Been a while since we did a FP culture in this set. In fact, it looks like the last FP card I posted was when I wrapped up the [Gandalf] culture (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=471.195)...in August! :o Guess I've been in a shadowy mood for the last 3 months, eh? Get it? :hey:
Yeah, okay not funny. But maybe this is....
With December officially begun and Christmas on the horizon, I figured it would be an appropriate time to begin with Christmas elves! Or at least...uh...regular Elves. ;)
Still not funny? Aw, you people have no sense of humor. :P Anyway....
We have already seen two of the Three Hunters: Gimli, Dwarf of Many Journeys (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=319.90) and the Aragorn, Son of Arathorn (http://lotrtcgdb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=5452&start=180). Now it's time to complete the trio with their !Elven comrade, who (unsurprisingly) will kick off this culture.
[2]•Legolas, From Distant Mirkwood (G)
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Signet: Aragorn
Archer. Hunter 1.
Legolas may be spotted as an [Elven] companion.
While you can spot Aragorn and Gimli, Legolas gains hunter 1.
Each time Legolas wins a skirmish, you may exert him to make a minion skirmishing a hunter companion strength -1 for each hunter companion you can spot (limit -3) until the regroup phase.
“‘He stands not alone,’ said Legolas, bending his bow and fitting an arrow with hands that moved quicker than sight. ‘You would die before your stroke fell.’”
He has the same first line as Gimli DoMJ and Aragorn SoA; if you have all three out, each is an additional hunter 1, which is nice for pure Three Hunters decks. His main ability, as with the other two, triggers when he wins skirmishes. Gimli's ability gives damage bonuses to other hunters and Aragorns spot hunters to increase the move limit a bit. Legolas' ability probably makes the most sense of the three, and really helps set up the other two to win skirmishes of their own.
Similarly, we've already seen the Helm's Deep versions of Legolas' Dwarf and Man companions--Gimli, Stout and Strong (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=319.0) and the Aragorn, Man of the West (http://lotrtcgdb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=5452&start=180)--so here's the Helm's Deep version of the !Prince of Mirkwood.
[2]•Legolas, Hopeful and Fair [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Signet: Théoden
Valiant. Hunter 1.
At the start of each archery phase, you may remove an [Elven] or (G) token to exert a minion.
Each time Legolas wins a fierce skirmish, you may remove or reinforce a culture token.
“‘It is not mist or cloud that defeats my eyes: there is a veiling shadow that some power lays upon the land, and it marches slowly down stream.’”
Gimli SaS and Aragorn MotW have completely different abilities, so I decided to go wild with Legolas as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first token-manipulating version of ol' pointy ear, is it not? I think one is long overdue.
(G), for those who have forgotten, is the Mirkwood culture. It was the largest FP culture (besides [Dwarven]) in my Hobbit-based set Lasting Alliances, and maintains a small niche throughout my other sets, mostly tied in to Legolas somehow.
We'll likely stick with the Helm's Deep theme for awhile, since that's where most Elves in this set are tied to. So look for more tomorrow!

I don't think any of your hunter guys should start with a base hunter bonus - the one they gain from spotting the others is more than enough.

Now, I'm perfectly fine with a (G) culture but just for the sake of argument, why wouldn't Mirkwood Elves be part of the [Elven] culture? What separates them from their Rivendell and Lorien brethren?
I'm no fan of hunter but I agree with Thranduil.

As far as "This and That" subtitles go, this one is pretty good. It's hard to make those sound decent.
Ooooh... Valiant. Me like. He's powerful but of limited use. Good balance.

I like this guy much more.
Which one is the common guy and which is the "better" rare one?
-
I think Hopeful and Fair would be the common. I believe the Helm's Deep Gimli (!Stout and Strong) is one of this set's starters, so the Helm's Deep Legolas and Aragorn would be common. (Maybe uncommon for Aragorn. :-k) So From Distant Mirkwood and the Three Hunter versions of Aragorn and Gimli would all be rare, which I think makes up a bit for their potential hunter 2 each.
Sticking with the Helm's Deep version, here is some of Legolas' gear. (His bow we will hold off on until we get back to hunter stuff.) Enjoy!
[1]•Long-knives of Legolas, The White Knives [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be Legolas.
While the Shadow has initiative or you can spot 2 threats, Legolas is damage +1.
“‘But my count is now two dozen. It has been knife-work up here.’”
An Elf with a damage bonus?! Not completely unique in this set, believe it or not. There is a small handful of other ways to get damage-enhanced Elves (not too many, don't worry), but this is one of the easier ways. If you consider adding threats or losing initiative particularly "easy".
And now for something completely different....
[1]•Legolas' Pauldrons [Rohan]
Possession • Armor
Strength +1
To play, spot a [Rohan] Man. Bearer must be a Man or an Elf.
At the start of each skirmish involving bearer, you may discard a card from hand to make bearer take no more than 1 wound during that skirmish.
Response: If bearer is Legolas and he is about to take a wound in a skirmish, discard this possession to prevent all wounds to him until the regroup phase.
For those who don't know what the heck this is even referring to, check out this (http://arwen-undomiel.com/images/legolas/Legolas_bright_eyes.jpg) shot of a normally-attired Legolas, and then this (http://arwen-undomiel.com/sc/ttt/FT/Ft010.jpg) shot of him at Helm's Deep. Notice the difference? That light amor he has on his shoulders is called "pauldrons", and it's the only time the Elf wore any kind of armor in the novels or films. I figured that kind of occasion deserved a DC. ;)
-
Yeah, they're fine.
Thranduil

The second isn't amazingly useful as you have to pair elves with rohan, which you dont do to often. Nice card though. Your links dont work DI, they wont let you link directly to their images.

“‘But my count is now two dozen. It has been knife-work up here.’”
Meh. I like the classic version better, because overwhelms are more hardcore than damage. :P
But this is neat enough. Elves are good with threats. It's definitely more a Three Hunters-situation weapon, though, I think.
[2]•Legolas' Pauldrons [Rohan]
Possession • Armor

Could cost [1] with the unique.
-

I intend to solidify their link a little more. It's really a shame that the Elves show up to aid the Rohirrim in the film and yet Big D didn't make a single card that ties the two cultures together. I will have a handful, and in fact already created a couple in my previous sets, like this one from way back in Lasting Alliances:
[1] Need of Secrecy and Speed [Rohan]
Event • Maneuver
Stealth.
Until the regroup phase, each time a [Rohan] Man is about to take a wound, you may exert an Elf (or spot 3 Elves) to prevent that.
“Then Felaróf sprang forward, and all the host behind followed like a great wind, but in a strange silence....”
Your links dont work DI, they wont let you link directly to their images.
Really? They seem to work alright to me.... :-k

The links don't work for me neither.

Legolas's armor would sound better...he had some chest stuff too.
pauldrons just sounds funny ;) fine.

Okay, time to unveil a pair of cards I've been wanting to spoil for a LONG time. No sense stalling any further...enjoy!
[2]•Haldir, Warrior of Lórien [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Signet: Aragorn
Archer. Hunter 1. To play, spot an [Elven] companion.
Archery or Skirmish: Exert an Elf archer and add a threat to wound an Orc or Uruk-hai.
Haldir rallied two hundred of the elves of Lothlórien to join him, and together they marched, bearing the banners of their Lady Galadriel and the blessing of Elrond of Imladris.
I figured it was about time we had a kick-butt Haldir. His stats really set him apart from other versions, and he's an archer by default! His archery/skirmish ability is brutal against the right minions, too.
One question: do you think he should have my new Elrond signet instead? I was debating which to run with.... :-k
Haldir is not only great in archery, but has always been a kick-butt fighter, too. Here's a card that really turns him into a monster in that department.
[2]•Blade of the Golden Wood [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be an Elf. When you play this weapon, exert bearer or add a threat.
If bearer is exhausted, he or she is damage +1.
If bearer is Haldir, he is enduring.
Yes, another rare way to get an Elf a damage bonus, but with an obvious risk to it: they only get that bonus if they're exhausted. Of course, if you slap this on Haldir, that comes with OTHER benefits, too.... :uh-huh:
This is a nod to how Haldir is seemingly the last Elf standing (besides Legolas) at Helm's Deep. As things grow dark around him, he is still fighting on, slaying foes even as the blades begin to find him as they found his comrades. The scene is very moving in the film, and I think really deserved a card like this.
I really hope you like these, because they were some of the very first DCs I ever designed and I've been rather proud of them since. If you DON'T, though, don't hesitate to let me know. I can always tweak them and blame any deficiencies on being young to DC design when I made them. :P
-
[2]•Haldir, Warrior of Lórien [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Signet: Aragorn
Archer. Hunter 1. To play, spot 2 [Elven] companions.
Haldir is strength -1 for each site an opponent controls (limit -3).
Archery or Skirmish: Exert an Elf archer and discard 2 cards from hand (or one card if at a battleground) to wound an Orc or Uruk-hai.
Haldir rallied two hundred of the elves of Lothlórien to join him, and together they marched, bearing the banners of their Lady Galadriel and the blessing of Elrond of Imladris.

I love the sword (though I think it should cost [2] or have only +1 strength), but I do not love the Haldir. He's just too limited and he has too much text. I think he should have no drawback but a much lesser ability which does not require specific minions on the table. Warrior Messenger, for example, was really nice clean design. Obviously I love that this Haldir is strength 6 and an archer, but I don't like his other text (including hunter bonus, but you know my opinions on that already! ;) ).
Thranduil

I love the sword (though I think it should cost [2] or have only +1 strength), but I do not love the Haldir.
I respectfully disagree with the sword. I think the additional cost of threats or an exertion makes up for the [1] and strength +2 (yes, even with the rarity of [Elven] weapons being anything greater than strength +1).
I'm going to hold off on changes--for now--until I get another review or two. I'm certainly willing to make changes to either (especially Haldir), but these are cards I want to see the majority opinion on first.
:gp: for the first review! ;)

Except the fact that you're getting a potential +6 or more AND a damage bonus from a single weapon suggests that it should be more.
Thranduil

True.... :-k
What if I changed it to requiring the 2 threats (and dropped the exertion option)?

nah...he was a lorien elf. aragorn signet is better. hmm...the ability is awful powerful. I would prefer if he wasn't an archer and than have it, otherwise he's a one elf orc/uruk killer...
[1]•Blade of the Golden Wood [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be an Elf. When you play this weapon, exert bearer or add 2 threats.
If bearer is exhausted, he or she is damage +1.
If bearer is Haldir, he is enduring.
I would make it plus 1 like other elven blades. than where fine IMSO.
-
You could limit the time window for playing it, like "To play, spot exactly 2 threats" or whatever in this fashion. Then, it's ok to be a little overpowered, you might not even get to play it during a game!
-
[2]•Haldir, Warrior of Lórien [Elven]

Seems fine to me.

