Ever since the last Extended Season, before the rotation, I've been toying with the idea of a burn deck, that relied on Chrome Mox for a turn-one Slith Firewalker and a turn-two Blood Moon/Magus of the Moon/Molten Rain. The deck was not great, but with the huge amount of non-basics being played, when it got going, it hurt. However, after the rotation, non-basics are not THAT dominant (at least decks have ways around Magus with ease) to justify playing Chrome Mox anymore. I've been toying with different builds, trying Blistering Firecat or Browbeat as a finisher, but it's just too expensive for my tastes. So, after quite a while, I got down to this (and would like your opinions on it):
4 Great Furnace
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
13 Mountain
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Keldon marauders
4 Spark Elemental
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Magma Jet
4 Incinerate
3 Shrapnel Blast
3 Shard Volley
3 Sulfuric Vortex
2 Flames of the Blood Hand
Sideboard:
4 Smash to Smithereens
3 Pyroclasm
3 Guttural Response
3 Ensnaring Bridge
1 Flames of the Blood Hand
1 Sulfuric Vortex
Since I dropped Chrome Mox, I decided to add in Blinkmoth Nexus, mainly because it flies, so it can get around most blockers AND trade with annoying Faeries like Scion of Oona, but the main reason I opted for it instead of Mutavault was so I can play a third Shrapnel Blast maindecked. That spell is just awesome, and if I decide to go back to playing Chrome Mox acceleration, rest asured I'll be adding a fourth copy! Another card I'm not entirely sold on right now is Spark Elemental, since it just begs to get a Seal of Fire to the face. However, it's fast enough that it can get around to the Seal and it annoys most other decks, so I'm keeping it for now as a first side-out option until something better comes along. Any questions on other stuff?
