Title: Gandy Ents/Corsairs
Post by: ghhhk on January 05, 2009, 07:18:03 PM
This is a deck in need of updating.  Looking for any help in bringing it up to date.

Starting:
Frodo, Protected by Many 11S164
Gandalf, Leader of Men 8R15
Forest Guardian 5C17
The One Ring, The Ring of Rings

Fellowship: (33)
Erland, Dale Counselor
Jarnsmid, Barding Emissary
Radagast, The Brown
Ent Horde
Skinbark, Fladrif
Treebeard, Keeper of the Watchwood

Sting, Weapon of Heritage
Glamdring, Foe-Hammer

Pallando, Far-Travelling One

Saved From the Fire x4
Travelled Leader x4
Terrible and Evil x3
The Flame of Anor x4
The Terror of His Coming
Roll of Thunder
Out of the High Airs

G is for Grand x4

Shadow: (33)
Castamir of Umbar x4
Corsair Marauder x4
Black Numenorean x3
Corsair Plunderer x4
Corsair Ruffian
Corsair Freebooter x2

Raider Halberd x4
Black Sails of the Umbar x4
Ships of Great Draught x 2

Red Wrath x3
Quelled x2

This was built when Bloodlines released and could use some focus and updating.  I think it could easily be a Standard deck by using the newer Ents as well.  The main idea is to burn the Forest Guardian early and get the fellowship set up by grabbing enough Gandalf Companions to play Treebeard early.  All comps get boosted from G is for Grand.  Gandalf uses events all day to help win skirmishes.  Erland helps bring them back.  Pallando and Treebeard keep their conditions off the table and G is for Grand on the table.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

4 G for Grand I think is too much because they're so expensive - I wouldn't run more than 3. I would, however, recommend that you throw in 1 copy of Sent Back and another version of Gandalf that has text like Leader of the Company so that you can burn Gandalf nice and easily. Also be sure that you have Falls of Rauros just so that you can break the rule of 9 if you have to (especially with Traveled Leader).

Also if you're planning on drawing SftF at site 1, you really want to have a deck of 30/30.

I think G for Grand will have great chances of not working so great in this deck. If you have just 1 burden (which is pretty easy even when you are nor facing a corruption deck) all your companions (except Frodo) will lose the strength bonus and this high cost condition will become useless, and seems to me that only Glamdring will not do the deal of keeping the burdens at 0.

I personally like a lot the awesome discarding hability that Gandy have in Movie/Expanded with cards like Sleep Caradhras, Roll of Thunder and Deep in Thought. Maybe you can go for that... or you can stick with Pallando (and maybe Brooding on Tomorrow) for condition discard and add another Roll of Thunder.

I think that Thranduil sugestion is a good one... add Sent Back and another copy of a more useful Gandalf to replace Leader of Men.

For the corsairs i think you are going with the standar... maybe replace Quelled with Discovered, which i think can be more useful.