Nah hes fine with Gorn.
[1]•Blade of the Golden Wood [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be an Elf. When you play this weapon, exert bearer or add 2 threats.
If bearer is exhausted, he or she is damage +1.
If bearer is Haldir, he is enduring.
Not sure i like this tbh DI. It relies on you being exhausted for a benefit and i dont wanna injure my companions let alone exert to play it. It might be useful and potentially powerful but id never use it.
-
Okay, I changed Haldir's ability a bit and tweaked the costs of the sword. Better now?
-
Well, please do look over those last two cards again, but to keep things moving....
[2]•Belurion, Gallant Fighter [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
While Belurion bears a hand weapon, he gains hunter 2 and is damage +1.
Rare among his kind, Belurion was known more for his prowess with the sword than with the bow.
Most of the Elves from the original Towers Block had text that triggered when you slapped ranged weapons on them, negating their archery in exchange for boosted stats. I like the overall idea, but since Elves are all about archery (most definately including at Helm's Deep), I thought it was a shame they had to lose that in the process. So I decided to instead focus on an area often neglected in [Elven] decks: hand weapons. Yes, you'll see the occasional deck that runs Aiglos or a few copies of Sword of the Fallen, but usually Elves are bereft of the swords and knives they are so proficient with when archery doesn't cut it. So I will be trying to strongly encourage their use with these Elves, and Belurion is a perfect example, looking very much like his Towers Block kin (and Erethon in particular) while still being completely different.
ALSO like the Towers Elves, Belurion's name and lore and completely fictional. Big D decided to go hog wild with titles and backgrounds for their Towers Elves--probably because they appear only in the film--so I figured, why not do the same? It was kinda fun coming up with Elvish names that sounded cool as I got the hang of it. Like with this guy:
[2]•Melisilion, Naith Bowman [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
To play, spot an Elf.
Archery: If Melisilion bears an [Elven] ranged weapon, exert him and discard a card from hand to wound an Orc or Uruk-hai; he does not add to the fellowship archery total.
Skirmish: If Melisilion bears an [Elven] hand weapon, exert him and discard a card from hand to wound a minion he is skirmishing.
Melisilion was efficient with blade and bow.
One other carry-over from the Towers Elves is some directed wounding. It's not too terribly easy to come by here, since you have to discard a lot of cards to really get it rolling, but Melisilion's versatility is what makes him so awesome. Perhaps TOO awesome...you tell me! That's what I'm (not) paying you for, after all! ;)
-
Well, please do look over those last two cards again, but to keep things moving....
[2]•Belurion, Gallant Fighter [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
While Belurion bears a hand weapon, he is strength +2 and damage +1.
Rare among his kind, Belurion was known more for his prowess with the sword than with the bow.
Hand weapons are more common and more useful than ranged so this guy suddenly becomes much more than an average fighter. A 9 strength damage +1 elf is really rather good for some misc dude who probably died anonymously!
[2]•Melisilion, Naith Bowman [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
To play, spot an Elf.
Archery: If Melisilion bears an [Elven] ranged weapon, exert him and discard 2 cards from hand to wound an Orc or Uruk-hai; he does not add to the fellowship archery total.
Skirmish: If Melisilion bears an [Elven] hand weapon, exert him and discard 2 cards from hand to wound a minion he is skirmishing.
Melisilion was efficient with blade and bow.
Maybe just 1 card MAX (not that you can have lower but if there was a "half a card" id say that) from hand as exerting him limits his ability anyway and he is only 5 strength.
-
Really? And here I thought Melisilion was borderline OVERpowered.
I'll leave him alone for the moment, but I did tweak Belurion ever so slightly.
-

You need random name generators - I have some great ones on my favourites! 8-) One of the important things with elvish names is that they often end up with having far too much "s", "l" and "n" sounds - there are important, but you can't go overboard, IMO. I think your Naith need to represent their proficiency with both ranged and hand weapons.

This guy is a great illustration of what I was suggesting above. I think I agree with lem0n.

I still think haldirs sword should be a base strength of plus 1.

fine. though lem0n it would probably be and 8 strength guy. maybe cut the damage +1 and give him some sort of bow thing...maybe if he bears a ranged weapon damage +1?

He's fine. A ramped-up unique version of that one guy from Hunters who I can never remember because he gathers dust in my extras. This one, I might use.

Now the ability doesn't offset the downsides as much. He's a lot like Orophin and Rumil, but instead of Hunters he favors Archers and is limited to Orcs and Uruks.
Personally, I'd drop the first two parts of his text - the spotting requirement and the strength reduction. You don't need them with the ability as-is. I'd also change the ability to Hunter instead of Archer... to keep in line with Orophin and Rumil as an overall theme. But I guess you could leave that as-is.
He wouldn't be OP even then, compared to Orophin (A pretty much 10 strength guy for 2) or Rumil (8 strength archer) with their own similar wounding abilities... My point is, he doesn't need the "downside" text at all.
Oh, and by the way, in the movies, Haldir is my favorite elf EVER. I'm glad to see a good DC of him.
[2]•Blade of the Golden Wood [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +2
Bearer must be an Elf. When you play this weapon, exert bearer or add a threat.
If bearer is exhausted, he or she is damage +1.
If bearer is Haldir, he is enduring.
Might be better if you dropped cost and strength to 1, and removed the "when you play." Although I guess I like the idea of the enduring-maker exerting the guy it's played on.
By the way, I LOVE the enduring on Haldir. It fits his movie-epic flavor perfectly.
You get some :gp: for these two. I can't believe I didn't see 'em sooner.
-
To be honest, you should never compare any companion to Orophin or Rumil - those two are ridiculously OP.

I think that (aside from having archer by default), he's weaker than the Silvan brothers because he's limited to Orcs and Uruks. Granted, that still means that most cultures ([Sauron], [Orc], [Moria], (G) [Isengard], [Uruk], etc.) are vulnerable, but many others ([Raider], [Dunland], [Wraith] {for the most part}, [Gollum]) are not affected at all. Still, even without his ability, I'll take a 6/3 archer hunter any day.
That all being said, I have cut Haldir's spotting requirement in half and, as EL suggested, dropped his drawback text. Hopefully that doesn't cause too much of an uproar....
Now, since we're emphasizing [Elven] weapons, let's take a look at what they have to play with in this set, eh?
[1] Naith Sword [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf.
Skirmish: Exert bearer or add a threat to make a minion skirmishing bearer strength -1.
Their long, curved blades gave the Galadhrim warriors a devastating advantage in close combat.
I contemplated just "reprinting" Elven Sword, especially since I tend to play around a bit with discarding from hand. But I ALSO want to play around with threats, so I opted to go with something a little different.
(0) Fighting Knife [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Bearer must be an Elf. This weapon may be borne in addition to 1 other hand weapon.
Each wounded minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1 (or -2 if exhausted).
“Then Legolas gave into his hand his silver-hafted knife....”
Perhaps a little too good for (0)?
[1] Elven Bow [Elven] (reprint)
Possession • Ranged Weapon
Bearer must be an Elf.
Bearer is an archer.
“‘Hado i philinn!’”
This might be the most overpowered DC I've ever made. Oh, wait....
[1] Bow of Lórien [Elven]
Possession • Ranged Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an unbound Elf.
At the end of each archery phase, if bearer has resistance 4 or more, you may exert bearer to exert an unwounded minion (or exert any minion if bearer is an archer).
“‘Hado ribed!’”
Following the tradition of Naith Longbow, even though most of these guys don't have the archery-negation of the old Towers Elves (which is what made Naith Longbow so viable in comparison to Elven Bow in that block). This is obviously best on an otherwise-archer-capable Elf like Legolas or my own Haldir.
-
[1] Naith Sword [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf.
Skirmish: Exert bearer or add a threat to make a minion skirmishing bearer strength -1.
Their long, curved blades gave the Galadhrim warriors a devestating advantage in close combat.
Fine, but always found this type of weapon really poo.
(0) Fighting Knife [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf. This weapon may be borne in addition to 1 other hand weapon.
Each wounded minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1 (or -2 if exhausted).
“Then Legolas gave into his hand his silver-hafted knife....”
Yeah probably too good for 0. Cut the parenthesis and maybe just maybe its ok.
Interesting, unconventional and although i dislike the timing it actually feels pretty cool.

I still think haldir's sword should be base strength one

Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf.
Skirmish: Exert bearer or add a threat to make a minion skirmishing bearer strength -1.

devastating. not devestating. fine.
“Then Legolas gave into his hand his silver-hafted knife....”
yeah too good for 0. make it 1.
“‘Hado ribed!’”
hado ribed? meaning? aim target? ;) or just aim fire? fine.
-
I still think haldir's sword should be base strength one
LOL. :gp: for making me chuckle. :P I hear you, but I still respectfully disagree. I think the [2] and other cost (exertion or a threat) makes it balanced, and I personally like having one more rare 2-strength [Elven] sword. I think unique ones like this SHOULD be +2 in many cases, as with Hadafang and Gwemegil. After all, you don't get any other benefits unless the bearer is close to death, so there's definate risk involved.
Good catch on the lore (someone actually reads the lore?!...you've made my day!). I'll fix that up and raise the cost of the knife to [1].
-
wait...what catch on the lore? I was just wondering what it meant?...
no one seemed to be paying attention so I had to resort to drastic measures.
I actually like dit at 1 cost, +1 strength...but I get what your saying.
-
[1] Naith Sword [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf.
Skirmish: Exert bearer or add a threat to make a minion skirmishing bearer strength -1.
Their long, curved blades gave the Galadhrim warriors a devastating advantage in close combat.
I'd make a knight's spear-esque change and perhaps limit the number of threats you can add. Or at least how many threats you can add per skirmish.
[1] Fighting Knife [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf. This weapon may be borne in addition to 1 other hand weapon.
Each wounded minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1 (or -2 if exhausted).
“Then Legolas gave into his hand his silver-hafted knife....”
With sword of the fallen this gets wicked insane. Along with elven hunters, which are like base strength 10 against wounded guys.
[1] Elven Bow [Elven] (reprint)
Possession • Ranged Weapon
Bearer must be an Elf.
Bearer is an archer.
“‘Hado i philinn!’”
My lord. Unconditional archer for [1]? What ya thinkin, boy?
:P
[1] Bow of Lórien [Elven]
Possession • Ranged Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an unbound Elf.
At the end of each archery phase, if bearer has resistance 4 or more, you may exert bearer to exert an unwounded minion (or exert any minion if bearer is an archer).
“‘Hado ribed!’”
Well, it can't kill minions, but it can wound 'em. It's fine.
-
oh I see...the spelling error. makes sense...and yeah, I always read lore. I luv good lore. wove good wore. wove good lore. love good wore. meh.
-
[1] Naith Sword [Elven]
Possession • Hand Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be an Elf.
Skirmish: Exert bearer or add a threat to make a minion skirmishing bearer strength -1.
Their long, curved blades gave the Galadhrim warriors a devastating advantage in close combat.
Yeah it's alright. A fine revamped Elven Sword.
This seems better than the card above. I don't think it needs the original bonus (and could still cost [1]).
Far too complicated, and I don't think it should be limited to unbound Elves. I would make it "At the end of the archery phase, if bearer has resistance 4 or more, you may exert him or her to exert a minion". That is really really fine and much simpler. And it doesn't bother me that Galadriel gets it easily.
Following from Elven Armaments, you should make a Hand/Ranged Weapon for your Naith!

Alright, I tweaked the Knife, but left the Bow alone since the majority seemed to think it was fine.
And now, to make the most use out of that knife....
[2]•Tathar, Naith Swordsman [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 6
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Tathar is strength +1 for each weapon he bears.
A weaponsmith in the Golden Wood, Tathar was partially responsible for arming his fellow warriors before their march to faraway Helm's Deep.
Would strength 5 be better?
[2] Knife-work [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Make an Elf bearing a hand weapon strength +3 (or +5 if bearing 2 hand weapons).
“The elf was whetting his long knife....the attempt to break in through the culvert had been foiled.”
I figured such a rare occurance should merit a rare reward. ;)

Event • Skirmish
Make an Elf bearing a hand weapon strength +3 (or +5 if bearing 2 hand weapons).
“The elf was whetting his long knife....the attempt to break in through the culvert had been foiled.”
Wow what a crazy #$&*@! card for elves. Not sure it shouldnt just be +2 to start with.....
-
I thought about making Knife-work +2/+4, but then it seemed very weak compared to other [Elven] events like Point Blank Range and the bevy of events that boost by +2 initially since all THOSE events don't require any kind of condition to be met for the initial +2. In this case, of course, there IS a condition that has to be met for even that initial bonus: a hand weapon. I figured that at least merited a +3, and then there didn't seem to be much incentive for the additional weapon if only another +1 was provided as a step up, so I tossed out +3/+4 as well and settled for +3/+5. I comforted myself in the knowledge that Final Shot is able to get away with this without too much trouble or controvery. Yes, I realize they're quite different, but still.
So, I'd rather leave it at +3/+5, personally. It really requires some work to get there since you have to combo three cards (two weapons and this event) to get that +5 boost, and again, I really think the +3 is warranted considering it has to be combined with at least one weapon.
If there is still strong disagreement, I'll certainly reconsider. But I have internally debated this one quite a bit myself already, so unless someone really DOES feel strongly about it, I'd prefer to leave it alone.
A couple more possessions before we dive into more Elves....
[1] Naith !Armor [Elven]
Possession • !Armor
Each minion skirmishing bearer loses all strength and damage bonuses from possessions and artifacts.
Skirmish: Discard this possession to discard a Shadow card borne by a character in bearer's skirmish.
The elegant design was made more for agility and deflection of weapons than beauty, perfected over many centuries of warfare with Sauron's forces.
Pop quiz: Elves got their first shield with Elven Armaments, but do they have any !armor possessions or artifacts yet? The answer, sadly, is no. In fact, other than the cultures that armor obviously doesn't really belong in ([Gandalf] and [Gollum]), [Elven] is the ONLY FP culture that lacks !armor. This despite the fact that the two times we see Elven armies in combat during the films--the Siege of Barad-dûr during the final days of the Last Alliance and during the Battle of the Hornburg--they are ALL wearing !armor. What gives, Decipher?
I figured it was about time to remedy this injustice. The strength/damage-cancelling is pretty standard !armor fare, but I wanted to give this a really [Elven] flair, so I cooked up the rather unique skirmish ability. Note that it works on either minions OR companions, so you can discard possessions, conditions, or even artifacts borne by minions or even a pesky Shadow condition that has been slapped on your Elf.
[1] Brooch of Lórien [Elven]
Possession • Brooch
Resistance +1
To play, spot an Elf. Bearer must be a companion.
Response: If another possession or artifact borne by bearer is about to be discarded, add [1] and discard this possession to prevent that.
“It looked like the new-opened leaf of a beech-tree, fair and strange....”
Much simpler here. I didn't want to just reprint Elven Brooch, so I went with something that gives a little resistance boost and protects your possessions AND artifacts...at the cost of [1] additional twilight. I think it's a fair tradeoff, and the resistance hopefully gives a little more incentive for using this (even if it's only with Galadriel BoW) than the original.
-
General comments:
I do believe Elves have artifatcs, since they have Rings and Galadriel's Silver Ewer, they're all artifacts, aren't they? Also, I believe the game's rules won't allow artifacts to be discarded (except maybe for cards that specifically say so) so unless you state that on the card's ability, it wouldn't work. The design, though, is pretty neat, although that armor could possibly cost 2, at 1 and being non-unique I think it might be too powerful.
-

I meant !armor artifacts. ;)

I'm not sure that's true. Grond HotU allows discarding artifacts--it's one of the more powerful cards in the game for that very reason, actually--and it too says simply "card" in the text: "Remove X [Sauron] tokens here to discard a Free Peoples card (except a companion) with a twilight cost of X." I see no reason why Naith !Armor couldn't do the same, unless there's something I'm missing.... :-k
I'll consider raising the cost to [2], but then I might be tempted to slap on a small strength bonus or something. I'll wait on another review or two for now.
Thanks, FM! :gp: It's nice to have your reviews when you have the time for them.

