Title: Funny story with the USPS
Post by: sickofpalantirs on February 09, 2009, 12:16:38 PM
Funny story, I was doing a trade with fatty-lumpkin, I was a TAD uneasy about it, as he didn't have many references...than he moved and he to delay sending.  I was a little more uneasy now.  Than they didn't come. for a long time.  I figured I should get them in 3 days.  monday comes, I recalculate and decide they'll come wednesday.  Wednesday comes.  Than Thursday, friday, saturday...I decide monday comes, if they aren't here I'll have to put something up...much as I hate to do so.

I just checked the mail and it looked like there was nothing there.  I'm filing through it and I come to a plastic bag.  I look and it says SoP, I'm like YESH!  than i start reading

USPS

WE CARE
Dear postal customer...we sincerely regret the damage."
I stop reading, and utter one word. "crap." promptly followed by " ARE YOU KIDDING ME"

I look at it, right side is seriously chewed up...I open it, hoping he used hard sleeves...soft sleeves...whew. cards are fine.
one package is a tad bent, but otherwise they are OK.

I thought it was funny ;)

omg, as soon as i started reading this I started to get nervous. Actually you're the fourth person that has happened to within since January. A wave of relief came over me when you said the cards were fine. I'm gonna send a complaint to the post office today and will mail from Portland from now on. It has to be happening from my local small town office. I'm glad the cards are unharmed but am sorry for the delay. hopefully the post office in portland will actually "Handle with Care".

my Mother says if you use smaller personal sized envelopes it might work better (like the one I sent to you.)
IDK though.

I don't remember but was yours sent in a padded envelope? or a big white one? Also, were any of the cards damaged at all?

big white one.
aside from the ones you had indicated were slightly damage, one package was bent on coming out of the envelope.  They seem to be fine now.

My father had the experience of selling many old and valuable record albums on eBay. All of them were clearly marked with FRAGILE. Apparently, one of his customers said that he found the album envelope bent into a U-shape and crammed into his mailbox! He got a refund, even though it wasn't our fault, but it still is an odd story. How could a mailman not notice the stiffness and then CRACKing sound?!

Whew, when i start to read this i taught: #$&*@!! He said he have the same problem with me (delaying and problems with my package in his post office) so i start wondering if my cards will arrives in safety, but i keep faith they will

By the way, let me know if the ones i sent arrives in good shape...

Yeah Pepin i recieved your cards all in good shape.  Here's a  :gp:

So far the only problems I've had with recieving packages are: In december I recieved an envelope that was torn up but looks like it was taped back together and recently I  recieved a return to sender with the address smeared as though it was dropped in water.

I've had an envelope returned to me completely soaked... the contents destroyed.

Well luckily I packaged the cards in a bubble padded envelope, otherwise i'm sure the cards would have been ruined if it got wet.

I got one of those sorry-about-the-damage envelopes from USPS (with one end of the original torn), but thankfully the toploader/sleeve protected the cards.

What gets me is when a seller crammed six cards into a regular toploader, five sleeved together and one sandwiched in between. That took some thinking into how to extract them safely. Since I paid for shipping anyway, I wish the packaging could've been a bit better.

But nothing beats receiving cards from a trade and noticing they were covered in a sweaty white substance that left traces on my card sleeves. :o Unless other notified I'd assume cards might have a few small nicks or minor wear, but if the other end is tempted to run something you traded through a mass spectrometer... that's a problem. :uh-huh:

lol thats hilarious.  in my second trade I sent a badly damage foil to someone, he was ok with it but we'd been talking about microwaving foils and he said if he ever got another copy that card was a candidate.

What happens if you microwave a foil card?

Dude, I just hate USPS!!!

No, not really xD I just hate the shipping and stuff.

The other day I just decided to buy another ages end set, and since the only shop I know that has it is wholesalegaming.com, I decided to buy there. OK. Ages End: twenty dollars, good, almost cheap. Add to your shopping cart? Yeah.
Priority air mail, by USPS. It's not quite urgent, I can wait a bit. Then I called my dad to ask how good USPS was: "Yeah, it's quite good, if you mean fast". OK. But I'd never had ordered by USPS before, and since I live in Chile, the shipping cost was even more expensive than the product itself! like twenty-six dollars!

WTF??? Almost fifty dollars for one Ages end set!?

I called my brother, who has always used the service, to ask if the price was OK, or if there was some mistake. "No, not at all, it's even cheap for what it is"

WTF!!??? I just hate these guys xD

pardon the wtf's xD It's just that I couldn't believe it xD

Are you sure you'd get much cheaper with UPS or FedEx? Usually international rates are fairly high... though for a small box of cards $26 seems steep. I'd point the finger at the seller for padding the shipping.  [-X

I know wholesalegaming's shipping is so expensive, i usually wait until i can make one huge order before i do it, that way the shipping is relatively less

The shipping off wholesalegaming went up quite a few notches....sadly. Especially for a wraith collection, 6 cards, they charge 30 usd for shipping it to the Netherlands...hahaha. Ain't gonna happen! I emailed them, but they didn't respond.
