Title: SDA on Vista
Post by: NappyKorn on January 06, 2009, 06:22:57 PM
Can anyone explain to me why SDA is having a hard time loading saved decks on Windows Vista. I moved my SDA files to my new laptop that runs vista, and now I can't load the decks I had saved from my XP operating desktop. I can recreate the decks and they will open fine, but was wondering if their was a fix for this problem. If you know what can be done please let me know.

Thanks,

NK

This seems to be an OS problem

Try to boot your laptop: Either Linux or XP should work. Maybe XP saves files not as Vista does. Wouldn't be the first time, that anyone has problems with Vista's surface.

Yeah so far not a fan of vista, but wasn't a fan on XP either until I figured it all out. I was thinking of installing XP on this, but who wants to pay for another copy of windows when you currently have a PC with it on there. Depending on whether or not I ever get a handle on this Vista mess I might just invest in another copy of XP .

Would you buy another copy of XP just to run SdA?

Could not you remove XP from your PC and run it on your Laptop? With Vista, just the other way round

Nope, far to expensive that is why I was asking if anyone else had this problem and how/if they were able to fix it.

Oh course what an idiot I have become lately. That is a good idea. I will do that if I don't get any fixes in a few days or so. :gp: for the obvious.

Be careful, it's likely that it won't work. Remember that starting with XP when Microsoft activates Windows and they keep track of the hardware of your machine. IIRC If you move it to another computer they won't accept the license.

Problem fixed. I just had to make the sda folder not be in the programs fle folder. Not used to that since XP can run programs in the program files folder. I hate the security things on Vista. Just to make sure as well I also made sda run like it was on XP with SP2 and made the deck file lose read oly access . I can now play sDa on my new laptop .

Oh, so your problem was compatibility/security problem.  Also Anyone running sda on vista should make sure all the folders/directories that sda are accessible as readable/writeable, and not system-protected.  XP has this to, but only if not running as administrator.