I think I might agree with SoP on Knife-work. If you're putting this card into a deck, that already means you expect to have all your Elves with a hand weapon so +2 seems fine. On the other hand, [Elven] events tend to be powerful... Perhaps you should keep it at +3/+5 and increase the cost to [2]? After all, Elves never mind paying extra twilight for extra power.
I like the armor, definitely a lot better than some others. And FM, DI is definitely right on this one: artifacts are only harder to discard because fewer cards specifically mention them (generally they'll just discard possessions), but if something can discard any card, then artifacts are definitely included in that. I think it would be more flavoursome however to change its first line to "Each minion skirmishing bearer loses all strength and damage bonuses from cards they bear." This wording then ties in very closely with the skirmish action having a lot of synergy and it doesn't make a huge difference to gameplay (though perhaps preventing something like Lying in Wait, Seasoned Leader, Saruman, SoS would warrant a cost of [2] instead, but as I said above higher twilight is never a problem for Elves).
Brooch is a bit boring, but fair enough.

I've no problem with the initial +3, but the secondary +5 is a little bothersome. Sure, Final Shot can do it - but at the cost of moving multiple times, which is a BIG requirement. Bearing two weapons is pretty common with elves. Or, at least, certain kinds of elves. I might make it +3/+4 with perhaps some sort of recursion ability (top or bottom of deck) as well.

Fine, but unfortunately not terribly good because it's best ability - saving artifacts - is sort of unusable, except against one card.
-
Like the armor, brooch is ok but really not gonna be used.
I stand by my +2/+5 for knife work.
-
i'm a little late here, but i just wanted to point out that in a way, [gandalf] culture does have armor. the men can wear any rohan or gondor armor that says bearer must be a man. plus, they can use flaming brand, which is pretty sweet on grimmy or someone.
-
Okay, I have very reluctantly gone back and raised the cost of Knife-work to [2]. I'm more open to that than changing the stats, but if people are insistent, I COULD be persuaded to change it to +3/+4 and go back to [1]. Maybe.
In the meantime, let's go back to something a little less controversial and revisit Legolas for a brief while. Or more accurately, the relationship between Gimli and Legolas (and Elves in general). You may or may not remember these cards from the [Dwarven] culture:
[2]•Stout Companion (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=319.15) [Dwarven]
Condition

Tale. Bearer must be a Dwarf.
Each time bearer wins a fierce skirmish, you may heal a non-[Dwarven] companion.
Regroup: Discard this condition to heal bearer (twice if at a battleground or mountain site).
“‘But you comfort me, Gimli, and I am glad to have you standing nigh with your stout legs and your hard axe. I wish there were more of your kin among us.’”

“‘Yet you comfort me. Where you go, I will go. But keep your bow ready to hand, and I will keep my axe loose in my belt.’”
Just as Stout Companion had lore from Legolas about Gimli, this one has strikingly similiar lore from Gimli about Legolas. The conditions are nearly identical otherwise, which is something I typically shy away from, but I personally think really works in this case. What do YOU think?
[1]•Scoring Game [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale. Each time a minion is killed or discarded in a skirmish involving Legolas (or as a result of Legolas' archery ability), you may add an [Elven] token here.
While the number of tokens here and the number of tokens on Counting Game are each X, Gimli is strength +1 for each token here (limit +5).
“‘I desired to tell Master Gimli that my tale is now thirty-nine.’”
Just as Counting Game was a sort of remake of My Axe Is Notched, this is a remake of Final Count, and perhaps the slightly better of the two since it includes potential archery kills (Greenleaf, anyone? ;)). These remade cards are intended to capture the fun of the old My Axe Is Notched/Final Count cycle while potentially being much more useful, with a hefty +5 boost possible as opposed to just +3. Granted, it requires killing minions rather than just winning skirmishes against them, but with Gimli's regular damage bonuses and the damage afforded to certain Elves (and Legolas especially) in this set, it could be easier than you might think.
One more little example of that:
[1] Faeg i-varv [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Make a minion skirmishing an Elf strength -2 (and exert that minion if you can spot Gimli).
“‘Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?’”
Always loved Khazad ai-Menu, and always thought it was a shame that the partnership there ended with [Dwarven]. Why not an [Elven] equivalent? So here one is, finally. Too powerful at [1], though? You tell me.

Yeah, fair enough. If only there was a really clean way of referring to all those minions killed during the archery phase because of Legolas... I might exclude skirmish from this one completely and have "Each time a minion is killed during the archery phase, you may spot Legolas to add an [Elven] token here." You're not going to be packing that much non-Legolas archery if you're running a Gimli/Legolas deck, so it should be fine (and I don't think running Rumil and Orophin with his card is a problem).

I used to love Khazad-ai-Menu as well. I don't think this should give Legolas a damage bonus, I think it's good enough just making a minion strength -3 (or maybe -4 instead). Damage works on Khazad-ai-Menu because it's what Dwarves do. Elves do strength reductions, so I don't think you should get a damage bonus with Faeg i-varv.
Also, just out of curiosity, what does Faeg i-varv mean?

It's the first part of Legolas' line "Their armor is weak at the neck...and under the arms." Yes, doesn't fit entirely, but it DOES at least fit with the text.

Parenthesis is very weird and unconventional. Think the phrasing should be while you can spot X tokens on blah and blah then gimli is strength +X. That way you have to spot the smallest amount available on both.
[1] Faeg i-varv [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Make a minion skirmishing an Elf strength -2 (and exert that minion if you can spot Gimli).
“‘Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?’”
Hehe LOVE the lore.
-
:-k I will strongly consider the suggestions of the Juicy Fruit, especially the one with Counting/Scoring Game. Good calls.
For now, back to actual Elves. These are the common guys. Enjoy!
[1]•Orolonn, Young Swordsman [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 2
Resistance: 6
To play, spot an Elf.
The twilight cost of each hand weapon played on Orolonn is -1.
He and his brother Ordulus both fought with skill far beyond their years on the Deeping Wall.
Always loved little Ordulus, Young Warrior. I figured a similar companion to work with the new hand weapon emphasis would work nicely, and while I was making these guys up, I figured why not make him a relative of young Ordulus? 'Twould be fun to start them both together, wouldn't it?
[2] Naith Guardian [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Hunter 1. Berserker 1. (This character is strength +1 for each wound on each character in its skirmish.) To play, spot an Elf.
Each time this companion wins a fierce skirmish, you may heal an unbound companion with resistance 5 or more.
“‘But there are some of us still who go abroad for the gathering of news and the watching of our enemies....’”
I confess: I stole the lore not from the text of The Two Towers, but from The Fellowship of the Ring. I did this because Naith Warband does the same, a fact that most people don't know and surprised me when I found out. Oddly, it really works, so I decided to go back to the future and do the same myself.
[2] Naith Warrior [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
This companion gains hunter 1 for each weapon he bears.
“‘Yet so little faith and trust do we find now in the world beyond Lothlórien...our hands are more often upon the bowstring than upon the harp.’”
Ditto here.
Anyway, are these non-unique guys too good? I wanted to make them above-average non-unique companions, since most such companions are pretty useless. Did I go too far the other direction?

[1]•Orolonn, Young Swordsman [Elven]

He and his brother Ordulus both fought with skill far beyond their years on the Deeping Wall.
fine
[2] Naith Guardian [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Hunter 1.
This companion is strength +1 for each wound on each minion he is skirmishing.
Each time this companion wins a fierce skirmish, you may heal an unbound companion with resistance 4 or more.
“‘But there are some of us still who go abroad for the gathering of news and the watching of our enemies....’”
ditto below
[2] Naith Warrior [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
While this companion is bearing a weapon, he gains hunter 2.
Response: If you play an [Elven] event during a skirmish involving this companion, exert this companion to shuffle that event into your draw deck.
“‘Yet so little faith and trust do we find now in the world beyond Lothlórien...our hands are more often upon the bowstring than upon the harp.’”
I think he should not have the second ability at all personally...
-
[1]•Orolonn, Young Swordsman [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 2
Resistance: 6
To play, spot an Elf.
The twilight cost of each hand weapon played on Orolonn is -1.
He and his brother Ordulus both fought with skill far beyond their years on the Deeping Wall.
He actually makes Ordulus a TON better, because now you can start something other than Lorien Elf with him and a [2]-cost dude. He's fine.
I don't know. Healing on a non-unique guy is pretty nasty, even if it's really circumstantial. Probably fine, though.
He's fine, but he kind of overshadows a bunch of other non-unique elven guys.

Yeah, fair enough. I probably wouldn't use him or Ordulus, but still fine.
No, I agree with SoP - he doesn't need the second ability. Without it, this guy is awesome.
[2] Naith Warrior [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
While this companion is bearing a weapon, he gains hunter 2.

“‘Yet so little faith and trust do we find now in the world beyond Lothlórien...our hands are more often upon the bowstring than upon the harp.’”
Again I'm agreeing with SoP - just because Elves already have awesome non-unique companions, doesn't mean you have to try and overshadow them. Simplest is best, I feel.

Wow this guy is quite good for a common standard miscellaneous elf.

Again, erring on the side of awesome for a 'mr nobody' elf.

Alright, I tweaked Naith Guardian, adding a spotting requirement and my new keyword from the [Isengard] thread :uh-huh:. I left his healing ability intact, but I DID make it a little harder to use by changing it to companions with resistance 5 or more (it was 4+ before). If that, with the spotting requirement in mind, is STILL too much, let me know.
I reluctantly dropped the Naith Warrior's second ability, but tweaked his hunter text so it's more flexible (and potentially more useful), and raised his resistance a touch for a little more incentive.
Little Orolonn is unchanged. w00t. ;D
Here are a couple more. Enjoy!
[2]•Amras, Naith Scout [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Hunter 1.
Response: If Amras bears a ranged weapon and you play an [Elven] event during the archery phase, exert him to shuffle that event into your draw deck.
Response: If Amras bears a hand weapon and you play an [Elven] event during a skirmish involving him, exert him to shuffle that event into your draw deck.
For centuries he had patrolled the borders of Lothlórien. His fair eyes did him well in the gloom of the Deeping-coomb.
Ha! I'm getting that ability on an Elf somehow! ;) You said (and probably rightly) that it was too good a non-unique Elf. How about for a unique one?
[2]•Githramir, Naith Veteran [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Hunter 1. To play, spot an Elf.
Githramir is strength +1 for each of the following that is true: he is at a battleground, he is at a forest site, he is bearing a hand weapon, he is skirmishing an Orc or Uruk-hai.
Githramir had spent many centuries guarding the forests of Lothlórien from goblins and orcs, and his experience was evident in Helm's Deep.
Built-in Standing Tall! Or similar, anyway.

