another Chaser, rinse, lather, repeat.

Incandescent Soulstoke + Nova Chaser, swing for 10 sac with Brion or trample and pull dmg on stack trick.

I have gone for the Nova Chaser/Flamekin Harbinger angle, removed Giant's Ire for Crush Underfoot (Brion's lifelink is nice with it). Favor of the Mighty is a fun card as well for Nova Chaser

The problem I'm having is mana screwage with constant top decked Nova Chaser's. Any ideas on a mana ramp?

B/R decks with some elementals love the Smokebraider/Manaforge Cinder combo, but that may not be what you want in the deck.
