Hello people...
There are quite some people here that like music. I was wondering if people here know some real good rapmusic. Textwise, beatwise etc. I like Tupac myself, but his lyrics aren't always that good. His wording is, but in quite some songs he uses offensive language, least to say. Is there for example real good christian rap music?
-
Sorry i don't really care for rap but one song I do like is Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) by Wyclef Jean, not sure if it's rap though.
-
A friend of mine liked Gritz (i think thats how you spell it)
-
christian rap... is mostly not so awesome...
kj52 is pretty good. has some funny songs. but other than that i'm not learned in christian rap.
-
Perhaps you should try Gym Class Heroes.
-
My rap favorites are Cypress Hill, but they curse too, so...

Kj25 is good, but they are a little to upbeat. You actually need lyrics to find out what they're saying.
Not to many Christian rappers out there, but, if your willing to switch it up a bit, Relient K is a great Christian rock band. though most of there songs aren't God-related.
-
yeah, most of the quote un-quote christian music out there is just a normal song with the girl's name changed to "God" or "Jesus"
and that's just pretty pathetic...
there are some good ones out there. Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, Leeland, Shane and Shane, but yeah, i have very little respect for christian music.
-
On an unrelated side note, Brandon Flowers from The Killers is Mormon, but as usual there songs have very little to do with religion!
-
There is no such this as 'good' rap music.
The closest anyone comes is Slipknot or Linkin Park and thats only minutely related.
-
YES! There is!
Manafest is actually pretty good, though almost nobody knows who he is, especially the songs Impossible and Skills.
Group 1 Crew's new album Ordinary Dreamers is awesome, I wrote a full-blown review of it on my music blog if ya wanna check that out.
toybMac has 3 good albums...out of 3. Momentum is solid rap, Diverse City is pretty much too, but he moves towards more of a pop sound with Portable Sounds.
Some people like GRITS, I'm not that big of a fan...
KJ-52 is hilarious, but he still does serious stuff. He may not be good music-wise, but he's got the lyrics nailed. You got him doing Coke, Fry and a Cheeseburger on one hand (or Mountain Dew Anonymous) and Dear Slim on the other. His all-time greatest is Do Yo Thang, its genius. :D
P.O.D. plays nu-metal, but a lot of their stuff has rap vocals, like Youth of the Nation.
TFK also plays rapcore and nu-metal (BTW, they're featured on some of Manafest's stuff), and Falling Up's first album had a couple songs like New Hope Generation and Jacksonfive that were solidly rap (mostly the stuff they did collab with Kutless on, though they've also got Demon Hunter on Jacksonfive, yes, a Death Metal band on a rap track, and its freakin' awesome).
There's also, of course, Jordin Sparks (and no, we aren't talking about our friend Jordy here. ;) )
Family Force 5 is awesome. They're stereotypical dirty south crunk sound (Kountry Gentleman, anyone?), but their lyrics are actually clean...
And then there's John Reuben, Lyrycyst and Shawn Lock, but I'm not too familiar with them.
Here's my playlist- http://www.imeem.com/nbarden/playlist/R25Kcxio/christian_rap_music_playlist/
So...recommendations- Manafest, Family Force 5 and Group 1 Crew.

haha, what the heck NB, its a freakin' forum about rap, he can say he hates it, and you can say you love it, and we can all go home happy. lol.
-
but NB, I'm on your site! This is a question and oh, want your opinion about the greatest lyrics you know! Thanks in advance!
-
lol. the NB lem0n wars continue.
rap is ok, but I'm not much for christian rap. for the obvious reason of it being c-rap.

Listen to Casting Crowns, You might just change your mind. Nichole Nordman, Neswboys, and MercyMe are good too.

Last time i checked its the members lounge NB and im still on topic as mm rightly points out theres nothing wrong with me disagreeing. Its something ur immensely familiar with as you seem to do in on any thread where someone passes an opinion!
Tempest hears what im saying as well!
-
Dead Celebrity Status. Not only is their music great to listen to, but they've got a real message to deliver (most of the time).

Gotta agree with lem0n on this one. Nothing wrong with posting one's opinion.

i actually am not a big fan of casting crowns. i didn't like their song Every Man even though tons of my friends did. i actually haven't listed to much by nichole nordman, so i can't "pass an opinion". newsboys aren't terrible. i like Stay Strong. MercyMe never really jumped out and grabbed me. Caedmon's Call though, they are good. very good. i especially like their last album, Overdressed.
i'm not saying there isn't good christian music out there, but if you turn the radio on to a christian station, 95% of the songs are puke...
-
Yea, well I guess that's right.
As for casting crowns. I didn't really like Every Man, but I do like:
Your love is extravigant
East from the West
Prayer for a friend
and some others that I forgot.
MercyMe is an ok band, but yea, I can find better.
-

Linkin park is also rap XD
PS
i'm not saying there isn't good christian music out there, but if you turn the radio on to a christian station, 95% of the songs are puke...
The rest 5% are even worse :P

no, because every, oh 6 months or so, they play one by caedmon's. haha

i do remember... but the question remains: does this make me "Very very sad"? i don't think so, i'm VERY happy right now.