Tis cool. A good recycling of the other guy's funky ability.

I'd replace one of those with "he is bearing a ranged weapon", as hand weapon + ranged weapon seems to be your theme (probably forest site).
Thranduil
-
Actually, the main theme is supposed to be hand weapons, but there's been plenty of ranged stuff too. Trying to rein it in a little now. :P

Weird, I'm not sure how useful he'd trully be and I'm not sure he needs to bear a HAND weapon to do it, perhaps an [Elven] weapon would be better? Or even any weapon?

Githramir should be 5 strength normally but requires "To play, spot an Elf."

Yeah strength 5.
-
People seem mixed on Amras, but since he doesn't seem to be OP, I think I'll leave him alone. Githramir, on the other hand, has been changed as recommended. Thanks, boys! :gp: for all!
Time for some boosting cards, including a couple reprints I simply couldn't do without. Enjoy!
[1] Weapons of Lothlórien [Elven] (reprint)
Event • Archery
Spot an [Elven] archer and add a threat to wound a minion (or add 3 threats to exert 3 minions).
“‘Leithio i philinn!’”
[2]•Archers of the Wood [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
When you play this condition, add an [Elven] token here for each Elf archer you can spot.
Archery: Remove X [Elven] tokens from here to make the fellowship archery total +1 (limit +3), where X is the current region number.
“‘We shall need them.’”
[1] Feathered [Elven] (reprint)
Event • Skirmish
Make a minion skirmishing an Elf strength -2 for each wound on that minion.
Elven swords found the same targets as their arrows.
[2] Herio! [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Exert any number of Elves. Each Elf you exert is strength +1 and damage +1 until the regroup phase.
“Their spears and swords shone in the gloom with a gleam of chill flame, so deadly was the wrath of the hands that held them.”
-
Cool enough. I liked them.
-
herio?
is that like an elven cheerio?
or a singing hero?
archers of the wood should cost 3 IMSO>
-
Fair enough batch. I disagree with SoP - Archers of the Wood is fine at [2]. It's funny that there's no way to get rid of it and play another, though. Was that intentional?
-
[2]•Archers of the Wood [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
When you play this condition, add an [Elven] token here for each Elf archer you can spot.
Archery: Remove 2 [Elven] tokens from here to make the fellowship archery total +1 (limit +3).
“‘We shall need them.’”
Hmmm id have to play test this to decide how easy tokens are to come by for elves on this card, as to whether it needs to be 3 tokens.
[4] Herio! [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Toil 2.
Exert any number of Elves. Each Elf you exert is strength +1 and damage +1 until the regroup phase.
“Their spears and swords shone in the gloom with a gleam of chill flame, so deadly was the wrath of the hands that held them.”
The toil exertions dont count so you have to exert three elves to get 1 that is strength +1 and damage +1 for no pool. Could be #$&*@! of a lot better DI.
-
[2]•Archers of the Wood [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
When you play this condition, add an [Elven] token here for each Elf archer you can spot.
Archery: Remove 2 [Elven] tokens from here to make the fellowship archery total +1 (limit +3).
“‘We shall need them.’”
With Hearth and Hall this card is ridiculous. I might make it so that you have to remove X tokens where X is the current region number. This also stops a potential BA9.
[1] Feathered [Elven] (reprint)
Event • Skirmish
Make a minion skirmishing an Elf strength -2 for each wound on that minion.
Elven swords found the same targets as their arrows.
I always loved this event. Nice one for a reprint!
[4] Herio! [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Toil 2.
Exert any number of Elves. Each Elf you exert is strength +1 and damage +1 until the regroup phase.
“Their spears and swords shone in the gloom with a gleam of chill flame, so deadly was the wrath of the hands that held them.”
I'm with lem0n on this one. Also wouldn't mind knowing what "Herio" means. ;)

Event • Skirmish

I always loved this event. Nice one for a reprint!
Funny enough, I always loved it too! Hence the reprint. ;)
Also wouldn't mind knowing what "Herio" means. ;)
Quite simply translated as "charge!" You might recognize its utterance (and perhaps better understand the card) if you remember this scene (http://arwen-undomiel.com/sc/ttt/BotDW/BotDW081.jpg), where Aragorn screams it before leading such a "herio" against the invading Uruks.
Anyway, onward and upward. Been doing some internal reviews of The Way Into Mordor the last couple days (especially the ongoing cultures) and realized I've done practically nil with [Elven] tokens. This must be remedied! :fire:
[2]•I Have Done Better [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Each time a minion is killed or discarded in a skirmish involving an Elf, you may add an [Elven] token here.
Archery: Exert an Elf, discard this condition, and add [X] to make a Shadow player assign X wounds to minions (limit 4), where X is the number of [Elven] tokens here.
“‘...I make my tale twenty at the least. But that is only a few leaves in a forest.’”
As with several other [Elven] cards in this set, this is a sort of cousin to a similiar [Dwarven] card...in this case, I Am Content (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=319.15). That one didn't seem to be OP in people's eyes (though it did wounding in the skirmish rather than archery phase), so hopefully this one is alright in terms of balance as well. Not completely sure about that, though.... :-k
[2] Your Friends Are With You [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot Legolas, an [Elven] follower, or 2 Elves.
When you play this condition, you may add an [Elven] token here for each non-Elf companion you can spot.
Skirmish: Discard this condition or remove an [Elven] token from here to make a minion skirmishing an unbound companion strength -1.
“‘Do we leave Middle-earth to its fate? Do we let them stand alone?’”
I wanted to harken back to the main [Elven] token conditions from Towers Block--Agility and Strength of Arms--without just making another "remove an [Elven] token from here to make a minion skirmishing an Elf strength -1" condition. So I shook things up a little by encouraging mixing Elves with other companions, which you'd be likely to do in this set anyway.
And then there's reinforcement....
[2] Seek Some Arrows [Elven]
Event • Archery
Spot X Elf archers and make the fellowship archery -X (to a minimum of 0) to reinforce X [Elven] tokens.
“‘Two? I have done better, though now I must grope for spent arrows; all mine are gone.’”
Too much? Has ol' Uncle Dáin gone off the deep end?

BURNING WITH THE FLAME OF YOUTH! :fire:
[2]•I Have Done Better [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Each time a minion is killed or discarded in a skirmish involving an Elf, you may add an [Elven] token here.
Archery: Exert an Elf, discard this condition, and add [X] to make the Shadow player assign X wounds to minions, where X is the number of [Elven] tokens here.
“‘...I make my tale twenty at the least. But that is only a few leaves in a forest.’”
It's really kind of complicated. Maybe a bit too good, really (although it does force archers to skirmish, there's a lot that can, nowadays). I might just go with a Throne of Minas Tirith style text on the first part, and use the second part for something else... like removing 3 or so tokens
from ANY condition to exert guys or draw cards or something.
I just kinda re-wrote the card, but it seems a bit good as is. Like, compare to Ithilien Trap or something.
[2] Your Friends Are With You [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot 2 Elves.
Hmm. It's fine as-is, but to make it work with just Legolas, I might unique it and only spot 1
Elf to play.
[2] Seek Some Arrows [Elven]
Event • Archery
Spot X Elf archers and make the fellowship archery -X (to a minimum of 0) to reinforce an [Elven] token X times.
“‘Two? I have done better, though now I must grope for spent arrows; all mine are gone.’”
It's fine. I might make it able to reinforce X [elven] tokens, instead. But I guess it works either way.
It's interesting how you can transfer extra archery into strength by adding to stuff like Agility. I really like the idea, but not sure how balanced it would be. Hunter/Archers have enough power already. But I suppose it's fine, you DO have to have extra archery lying around to use it.
Excellent batch, Dain. I'm really liking this whole set of cards. :gp:

You know everytime you link to arwen undomiel.com i cant see it and im sure Thran cant either.
This could get out of hand, cap it at something sensible then depending on the limit you could cost it at 1.
[2] Your Friends Are With You [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot 2 Elves.
First you make a condition that makes each token awesome and valuable, and here not so much!
Archery > tokens so no i dont thnik youve gone nuts.
-
Tweaked the two conditions (and went back and did the same with I Am Content, for good measure). I have more cards at the ready, but would prefer another review or two before moving on....
-
[2]•I Have Done Better [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Each time a minion is killed or discarded in a skirmish involving an Elf, you may add an [Elven] token here.
Archery: Exert an Elf, discard this condition, and add [X] to make the Shadow player assign X wounds to minions (limit 4), where X is the number of [Elven] tokens here.
“‘...I make my tale twenty at the least. But that is only a few leaves in a forest.’”
I think I'd prefer something which added tokens for minions being killed in the archery phase then removing tokens for a skirmishy action. As it's currently written though, why doesn't it just add X to the fellowship archery total? And you've got to account for multiple Shadow players.
I think I'm with EL on this one.
I also agree with EL, I'd prefer it if it reinforced X [Elven] tokens. Cool card though.

Further tweaked. Thanks, Thran!
Not sure where SoP has vanished to (how used we get to each other's routines! :P), but I think I'll move on all the same.
Today, we shift our gaze briefly back at an area where Elves already excel: archery. Yes, these guys may !focus chiefly on skirmishing, but they haven't forgotten their roots. ;) Enjoy!
[2]•Líndal, Naith Archer [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
To play, spot an Elf.
Archery: Exert Líndal and remove an [Elven] token to make the fellowship archery total +1.
He had spent many long years hunting and patrolling the forests of the Golden Wood and was one of the most renowned archers in a race already known for their skill with the bow.
Basically Fereveldir for a different phase. The archery total increase can certainly be useful for several cards in this set, like this one:
[5] Dark For Archery [Elven]
Event • Archery
Toil 2.
Spot X Elf archers and make the fellowship archery total -X (to a minimum of 0) to discard X Shadow possessions or machines.
“‘But we have taught them not to carry torches.’”
Technically a Rohirrim quote, but hey, with no Elven warriors at Helm's Deep in the novel, I have to glean little bits like this from SOMEWHERE now, don't I?
Anyway, too powerful? This would obviously wreak havoc with corsairs, among others. Perhaps limit it to possessions borne by minions?
[2] His Bow Was Bent [Elven]
Event • Archery
Exert an Elf archer to wound a minion and prevent that minion from using special abilities until the regroup phase. Any Shadow player may make the fellowship archery total +2 to prevent this.
“...he peered out now, ready to shoot the first Orc that should dare to approach the stair.”
Not much to say about this one. Kind of like a "stun" arrow.

[2]•Líndal, Naith Archer [Elven]

Archery: Exert Líndal and remove an [Elven] token to exert a minion.
He had spent many long years hunting and patrolling the forests of the Golden Wood and was one of the most renowned archers in a race already known for their skill with the bow.
Yes it should just make the total +1. Specifically targeting characters should be reserved for special characters.
[2] Dark For Archery [Elven]
Event • Archery
Spot X Elf archers and make the fellowship archery total -X to discard X Shadow possessions.
“‘But we have taught them not to carry torches.’”
Blegh. Don't like the title. It just seems too abbreviated. I can't think of anything better presently.
You've got to be careful with reducing your own archery total since odd results can surface - see A Grey Ship. Use that card as a template to cap your card and it'll be good.

Wow. Hmm. Eh. It's fine.

Whoops. :-[ Silly mistake on my part. Fixed.
Made other tweaks as well, both here and in the [Isengard] thread. Thanks, man! :gp:

Further tweaked. Thanks, Thran!
Not sure where SoP has vanished to (how used we get to each other's routines! :P), but I think I'll move on all the same.
was busy yesterday, had to shovel snow this morning.

[2] Dark For Archery [Elven]
Event • Archery

“‘But we have taught them not to carry torches.’”
I don't think it needs to spot archers. Normally you'd only have 1 archery per archer anyways, and if you want to ramp up the total just to discard more possessions, well... I don't see a problem with it. Plus, most decks with few [elven] guys normally can't get the archery total too high anyway, so if you're worried about splashing too much...
Though I love corsairs, this is fine. The change would actually hurt corsairs more, since before they could just Marauder away all the bows....
Maybe you could let it discard machines, too (since they're usually conditions). Since 1) This card seems more Helm's Deep and thusly ought to be more anti- [isengard] than anti- [raider] and 2) Elven archers that couldn't see individual guys could probably shoot up some ladders or something. It makes flavor sense.
[2] His Bow Was Bent [Elven]

I don't know. Right now, it just seems so vastly superior to Nocked.

Good thought! I'll do that.

