Title: Shapes Slowly Advaning in Group...
Post by: UoleKuvion on January 31, 2009, 09:31:58 AM
What would happen if I use Shapes Slowly Advancing in a group game with 4 players?

Say I got 4 tokens on the SSA, I know the current Free People player will be corrupted.  But does the effect continue when the other players start their turns?

I'm not sure about the implication of "when you can spot..." in this situation.

I say they all are corrupted as soon as they start their turns and you win! :)

Correct.

Let's say there are 5 players: A, B, C, D, and E. Player A's shadow makes use of SSA and gets 4 tokens on it during Player C's turn. Player C's RB is immediately corrupted and he is out of the game. At the start of Player D's and Player E's turns, their RB's are immediately corrupted and are also out of the game. Player A has to play through an entire FP turn before Player B's RB is corrupted. The only way for an automatic, immediate win is for SSA to fully activate on Player B's turn.

This is bloody evil  :uh-huh:

Normally, if there are 4 players, one should be able to discard the condition before there are 4 tokens on it. Furthermore, if it is a 4 player game, 1 schould have a companion to take back to prevent a token...

The german version is very funny, the last sentence is missing. I thought a very long time, what the [Wraith] culture is able to do if it spotts tokens. I guessed it must be very powerfull.

Well, it is powerfull, indeed  ;D

Thanks for the clarification, this sounds great

My friend says otherwise because he argues SSA reads "when you can spot..." and not "while you can spot...", so the effect only trigger once and not continuous when the other players start their turn.

My plan is actually not rely on discarding Nazgul to add the necessary tokens, rather using Ulaire Nelya, Third of the Nine Riders, Ulaire Toldea, Eighth of the Nine Riders, Traveled Leader, and Morannon Plains to set it up.

If I got a good draw, I should be able to corrupt everyone by site 4, before anyone can draw anything to discard the condition

assuming you can get that first crucial token...which should be easy.

That's basically what I do, but like SoP said, in order to reinforce tokens you need the first token to be there. For that purpose, I use Spied From Above so that you can play more Nazgûl from your hand in the regroup phase! :uh-huh:

Do not forget that you can prevent it!

Hah. One of my friends uses a deck like this for multiplayer, with Spied From Above, Morannon Plains, Nelya, and other stuff.

Unfortunately, playing that card in multiplayer really paints a target on your chest.

on the plus side, if you get it out in region one, people will be reluctant to return one of their few companions to hand...
plus someone might always use tempest of war on you ;)

Spied from above is evil with SSA! Good call  =D>

(actually how else would the card be useful???)

Still haven't try it on my group yet, but judging from the comments, my best chance seems to set it up ASAP and probably will work only once

Better find a supporting strategy...

My SSA deck comboes SSA, Surrounded by Wraiths and WK, Black Lord: SSA bounces companions, when they're played again they suffer with surrounded by wraiths and WK... WK comes down cheap, i play a lot of nazguls if the companions are not exhausted. Not the best combo neither the best deck, but it's fun.

Surrounded by Wraiths wouldn't let you use the WK, Black Lord exert again - you pay the cost again but the companion is only played once.

Actually, I think you can. Both Surrounded By Wraiths and Black Lord are being triggered by the same event, but that's not a problem—multiple things can trigger off the same event all the time, for example, if you had 3 Cast From the Hall in play and you played a [Rohan] possession, all three of them would get a token, even though they are all triggering from the same event.

Each copy of Black Lord can only exert one companion each time the trigger is met. Surrounded By Wraiths does not let you use Black Lord a second time, because the companion is only being played once, so Black Lord is only triggered once.

Yes! Sorry, misunderstood the issue! This is what happens when I don't play LotR for too long!