Okay, lem0n, I concede. Continuing cluttering the thread with your useless posts and we shall all ignore them.
Yeah, Casting Crowns is way overplayed.
See, with Christian music, you need to avoid the stuff on the radio, because the only good band that gets lots of play is Kutless...and Skillet, Skillet is okay. But with Christian bands, the less play they get, the better they are (see TFK, Disciple, Falling Up as opposed to Casting Crowns, MercyMe and RelientK).
Some good Christian bands:
FALLING UP!!!!!!!! (experimental rock- they have not made a bad song- and I own every single one of their songs...except the unreleased ones- FANGS COMING MARCH 24th!)
Thousand Foot Krutch (nu-metal, rapcore- Phenomenon is their greatest album)
12 Stones (post-grunge ala 3 Doors Down, Creed and Nickelback- Anthem for the Underdog is a brilliant album, Potter's Field- not so much)
Disciple (hard rock, but a different tinge based on the album, some albums are metal sounding, some screamo, their latest is southern rock style)
Anberlin (alternative)
P.O.D. (nu-metal and a really cruddy latest album that doesn't do them justice...)
Skillet (depends on the album- Invincible is electronica, Collide is hardcore rock, Comatose is symph rock, the rest is not worth listening to).
Project 86 (ANARCHO-PUNK! and post-hardcore...)
Switchfoot! (uh...Switchfoot?)
The Fray (Piano Rock)
Lifehouse (Pop Rock)
Nevertheless (Indie Pop)
Paramore (uh...Paramore?)
And yeah, I know, Paramore, Lifehouse and The Fray are probably bands you've heard of. Yes, they are indeed Christian bands. Not too bad, eh?
-
Overplayed!?!? :-?
I think you need to get your priorities straight! Have you listened to K-love recently?
-
Seeed
-
?
-
The Fray... they suck
-
Really? Granted, they're musics all sound the same, but I like some of them.
-
Fray can never get old =P~...
-
To be honest there is hardly any new music I like... :-S
-
Seeed
i think seeed and their leader peter fox aren't well-known outside of germany, elrohir. ;)
-
Overplayed!?!? :-?

I would, but they play Casting Crowns and MercyMe too much, so I tend to hit Air1 or WayFM over K-Love.
Seriously, they are a tier 2 band to begin with, Third Day TOTALLY pwns them for the genre they're in, and MercyMe is even worse. And then, you take their WORST song (not even Lifesong is the one that's played, they pick Every Man, East To West and Slow Fade...which all sound identical anyways). And then the music format is so repetetive, that the K-Love thing should be..."Give us 30 minutes and we'll give you, Casting Crowns! MercyMe! Casting Crowns again!"
Casting Crowns used to be decent, I mean, they gave use If We Are The Body, Voice of Truth and Lifesong, but other than those 3 songs, they aren't worth my time. MercyMe's made one good song, I Can Only Imagine (that song is incredible), but other than that, why not pop in Show Me Your Glory, Call My Name, Tunnel, Creed or some other Third Day song? They totally beat both MercyMe and Casting Crowns any day.
Air1 is good because they play all the Christian underground bands. Abandoned, Jonah33 (this band is genius, BTW, Faith Like That is amazing), Seventh Day Slumber, Big Dismal, etc. And they also play the Christian music nobody else will because "OMG its on a mainstream label SHUN!!!!!!!!" (uh...Anberlin, P.O.D., 12 Stones, Remedy Drive, Lifehouse, The Fray).
-
For good rap, you need to go old school.
Public Enemy
NWA
Dr Dre
Ice T
-
Wu-Tang Clan!
-
Okay, Okay, I admit that kluv overplays a lot. But Casting Crowns has so much more to offer.
ever since their Alter and the Door Cd, they've been on fire! Yea, I guess that I didn't really like Lifesong too much when I first heard it, because I didn't really like the new style that casting crowns was fitting into. But, if you give each and every one of their songs a second chance, you'll find that you are beginning to like them. Just listen to som o' them a few more times.
I like What This World Needs. Great song if you like rock. I guess Casting Crowns is slipping away from their original classification. They are still an amazing band, no matter what anybody says.
Forgot to mention; Matthew West is an amazing singer! I went to his concert in Junction City, and he totally blew me away! He likes to get the crowd into it as well. He even made up a song on the spot right there for us. I also liked Josh...Josh something I forgot his name, but he performed before Matthew West in the concert and he blew me away even More!!! Plus, Matthew West is an awesome guy. I got to go backstage and meet him (because our old band director worked @ the place he performed), and he told us about his walk w/ God and everything. I also got a ticket signed but that's beside the point.
I think I'm gonna write him and send him some of my lyrics and see if he likes em.
-
Eh...if you're going to listen to Christian pop, might as well make it GOOD Christian pop.
Lifehouse, The Fray, Paramore, anyone?
-
Is that referring to casting crowns or matthew west? Because if your talking about matthew west, :cpunch: :ow: :pirate: you.
-
Um...more like MercyMe and Casting Crowns. Matthew West is better comparatively, but when compared to Lifehouse, he stinks.
-
Lifehouse?... I actually can not remember ever hearing them. #-o man I'm stumped here. I'll have to google them...dang ](*,)
-
You and Me, Broken, Hanging By A Moment, Breathing, Everything. Those are the best of their songs. In order.
-
mewithoutYou
-
Oh okay good,
I know You and me, and I think i've heard breathing and everything. Yea they're a good band I guess.
Maybe when my band steps up a little we can play you guys some music.