Yes, I had considered that, but on the other hand, this requires an archer, not just any old Elf. I dunno...it's close to overshadowing Nocked, but I think it manages to avoid negating the others' usefulness. We'll see what other reviewers have to say, though....
-
Let me say that EL's suggestion for Dark For Archery is wicked cool, and that I don't see Nocked being overshadowed here at all since it can't be prevented (which *does* make a substantial difference).

[2]•Líndal, Naith Archer [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6

Nice! I like it!
[2] Dark For Archery [Elven]
Event • Archery
Spot X Elf archers and make the fellowship archery total -X (to a minimum of 0) to discard X Shadow possessions or machines.
“‘But we have taught them not to carry torches.’”
This would kill Dunland decks and be very painful to raider decks. I think your suggestion ("born by a minion") would be a good one. If you discard Hides in a archery deck against dunland your opponent probably will just watch you walk around the sitepath. Corsairs would be dead too, since you can make the archery -3 or -4 and discard a lot of boats along with some halberd on Castamir while you prevent him from taking arrows and puting his enduring keyword to a good use... Southrons with mumaks and bows and Warg riders would still have problems, but at leats it limits the effectivenes of the card.
[2] His Bow Was Bent [Elven]

Exert an Elf archer to wound a minion and prevent that minion from using special abilities until the regroup phase. Any Shadow player may make the fellowship archery total +2 to prevent this.

I like the idea very much, it´s a little too powerful but i think it can work just fine

This guy is fine.
[2] Dark For Archery [Elven]
Event • Archery
Spot X Elf archers and make the fellowship archery total -X (to a minimum of 0) to discard X Shadow possessions or machines.
“‘But we have taught them not to carry torches.’”
This huge amount of possession discard is not something which I think should appear in the [Elven] culture. [Gondor] or [Rohan] fine, but Elves do not discard Shadow possessions (they just increase their twilight cost). Make it "discard X conditions or machines" and I would say it was a much more balanced and [Elven] card. Or increase the cost to represent the fact that it is not an [Elven] strength.
This is an interesting card. Might be a bit too complex, not sure if a simpler card more like Nocked does the same job.

Too good really, archery would not destroy machines so the flavour is wrong too. Maybe make the archery total -2 to discard a possession or machine.

Yeah coolio i like it.

Left the text of Dark For Archery alone--some people like it and some don't, it seems--but recognizing the controversy, I upped the cost and slapped some toil on it. How's that?
Moving on (especially since I missed yesterday entirely #-o), here are some cards that help out NON-Elves, since I want to encourage using Elves with other cultures (like [Rohan] and [Dwarven]) in this set. Enjoy!
(0) Ú-moe Edaved [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Exert a non-Elf companion to make an Elf strength +3 and resistance +2.
“‘Forgive me. I was wrong to despair.’”
Title translation: "there is nothing to forgive".
[1]•Mae Govannen [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Fellowship: Play an Elf or [Elven] follower to heal a companion and remove a threat.
“‘You are most welcome.’”
A critical card in this set since others like Blade of the Golden Wood, Naith Sword, and Weapons of Lothlórien add threats.
[1] Old Allegiance [Elven]
Condition
Tale. Bearer must be a Man companion. Bearer may not bear another [Elven] tale. Limit 1 per bearer.
Each minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1 for each [Elven] companion you can spot (limit -3).
“‘We are proud to fight alongside men once more.’”
One of my all time favorites (The Last Alliance of Elves and Men) reimagined...and not limited to just [Gondor] Men anymore, either. Remember how I said I wanted to tie [Elven] and [Rohan] together? You'll be seeing more on that soon. ;)
Anyway, should I raise its cost to [2]?
-
[1] Ú-moe Edaved [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Exert a non-Elf companion to make an Elf strength +3.
“‘Forgive me. I was wrong to despair.’”
Often, Valor would be better. It needs something more.
[1] Mae Govannen [Elven]
Event • Fellowship
Play an Elf to heal a companion and remove a threat.
“‘You are most welcome.’”
Hmm. Less useful, I think. Perhaps make it a unique condition. Then maybe you'd have to remove the healing, but probably not.
Interesting. But fine.
-
[1] Ú-moe Edaved [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Exert a non-Elf companion to make an Elf strength +3 and resistance +2.
“‘Forgive me. I was wrong to despair.’”
Resistance +2 extra isnt really worth making it cost 1 seeing as youre exerting. Still could cost 0.
[1] Mae Govannen [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Fellowship: Play an Elf or [Elven] follower to heal a companion and remove a threat. Discard this condition.
“‘You are most welcome.’”
Where have i seen this card title before? Its very one shot specific. I think if you make it unique and choose the threat or heal then you could remove the discard bit.
Seems ok.
-
[1] Ú-moe Edaved [Elven]
Event • Skirmish

“‘Forgive me. I was wrong to despair.’”
I would leave it at (0) without the +2 resistance bonus.
[1] Mae Govannen [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Fellowship: Play an Elf or [Elven] follower to heal a companion and remove a threat. Discard this condition.
“‘You are most welcome.’”
Yeah, fair enough. How about something that allows you to exert some Men to get this card back?
[1] Old Allegiance [Elven]
Condition
Tale. Bearer must be a Man companion. Bearer may not bear another [Elven] tale. Limit 1 per bearer.
Each minion skirmishing bearer is strength -1 for each [Elven] companion you can spot (limit -3).
“‘We are proud to fight alongside men once more.’”
You don't need the drawback - combining this with LAoEaM is awesome and doesn't need to be restricted. Could cost [2], but I don't think it needs to.

Nothing too fancy today. Just a couple more Elves that work with tokens. Enjoy!
[3]•Feleandier, Naith Commander [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 7
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
To play, spot an Elf.
Skirmish: Remove an [Elven] token to make a minion skirmishing an unbound Elf strength -1 (or -2 if that Elf has resistance 6 or more).
An experienced swordsman and Haldir's lieutentant at Helm's Deep, Feleandier led the heroic charge on the invading Uruk-hai after the wall was breached.
Certain participants in Realms of Middle-earth or other long-time CC RPGers may recognize the name. ;) This guy is very rare in that he's the ONLY Elf in the set thus far to cost more than [2]. More reason to consider Ordulus or Orolonn with their [1] cost along with this guy, perhaps...?
[2]•Elvarion, Naith Marksman [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 7
Hunter 1. To play, spot an Elf.
At the start of the archery phase, you may remove an [Elven] token to make Elvarion an archer until the regroup phase.
Long a scout and hunter in Lothlórien and under the gloomy canopy of Mirkwood, Elvarion had little problem finding targets in the stormy darkness of the Deeping-coomb.
We've already traded away archery for tokens with cards like Seek Some Arrows. Now we can turn tokens into archery, too!

[3]•Feleandier, Naith Commander [Elven]

An experienced swordsman and Haldir's lieutentant at Helm's Deep, Feleandier led the heroic charge on the invading Uruk-hai after the wall was breached.
Pretty nifty. However, I don't think there's been another companion that works so well at pumping with tokens, ever. Arwen, She-Elf, Aragorn, DoFP, and Gloin, SoG are all specific to themselves. Cards like Heavy Axe and Agility stop at -1. Unless you're facing corruption, the -2 is gonna be pretty easy to get. He probably wouldn't be too bad - it's just unprecedented.
[2]•Elvarion, Naith Marksman [Elven]

Maybe drop his resistance by 1.
Anyways, I love the guy. He turns tokens into archery without being too powerful.

I upped it to resistance 6 or more for the second part, which puts it a little more out of reach. Hopefully makes it slightly more balanced.

Fair enough. I think I'd prefer rather than a small bonus for anyone to have a large bonus only for him which seems to be more fitting of some random guy who we don't care about.

Yeah he doesn't need resistance 7. On the other hand, he's probably not OP as he is.

6 is probably better...though I think just leave it at -1 and cut the second part.
elvarion is fine.

Even MORE token stuff to bring in the new year. Enjoy!
[2]•Lamalas, Naith Sentry [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 5
Vitality: 3
Resistance: 6
Hunter 1.
Lamalas is strength +1 for each [Elven] condition that has a culture token on it.
Lamalas had long stood watch atop the flets of Caras Galadhon before finding himself standing atop the Deeping Wall, watching for the Uruks' approach.
Simple but effective, eh? Should he start with 5 strength?
[2]•Warriors of Old [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot 2 Elves.
Each time you play a possession on your Elf, you may add an [Elven] token here.
Skirmish: Remove 2 [Elven] tokens from here to make a companion bearing an [Elven] weapon gain berserker 1.
Armed and armored as they had not been since the latter wars of the Second Age, the Naith warriors at Helm's Deep harkened back to the very height of the age of Elves in Middle-earth.
Berserker X. (This character is strength +X for each wound on each character in its skirmish.)
Not overly keen about the title, but I was struggling to come up with something better. Any suggestions? ???
I had a lot of fun designing this one, though. Brings the fighting fury of the Elves to bear, while sticking with their well-established love of wounded minions and--as of this set--weapons. Personally, I like how it all ties together nicely here. Sometimes these DCs just write themselves. :)
[1] Dago Hon! [Elven]
Event • Archery
Exert an Elf archer to reinforce or remove 2 culture tokens; he or she does not add to the fellowship archery total.
“‘Bring him down, Legolas!’”
Very nice for reinforcing your own tokens (in the same vein as Seek Some Arrows, which also turns archery into tokens), but also nasty in how it can bugger up your opponent's tokens...like those found on machines, perhaps?
-
[2]•Warriors of Old [Elven]

How about Armed for War? :P

[2]•Lamalas, Naith Sentry [Elven]
Companion • Elf
Strength: 4
I think he should start with 5. Perhaps his ability does need a cap, though. I think he needs to be a little less Pippin and little more Gloin.
[2]•Warriors of Old [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
To play, spot 2 Elves.
Each time you play a possession on your Elf, you may add an [Elven] token here.

Armed and armored as they had not been since the latter wars of the Second Age, the Naith warriors at Helm's Deep harkened back to the very height of the age of Elves in Middle-earth.
I understand why it's restricted, but I really think that since it's unique and rather more difficult to put tokens on, it doesn't need to be limited to once per skirmish. I mean, your guys need to be seriously wounded to make this work to full potential anyways.
[2] Dago Hon! [Elven]
Event • Archery
Exert an Elf archer to reinforce or remove 2 culture tokens; he or she does not add to the fellowship archery total.
“‘Bring him down, Legolas!’”
I really like it. However, I'd like to see some reinforcement that doesn't center on archery as much.

Why is the skirmish action so limited? I would either make it 1 token with the limit or 2 tokens without limit. Or make it non-unique.
[2] Dago Hon! [Elven]
Event • Archery
Exert an Elf archer to reinforce or remove 2 culture tokens; he or she does not add to the fellowship archery total.
“‘Bring him down, Legolas!’”
Yeah it's fine, but EL's right, reinforcing doesn't have to focus on archery. Though maybe that's a good thing to restriction [Elven] reinforcement.

Flets: http://www.tuckborough.net/otherbuildings.html#Flets (http://www.tuckborough.net/otherbuildings.html#Flets)
Anyway, I tweaked Lamalas and Dago Hon!, as recommended. Lamalas might be a touch powerful now, but the reviews were mixed on whether to go with 4 or 5 strength, so I opted to go with the more fun option.
I'm kind of in a rut with Helm's Deep Elves right now--it's so hard when you have ONLY the film to rely on for material!--so on to something else for the time being.
Other than those Elves at Helm's Deep, the Fellowship's contact with Elves is pretty much non-existant in The Two Towers. Yes, their presense is felt, especially by Aragorn during his dreams, but there is no direct contact. So while old favorites like Elrond, Arwen, and Galadriel make their mark, they don't make much sense as companions in this set. Allies are even a bit of a stretch, since allies are usually still characters that cross paths with the companions but don't really travel with them. So what does that leave? One of few things I have to thank the later Decipher sets for....

While bearing Elrond, bearer gains the Elrond signet.
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, you may heal a companion bearing an [Elven] follower or [Elven] tale.
“‘An alliance once existed between Elves and Men. Long ago we fought and died together....’”
Yep...followers. Tough to balance such a costly follower as Elrond, so I decided to give him some serious benefits. He initially had a spotting requirement of spotting an Elf or an [Elven] follower, but I opted to drop that, instead making him an easy way to set things up for your other Elves and [Elven] followers. The only thing I'm not really happy with is his lore. It's not even spoken by him! But none of the lines he actually utters in the film seem to fit, either. Hmmmm. Any ideas?

The lore HERE was easy. ;) Her actual text is certainly above average for a follower, but I figured that the strict spotting requirements helped make up for that. Agreed?

