I've seen several of these cards in the promotional section of the card database and I have a question:
What do the keywords 'Triumph' and 'NOLINKMenace' mean?

Yeah, they had promise, and I would have been interested in trying them out. But the game was dying by the time the mechanic came along, so it never really took off.

Only really worked online anyways.  Relies too much on randomness.

Yeah, not sure how you could even implement it outside of LOTR TCG Online. Maybe dice?