As long-time reviewers know, I HATE designing Galadriel cards. I've just never really grasped her like I have other characters. But I think I've borrowed from past versions here with a little resistance, a little card drawing, and a little possession/artifact love, mixed with a little token manipulation into one super-follower.

I love seeing followers that aren't minor characters! I think you should make him cheaper, he has a serious case of twilightitis that renders him a bit useless. I'd probably give him some culture specificness, ie- "Each time you attach Elrond to a non [elvish] companion add [3]" or something like that. So, cut his cost to [2] and add the culture penalty and he should be fine. ;D

I know it's restrictive, but I'm reluctant to change the cost. It's already a major change to go from a companion/ally to a follower...I wanted SOMETHING to feel familiar about him. If anything, I'd be more open to reducing his aid cost. But I'll wait and see what other reviewers say....

True, and I certainly see the merits in occasional vitality bonuses on followers. (The [Gandalf] culture (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1450.0) has a prime example in this set, actually.) Rarely would I create three prominent followers and give them ALL resistance bonuses, but in this case, with these three characters, it makes perfect sense to me. It's because of those characters, and not just because they're [Elven] followers, that I chose to slap a resistance boost onto all of them.
I might consider a viality boost on Elrond...what do you think?

He may cost [4] but he is darn powerful. I think I would reduce his aid cost to [1] but would prefer if some part of his bonus was lost as well like the resistance bonus or the exerting a minion option (which makes a lot less sense than healing).

Okay, I went back and rewrote all three to varying degrees. Arwen and Galadriel have seen the most extensive rewrites, Arwen because she was too good before and Galadriel because I wanted to make all three more thematic and better tie her in with today's trio of cards....
[1] The Lady's Message [Elven]
Condition
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be a ranger. Limit 1 per bearer.
Bearer gains hunter 1.
The site number of each minion skirmishing bearer is +1 for each Free Peoples culture you can spot.
“‘Where now are the Dúnedain, Elessar, Elessar? / Why do thy kinsfolk wander afar? / Near is the hour when the Lost should come forth, / And the Grey Company ride from the North.’”
This works just fine with [Gondor] or [Elven] rangers (or even the small handful of (G) rangers and one particular [Gandalf] ranger I have throughout my sets), but with the text it's probably best with [Gondor].
As you'll see with these cards, they generally complement something these characters already do well, adding a little incentive for tossing Elves (and specifically Galadriel and the new [Elven] followers) in with fellowships where they might not normally appear.
[1] The Lady's Comfort [Elven]
Condition
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be an unbound Elf companion. Limit 1 per bearer.
While at a sanctuary, forest, or river site, bearer gains hunter 1 and is resistance +1.
“‘NOLINKLegolas Greenleaf long under tree / In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea! / If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, / Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more.’”
Not much new to say here. I didn't realize until after I finished that this was awfully similiar to Legolas CotR, but that's purely incidental, I assure you.
[1] The Lady's Greeting [Elven]
Condition
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be a Dwarf. Limit 1 per bearer.
If bearer is Gimli, he is resistance +1 (and strength +1 if at a forest or river site).
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, you may draw a card (or 2 cards if bearer is a hunter).
“‘Lock-bearer, wherever thou goest my thought goes with thee. But have a care to lay thine axe to the right tree!’”
Again, thematic with something Dwarves are already well-known to be proficient in. I figured that 2 cards would be okay since this is the skirmish rather than fellowship phase we're talking about, and there aren't a ton of [Dwarven] hunters anyway...even in my sets!
Oh, and certainly if you have time to go back and look at the three followers from the last post, please do so. They're basically new cards now, and I'm tempted to even repost them.... :-k
-
You need to add a clause on the new Galadriel so that you have to reveal the card to get the token stuff - otherwise you could be cheating! ;) I like them all better now, by the way.
[2]•The Lady's Message [Elven]
Condition
Resistance +1
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be a ranger.
I want this to do less and be non-unique (with a limit 1 per bearer) - I want this card on Arwen, Aragorn, Glorfindel, Elladan & Elrohir, Halbarad etc. not just 1 of them. I think I'd take out the resistance bonus. Then, this card is the building block of an [Elven] / [Gondor] ranger deck, and that's awesome, but with only 1 of this card it doesn't quite have the same effect.
[2]•The Lady's Comfort [Elven]
Condition
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be an unbound Elf companion.
While at a sanctuary, forest, or river site, bearer gains hunter 2 and is resistance +2.
“‘NOLINKLegolas Greenleaf long under tree / In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea! / If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, / Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more.’”
Again I want this to do less and be non-unique (again with a limit 1 per bearer). Hunter 1 and resistance +1 would be fine in that case, and I think it's not such a huge problem for the card to be on Galadriel (though with resistance +2, it would be a much bigger problem I feel).
[2]•The Lady's Greeting [Elven]
Condition
Resistance +1
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be a Dwarf.
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, you may draw a card (or 2 cards if bearer is a hunter).
“‘Lock-bearer, wherever thou goest my thought goes with thee. But have a care to lay thine axe to the right tree!’”
This one's alright, doesn't need to cost [2]. And why any Dwarf? For this one I would just go ahead and say: "Bearer must be Gimli" and leave it unique.

[2] The Lady's Message [Elven]
Condition
I'm sort of agreeing with Thran - but I've never liked cards played on companions that cost more than 1 for any effect - save really good ones like Anduril. Since this only benefits multi-culture and yet has a pretty solid [elven] spotting requirement, I'd lose unique and drop the cost to [1], then tag on a limit one per bearer. If you feel it'd be too good, then it can do without the resistance bonus.
[2] The Lady's Comfort [Elven]
Condition
Again, I'd love a more balanced way to make this cost [1]. It might be able to manage it now. But I don't know. I can' tell you're going for a cycle of [2]-costing stuff here, but I don't think I'd use them as they are.
[2] The Lady's Greeting [Elven]
Condition
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be a Dwarf. Limit 1 per bearer.
If bearer is Gimli, he is strength +1 and resistance +1.
Each time bearer wins a skirmish, you may draw a card (or 2 cards if bearer is a hunter).
“‘Lock-bearer, wherever thou goest my thought goes with thee. But have a care to lay thine axe to the right tree!’”
Hmm. If you dropped the hunter clause, then maybe this could cost [1]. But this is one I honestly like as-is.
-
As a FP player, I have no huge problem paying [2] for stuff on my companions because you can always do it. On the other hand there is something to be said for EL's thoughts on how to make each of those conditions cost [1] which might make them particularly awesome.

“‘Where now are the Dúnedain, Elessar, Elessar? / Why do thy kinsfolk wander afar? / Near is the hour when the Lost should come forth, / And the Grey Company ride from the North.’”

Not quite as useful as the previous so im not sure id bother packing any of these in a deck for 2 cost.
[2] The Lady's Greeting [Elven]
Condition
Tale. To play, spot 2 [Elven] followers (or Galadriel). Bearer must be a Dwarf. Limit 1 per bearer.

Fine as obviously youd only bother playing it on gimli.
-
What would you suggest to get them all down to [1]? I think The Lady's Comfort can probably get away with it without any rewriting, and The Lady's Greeting likely can by dropping the Gimli line, but what about The Lady's Message? I'm loathe to drop the hunter bonus since it's a theme with the others...but if I don't I don't see how I can reduce it to [1]. Perhaps leave it the sole exception at [2] since it's particularly useful?
-

With the hefty spotting requirement and limited bearer of The Lady's Message, I think your job could be done! ;) I also don't think you should lose all the Gimli-ness of The Lady's Greeting, maybe only lose the resistance bonus.

Okay, they all now cost [1]. For Gimli, I preserved the resistance bonus instead (since that was one of the main points of the card...it's especially nice with Gimli BoG, eh? ;)) and made the strength conditional on some unusual-for-Dwarves conditions. How're they now?
Finally, Galadriel cards I'd really consider using!

I would also include Galadriel in the list of characters - after all she's Arwen's grandmother and is very important to both Aragorn and Arwen. This card is fine, but I've always loved the burritos following specific bloodlines and would love a Kings' Legacy type card for Elrond, Arwen and Aragorn.
[2] A Good Dream [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Transfer an [Elven] follower from an unbound companion to your support area to heal that companion (and remove a burden or a threat if that companion has resistance 6 or more).
“‘You told me once this day would come.’”
Pretty good, I like this card.
[1] Still Hope [Elven]
Event • Response
If a burden or wound is about to be added by a Shadow card, spot Arwen or Elrond to prevent that. Then you may discard 2 cards from hand to shuffle this event into your draw deck.
“‘This is not the end...it is the beginning.’”
Interesting, though wounds are not "added" so that's a bit unclear. Not sure I'd use it in a deck, but it's cool. For ultra-usability, I would make the trigger "If a burden is about to added...".

[2]•NOLINKGift of the Evenstar, Symbol of Trust [Elven]
Artifact • Pendant
Resistance +1
To play, spot Arwen. Bearer must be Aragorn.
The aid cost of each [Elven] follower transferred to Aragorn is -1 (or -2 if that follower is Arwen or Elrond).
Each time Aragorn wins a skirmish, you may exert Arwen (or transfer her to your support area if Arwen is a follower) to heal Aragorn or another Elf.
“‘Ae ú-esteliach nad...estelio han. Estelio ammen.’”
what if the aid cost is add 2 burdens? or exertions?
Fortunately, all [Elven] followers in Decipher's sets AND my own DC sets have an aid cost of twilight, and twilight only. Trust me...I checked. I'll just have to make sure that continues, and then we've got no problems.
You should never struggle to DIMINISH design space.

“‘Ae ú-esteliach nad...estelio han. Estelio ammen.’”
How does the aid reduction work as far as you see Dain? What if its threats or exerting a companion? O and because its insanely specific it could cost 1 easily.
[2]•Arwen's Choice [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale. When you play this condition, add an [Elven] token here for each of the following you can spot: Arwen, Elrond, Aragorn.
Response: If Aragorn or an Elf is about to take a wound, remove an [Elven] token from here or discard this condition to prevent that wound.
“‘I have made my choice....’”
My only concern is you could play this in a pure elf deck and reinforce it like a fruit cake and then your elves never die.
[2] A Good Dream [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Transfer an [Elven] follower from an unbound companion to your support area to heal that companion (and remove a burden or a threat if that companion has resistance 6 or more).
“‘You told me once this day would come.’”
Thats fine. Though as always a threat does not equal a burden.

Event • Response

“‘This is not the end...it is the beginning.’”
Nice.

Alright, I removed Arwen's Choice from the list (for now, at least) because it seems most folks want a "Legacy" type card instead, and the one person that didn't said it was potentially too powerful. :P
I also tweaked Symbol of Trust as Thran recommended. FM makes a very good point: restricting design space is the exact OPPOSITE of what I try to do.
:gp: to all. New cards (and hopefully a retooled Arwen's Choice) should be up shortly.
-
Okay, sorry for the delay there. I've got a bevy of new and (in my humble opinion) pretty cool cards to finish off this little Elven detour into Elrond/Arwen/Galadriel stuff. First, we start with our completely revamped Arwen's Choice:
[2]•Arwen's Choice [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Fellowship: Exert Aragorn to play Arwen from your discard pile; Arwen's twilight cost is -1.
Maneuver: Discard Arwen to take NOLINKGift of the Evenstar into hand from your draw deck or discard pile.
Skirmish: Discard Arwen or NOLINKGift of the Evenstar to make Aragorn or Arwen strength +3.
“‘I have made my choice....’”
I love versatility, and this is one of the most versatile cards I've made to date. If you have Aragorn and Arwen around, this card can do all manner of things. Need strength? You got it. Need to set things up with NOLINKGift of the Evenstar? This can do that, too. Need to unclog your hand and/or save on twilight a bit? No problem: discard Arwen from your hand rather than playing her, then bring her out with the fellowship ability when you're in a better position to do so. This card bounces Arwen around to frustrate the heck out of your opponent. Is she staying or leaving? You can never be too sure, just like in the films. ;) Versatility AND flavor? Yeah, I'm happy with how this turned out.
Now the ALL-all-new new stuff....
[2] A Greater Power [Elven]
Event
Spell.
Maneuver: Spot Elrond or Galadriel to spot a minion; that minion cannot use special abilities until the regroup phase.
Response: If a Shadow event is played, spot Elrond or Galadriel to cancel that event.
“‘...he had a power over the minds of others. The wise he could persuade, and the smaller folk he could daunt. That power he certainly still keeps. There are not many in Middle-earth that I should say were safe...Elrond, and Galadriel, perhaps, now that his wickedness has been laid bare, but very few others.’”
Once again, versatility. Too expensive, though?
[2]•Noldorian Legacy [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Each time Gil-galad wins a skirmish, make a minion assigned to an [Elven] or [Gondor] companion strength -2 until the regroup phase.
Each time Elrond (or a character bearing Elrond) wins a skirmish, heal an Elf.
Each time Arwen (or a character bearing Arwen) wins a skirmish, draw a card. If that card is an [Elven] card, you may exert a minion.
You asked for a Kings' Legacy-type, and I am a Dwarf of the people. Here it is, a very close copy of KL itself. Perhaps not overly creative, but cool? I'd like to think so. 8-)
This intentionally has no lore, as a nod to Kings' Legacy and Stewards' Legacy. The same is true of the next card, which ALSO harkens back to a well-known [Gondor] condition....
[4]•Elven Council [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale. When you play this condition, add an [Elven] token here for each of the following you can spot: Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Arwen.
Fellowship: Remove an [Elven] token from here to examine the top X cards of your draw deck, where X is the number of [Elven] tokens remaining here.
Maneuver: Remove an [Elven] token from here to heal a companion with the Elrond signet or bearing an [Elven] card.
Regroup: Remove an [Elven] token from here to reinforce another [Elven] token.
A distant relative of Noble Leaders...on crack. :P Forget the versatility of Arwen's Choice: this takes the cake. No, this takes the entire confectionery shop! Doing some of what each of the four listed characters is good at and mixing it all together makes for a staple card in nearly every [Elven] deck...provided such a deck includes several of the listed Elves and/or good token reinforcement. Surprise, surprise: using the three [Elven] followers in this set meet BOTH of those requirements....
- Play the follower Elrond, Lord of Imladris and use his text to pull Arwen, Lady of Rivendell, Galadriel, Lady in the Golden Wood, or Elven Council from your deck. Whichever one you need at the time.
- Once you have all three followers and Elven Council out, go nuts.
-- Elrond, Arwen, and the Council heal like crazy. Consider this: transfer Arwen to someone bearing an [Elven] tale or [Elven] artifact to heal them. Then you can remove tokens from the Council to heal them even more. Then, if they win a skirmish, you can use Elrond to heal them (or another eligible companion) AGAIN. Wowzer!
-- Galadriel chips in by reinforcing tokens on Elven Council using her "each time Galadriel is transferred" ability. And she, of course, can get the three already-posted "The Lady's _______" conditions (which happen to be [Elven] tales ;)) onto companions to make them eligible for all this other fun.
Yeah, I'm very happy with how this has all turned out. Sometimes these things just flow. This is why I still love DCing after years of doing it.
One more note: I went back and made one little change to the Elrond follower: the bearer now gains his signet. I realized this was a prime opportunity to use it, since I introduced his signet two sets ago.
-
Okay, sorry for the delay there. I've got a bevy of new and (in my humble opinion) pretty cool cards to finish off this little Elven detour into Elrond/Arwen/Galadriel stuff. First, we start with our completely revamped Arwen's Choice:

Tale.

Maneuver: Discard Arwen to take NOLINKGift of the Evenstar into hand from your draw deck or discard pile.
Skirmish: Discard Arwen or NOLINKGift of the Evenstar to make Aragorn or Arwen strength +3.
“‘I have made my choice....’”
uh...ok. purty cool.
[3] A Greater Power [Elven]
Event
2 would be fine.
[2]•Noldorian Legacy [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Each time Gil-galad wins a skirmish, make an [Elven] or [Gondor] companion strength +2 until the regroup phase.
Each time Elrond (or a character bearing Elrond) wins a skirmish, heal an Elf.
Each time Arwen (or a character bearing Arwen) wins a skirmish, draw a card. If that card is an [Elven] card, you may exert a minion.
fine. I'd like some more elven things thought, maybe tokens?
[4]•Elven Council [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale. When you play this condition, add an [Elven] token here for each of the following you can spot: Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Arwen.
Fellowship: Remove an [Elven] token from here to examine the top X cards of your draw deck, where X is the number of [Elven] tokens remaining here.
Maneuver: Remove an [Elven] token from here to heal a companion with the Elrond signet or bearing an [Elven] card.
Regroup: Remove an [Elven] token from here to reinforce another [Elven] token.
wowza. I'm trying to figure out whether 4 is too much or too litt.e
-
[2]•Arwen's Choice [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Fellowship: Exert Aragorn to play Arwen from your discard pile; Arwen's twilight cost is -1.
Maneuver: Discard Arwen to take NOLINKGift of the Evenstar into hand from your draw deck or discard pile.
Skirmish: Discard Arwen or NOLINKGift of the Evenstar to make Aragorn or Arwen strength +3.
“‘I have made my choice....’”
I think it would be better if the fellowship ability could fetch Arwen as well (and possibly then miss the twilight reduction). Then it's cool. I would also strive to make a version of Aragorn whose twilight cost is -2 while you can spot Arwen so that you could start both.
I think I would replace the second "spot" with "choose". Otherwise, I think this is fine.
I didn't want particularly a Kings' Legacy card, just a bloodline card (like Stewards' Legacy, Wells of Deep Memory etc.). And also I think these are the wrong 3 for a Noldorian bloodlines card given that neither Elrond nor Arwen are actually of the Noldor - in order to be Noldor, you basically need to have seen the lights of the Trees (or be closely descended from one who has like Gil-galad). So I would take Gil-galad, Galadriel and Glorfindel (I'm having trouble thinking up more Noldor that have cards already, but those are definites). Or, I would call the card something else and follow the Elrond/Arwen/Aragorn bloodline who after all are all related (Aragorn being Elrond's great x100 nephew!). I just don't think Gil-galad/Elrond/Arwen makes sense as a bloodline.
Certainly interesting. I think the cost is absolutely fine seeing as Elves love expensive cards anyway. I would, however, simplify the fellowship ability to reveal a fixed number of cards (say 4) just to save space on the card.
Thranduil

[2]•Arwen's Choice [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
Fellowship: Exert Aragorn to play Arwen from your discard pile; Arwen's twilight cost is -1.
Maneuver: Discard Arwen to take NOLINKGift of the Evenstar into hand from your draw deck or discard pile.
Skirmish: Discard Arwen or NOLINKGift of the Evenstar to make Aragorn or Arwen strength +3.
“‘I have made my choice....’”
The maneuver isnt really worth doing. Otherwise its ok-ish.
Ive always liked cancelling cards but everyone always moans they hand clog, which is why i presume you did the first bit? I love this card therefore, cos i think im one of the few who actually liked and used board is set. Good.
Id make the gil galad bonus lesser cos its really easy for him to win. Apart from that cool.
I dont think you need the word remaining as once the token is removed to pay the cost it cant be spotted as part of X. I like the card. Very cool. Maybe 3 cost?
-
[2]•Arwen's Choice [Elven]
You mean you'd prefer the fellowship ability to ALSO be able to grab Arwen from the deck? Hmmm. :-k My only worry then is that you could easily toss in four versions of Arwen and then use Aragorn to pull whichever one you need, discarding the others and mixing and matching as you wish. And that's not quite the point. If you don't think that'd be an issue, let me know and I can change it.

I just don't think Gil-galad/Elrond/Arwen makes sense as a bloodline.
All good points. Technically, Elrond and Arwen may not be Noldorian Elves, but they are definately part of the same lineage as Gil-galad and many of the other Noldor (including all the High Kings): the House of Finwë. So I think the "legacy" they carry definately harkens back to the Noldorians, even if they can't quite be counted among their number.
I had strongly considered Elrond/Arwen/Aragorn instead, but since Aragorn already appears on both Kings' Legacy and Noble Leaders, I figured he had enough cards like this already. Gil-galad has diddly squat, even though just-as-often-appearing Elendil gets both Kings' Legacy and Crown of Gondor to play with. I think it's high time the last High King of the Noldor gets in on the action.
Id make the gil galad bonus lesser cos its really easy for him to win. Apart from that cool.
True enough, but if Elendil gets it, I think Gil-galad should as well. On second thought, though, I think I WILL tweak it a little to be more Elvish. ;)
Thanks for the comments, guys. Anything else?
-
If there are any more comments on the last cards, feel free to jump on 'em. In the meantime, in the interests of trying to catch lem0n before he logs off for the day :P, we're going to transition into [Elven] hunter stuff now, just as we did for the [Dwarven] culture (Helm's Deep, then Three Hunters).
First, a repost of our Three Hunters version of Legolas:
[2]•Legolas, From Distant Mirkwood (G) (re-post)
And a repost of a condition that has already appeared in the [Gondor] and [Dwarven] cultures:
[2]•NOLINKA Marvel Among the Three Kindreds [Elven] (re-post)
Condition • Support Area
Tale.
While Aragorn and Legolas each bear a ranged weapon and are each hunters, the fellowship archery total is +1.
While Legolas and Gimli each bear a hand weapon and are each hunters, they are each damage +1.
While Gimli and Aragorn each bear a weapon and are each hunters, they are each strength +1.
“‘With hope or without hope we will follow the trail of our enemies. And woe to them, if we prove the swifter!’”
And now, a couple possessions that tie the follower stuff up with a bow and...well, a bow of a different kind that slides us into hunting. ;) Enjoy!
(0) Horn of the Galadhrim [Elven]
Possession • Horn
Bearer must be an unbound Elf.
Skirmish: Exert bearer and discard a card from hand to make a minion skirmishing an unbound companion strength -1 (or -2 if the discarded card is an Elf or [Elven] follower) until the regroup phase.
“‘NOLINKThat is no orc horn....’”
[1]•NOLINKBow of the Galadhrim, Great Bow of Lórien [Elven]
Possession • Ranged Weapon
Strength +1
Bearer must be Legolas.
While the fellowship is at a battleground, forest, or plains site, Legolas gains hunter 1.
Each time another hunter companion wins a skirmish, you may exert Legolas to wound a minion in that skirmish.
“Legolas sat above on the NOLINKparapet, fingering his bow, and peering out into the gloom.”

LOL predictable much? Im going in 5 minutes and keep waiting here for new DC's til i go. The symbiosis is a beautiful harmony DI!

Its ok, would struggle justifying using this over the others cos Legy never really tanks.

Solid.

I still contest that Elrond is even part of the House of Finwe. Yes he has some relations to Gil-galad (like a cousin once removed or something) but he also has ancesters from the Edain, the Teleri and so many other different groups that I would not call him Noldorian. Arwen you can make a stronger case for as being the granddaughter of Galadriel, but I'm really not convinced.
Actually, I don't really care about that - my main problem is that it just feels to me like Gil-galad, Elrond and Arwen are a bit of a weird 3 to choose. I would much prefer Gil-galad, Elrond and Glorfindel as 3 Elves who took part in the Last Alliance, for example, and who all can claim Noldorian heritage.

I don't like all thast hunter bonus on a single card that costs [1]. I would prefer hunter 1 if at a battleground or forest site and a more useful second ability.

Okay, I may reconsider on Noldorian Legacy. I'll revisit that before the culture is over.
For now, I revamped Great Bow of Lórien. How is it now?
While you consider that, here's some new stuff as we fully immerse ourselves in [Elven] hunting. Enjoy!
[3] Light Feet Run Swiftly [Elven]
Event • Response
If the fellowship moves during the regroup phase, spot an Elf hunter to heal each hunter companion.
“They went in single file, running like hounds on a strong scent, and an eager light was in their eyes.”
Too good?
[1] The Green Smell [Elven]
Event • Fellowship
If the fellowship is at a forest, river, or plains site, heal an Elf hunter. Then you may add [2] to place this event on top of your draw deck.
“Legolas took a deep breath, like one that drinks a great draught after long thirst in barren places.”
Recycled healing, at the cost of slight deck clog. On the plus side, it's a way to guarantee an [Elven] card is on top of your deck....
-
You seriously need to change the title of that second one... I about fell out of my chair when I first read it. Something like "Woodland Breeze" or something like that. The Green Smell...
-
Hey, blame Tolkien, not me. :P
At the bottom they came with a strange suddenness on the grass of Rohan. It swelled like a green sea up to the very foot of the Emyn Muil. The falling stream vanished into a deep growth of cresses and water-plants, and they could hear it tinkling away in green tunnels, down long gentle slopes towards the fens of Entwash Vale far away. They seemed to have left winter clinging to the hills behind. Here the air was softer and warmer, and faintly scented, as if spring was already stirring and the sap was flowing again in herb and leaf. Legolas took a deep breath, like one that drinks a great draught after long thirst in barren places.
'Ah! the green smell!' he said. 'It is better than much sleep. Let us run!'

I like the new bow.

Maybe heal each hunter companion? And yes, this I think should cost [3] minimum.

It's alright. I would say it was a balanced card. Title is pretty bad, though to be honest I didn't notice it until GT just pointed it out!

You know, I had it at "each hunter companion" and changed it last minute, thinking that the potential for inadvertently healing hunter minions might help balance it a bit more. But I like [3]/hunter companions better.

Event • Response
If the fellowship moves during the regroup phase, spot an Elf hunter to heal each hunter companion.
“They went in single file, running like hounds on a strong scent, and an eager light was in their eyes.”
Too good?
Possibly, but its costly and hand cloggy so might be ok.
Cool i like it, though id remove plains.

Today we've got a couple cards to help splash Elf hunters in with other hunters (like a certain THREE Hunters, perhaps? ;)). Enjoy!
[1] NOLINKTireless and Swift [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Spot a hunter Elf companion and a hunter Man companion to return a wounded minion to its owner's hand.
“‘Light feet may run swiftly here. More swiftly, maybe, than iron-shod Orcs. Now we have a chance to lessen their lead!’”
A cousin to cards like Quick As May Be (tying together Elves and Dwarves) and my own No Vain Pursuit (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1450.0) (tying together Dwarves and rangers). This one is slightly more specific, since it's limited to hunters rather than any ol' Elf and Man, but I figured that with [Gondor] and [Elven] already having several cards that link them, this one should be a bit more specialized. It IS pretty darn powerful, after all....
[1]•Silent Ones [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Stealth. To play, spot an Elf.
While you can spot more hunter companions than minions, the twilight cost of each Shadow event is +1.
Skirmish: Discard this condition and exert an Elf hunter companion to cancel a skirmish involving that companion.
“‘Have you sprung out of the grass? How did you NOLINKescape our sight? Are you elvish folk?’”
Elves like making Shadow stuff cost more, and this in particular recaptures a little of the flavor lost when Dauntless Hunter was X-ed. It also does something the [Elven] stealth of The Road Ahead did: cancel skirmishes.
-
[1] NOLINKTireless and Swift [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Spot an Elf companion and a hunter Man companion to make a Shadow player return a wounded minion to its owner's hand.
“‘Light feet may run swiftly here. More swiftly, maybe, than iron-shod Orcs. Now we have a chance to lessen their lead!’”
Seems a little too complicated. Cards like that never make the final cut for any good deck- they are doomed to rest forever at the bottom of collections, dusty and unused. Its not so much about its UP-ness or OP-ness, its just about its general usefulness.

Skirmish: Discard this condition and exert an Elf hunter to cancel a skirmish involving a hunter companion.

Now that is good. I could easily seeing that being used. Looks like fun
Don't make them too complicated... [-X

“‘Light feet may run swiftly here. More swiftly, maybe, than iron-shod Orcs. Now we have a chance to lessen their lead!’”
I think it's not THAT powerful, it's actually fairly ok. Sure, it helps a double hugely by dodging a huge minion AND clogging their hand, but let's face it, you have to jump through SOME hoops to make it work, specially if they see it coming.

“‘Have you sprung out of the grass? How did you NOLINKescape our sight? Are you elvish folk?’”
I'm not really fond of this one, I have to say. I think it'd be more than enough to cancel the skirmish involving THAT companion (after all the ELVES are the silent ones, not anyone around them). I like the flavor of the first ability, though. Sure, they can play strength bonuses at no increased cost most of the times, but that's because the minions already FOUND the hunters. Events to lower costs, otoh, will cost more, since that depicts the elves stealthing by. Loved it. However, I think the spotting requirement is overkill, it takes unnecessary space on the card, after all, WHY ON EARTH would you play this with no hunters in sight? Sure, you could use the first line in a non-elf deck, but seriously, that wouldn't be very good now would it?
-
I agree with FM on Silent Ones. At least when it comes to the second ability - I think it should only work for the exerted companion.

well, hunters are generally quiet...except for gimli ;)

Fun...four reviews and Thran and lem0n are not part of them! I love when reviewers come out of the woodwork. Gold for all! :gp:
I tweaked Silent Ones a bit. Better?
-
Q, is it more hunter companions than hunter minions, or more hunter companions than minions? the grammar is fuzzy
-
It's not, actually, since it's a keyword, it would have to be repeated, so it's more hunter companions than MINIONS, as it is at least. But that IS a good question, was this the intention?
Also, I missed a bit of the first card, and NOW I think it sucks. You should allow the Free Peoples player to choose WHICH minion gets returned.

I agree with FM, I think the second ability should exert an Elf hunter to cancel a skirmish involving that companion.

But don't you think it should be targeted? I mean, you have to go through SOME hoops to even target what you want, having to make it wounded either before the next maneuver (and surviving) or wounding it with maneuver cards.
-
Liking my titles lately? :P
Ahem. I tweaked the last two cards. NOLINKTireless and Swift now targets the minion yourself (at the expense of both the Man AND the Elf needing to be hunters) and I finally relented on Silent Ones: the skirmish ability now works only for Elf hunters.
A batch of new, random cards today that encourage some Elf hunter splashing. Enjoy!
(0) Stands NOLINKNot Alone [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Exert an unbound Elf to make another unbound companion strength +1 for each of the following that is true: that unbound companion is a hunter; that Elf is a hunter; that Elf bears a weapon; that Elf is not assigned to a skirmish.
Legolas' bow quickly joined the weapons of the other members of the Fellowship when raised in battle.
Unfortunately, the "you would die before your stroke fell!" lore was already taken by this set's Legolas, From Distant Mirkwood (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1312.0). So the lore here is kind of lame...but hopefully the card itself isn't. Should provide +3 very easily and +4 with minimal work. Remember that [Elven] weapons are already big in this set, so....
(0) Feel The Tenseness [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Spot 3 hunters and exert an Elf hunter to reveal an opponent's hand. That opponent must remove [1] or a threat for each Shadow card revealed.
“He stood under the eaves of the forest, stooping forward, as if he were listening, and peering with wide eyes into the shadows.”
Good old familiar [Elven] telepathy, with a BIG twist. Too powerful?
[3] Strangest Riddle [Elven]
Event • Regroup
Spot an Elf and a non-Elf companion in your discard pile to reconcile your hand.
“‘After that, I suppose, he turned his arms into wings and flew away singing into the trees. It should be easy to find him: we only need wings ourselves!’”
Discard pile? Easier than you might think. This set brings back discarding Hobbits, and also features discarding Gandalf, if you remember. It also has Ents which can discard cards like crazy to fight, and don't forget discarding unique companions from hand to heal their counterparts already in play! See...not so hard to trigger after all.
-
I think that last card might be a bit too much. As you said yourself, it's easy to pull off, near-uncounterable and a huge bonus for [Elven] decks, which usually rely on events anyway. I think it needs a steeper twilight cost, specifically, because exertions or threats won't do much good against a double, whereas twilight will.

Seems fine. Except that the title is already used by a [Gollum] card (oh thank you autolink!)
(0) Feel The Tenseness [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Exert an Elf hunter to reveal an opponent's hand. For each forest site you can spot, that opponent must remove [1] or a threat.
“He stood under the eaves of the forest, stooping forward, as if he were listening, and peering with wide eyes into the shadows.”
My problem with this card is that the second line has nothing to do with the first. Either make the removing [1] or a threat conditional on the cards revealed (for example, for each event revealed) or drop the revealing a hand completely.
[2] Strangest Riddle [Elven]
Event • Regroup
Spot an Elf and a companion in your discard pile to reconcile your hand.
“‘After that, I suppose, he turned his arms into wings and flew away singing into the trees. It should be easy to find him: we only need wings ourselves!’”
Seems fine, though extra twilight cost is probably a good idea.

Whoops! :-[ That was kind of silly, wasn't it? This started with discarding cards from hand, but was modified to the point that the telepathy part didn't make much sense, eh? Fixed now. Too much?
Tweaked the others as well. Strangest Riddle now requires that discarded companion to be a non-Elf, which limits it somewhat. (No simply tossing it in with a bunch of unique Elves that discard copies of themselves from hand to heal anymore!)
-
Well, I'm happy! :P

Yeah, they're definitely better now.

Its not clear which unbound companion youre getting the bonus from... Seeing as you exerted it can be free.

Dropped Stands !Not Alone to (0) and upped the "spotting requirements" for Feel the Tenseness. How's that?

Some very unusual [Elven] cards today, based on some fun ideas I had regarding the interaction between Aragorn and Brego (and, as the lore implies in the first of these cards, the interaction between Legolas and Arod from the novel). Enjoy!
[1] Stille Nú [Elven]
Event • Fellowship
Exert an Elf companion (or Aragorn) to play a mount from your draw deck.
“...Arod was tame and willing beneath him, moving here and there with but a spoken word: such was the elvish way with all good beasts.”
Helps set up some nice [Elven] / [Rohan] pairings, or can be used to snag Asfaloth, at least (though ironically, this is the only LOTR set in which that steed does not appear ).
(0) Man Cenich? [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Exert an Elf (or spot Aragorn and an Elf) to reveal the top X cards of your draw deck, where X is the number of Free Peoples mounts you can spot. You may reinforce a culture token for each Free Peoples card revealed.
“‘I've heard of the magic of Elves, but I did not look for it in a Ranger from the North. You speak as one of their own.’”
Perhaps a little too complicated--I was originally thinking of healing, but I think I have plenty already--but I wanted this to be a bit wild and wacky. Usually you might get one token out of this, but with good deck manipulation it COULD be HUGE.
With today being my last day at my current job (and thus likely the last time I can post DCs during working hours), I might post more later today if these get a few reviews early on.
-
I think the second card is too complicated, but they both seem fine to me.

[1] Stille Nú [Elven]
Event • Fellowship
Exert an Elf companion (or Aragorn) to play a mount on that companion from your draw deck.
“...Arod was tame and willing beneath him, moving here and there with but a spoken word: such was the elvish way with all good beasts.”
I might not use it, unless there's some good [rohan] mounts that can play on Elves. I might make it:
"Exert an Elf companion (or spot Aragorn) to play a mount from your draw deck."
That would also encourage some Aragorn/ [rohan] interaction.
(0) Man Cenich? [Elven]
Event • Maneuver
Exert an Elf (or Aragorn) to reveal the top X cards of your draw deck, where X is the number of Free Peoples mounts you can spot. You may reinforce a culture token of each Free Peoples culture revealed.
“‘I've heard of the magic of Elves, but I did not look for it in a Ranger from the North. You speak as one of their own.’”
I'd either spot Aragorn or just reinforce for each Free Peoples card revealed.
-
Tweaked 'em both. Better now?

coolio.
-
I think they're both fine. I love how you bleed the cultures like that, allowing an [Elven] card to be played form a [Gondor] or [Rohan] deck while STILL keeping it culturally enforced.
-
Sweet. As promised, then, more cards! (Though anyone that wants to go back and review the others is still more than welcome. ;)). These up the ante a bit and really provide some sweeping benefits not just for Elves, but for hunters in general....
[2] The Hunt Is Over [Elven]
Event • Skirmish
Make an Elf companion strength +1 for each hunter you can spot.
“‘We were the hunters, and you should give an account of yourselves to us first.’”
Need a limit? With cards like Sprang Forth Nimbly, Spied From Afar, Axe Work, and especially Grim Trophy having no limit, I thought it was alright here, but if you disagree....
[1]•A Red Sun Rises [Elven]
Condition • Support Area
Each time a minion is killed or discarded, you may exert an Elf hunter (or spot an Elf and 4 hunters) to add an [Elven] token here.
Skirmish: Remove an [Elven] token from here to make a hunter strength +2 or strength -2.
Discard this condition at the start of the fellowship phase.
“‘It is a red dawn. Strange things await us by the eaves of the forest. Good or evil, I do not know; but we are called.’”
Hahah. Bwahaha. MWAHAHAHAHAAA! Death by archery, skirmishing, Ithilien Blade...doesn't matter. Each one nets you additional strength. For a limited time, at least.
-
I'd lose the elf in the second part of the second card, I think it's NEAT that you can play it off minions only! :D Also, I love how the bonus also counts minions, and I do't think it needs a cap at all, I think LotR needs more GOOD strength bonuses.

It doesn't need a limit and I think it's fine given the [Elven] culture's expertise in skirmish events.

Interesting. I'm not sure how good it is; I think I would make it cost [2] and just spot an Elf hunter to add a token.
