Hi people,
Since we see that the GCCG fame is increasing i taught: why don't twist things a little bit and make some tourney or our "new" beloved plataform???
The most played formats are movie and standard but block format is also much played at GCCG so we can organize a tourny in these formats (Standard, Movie and FoTR, TT and RoTK blocks) what do you people think?
I came up with this: one player will be the responsible for each of the formats, so he/she will get a list of all players who will join in the refered format, organize a list of the confronts and keep the results updated as the players submit their results. We can manage to get some voluntaries to be judges in each format (althought that would slow things a little more). Maybe the judge can be the organizer of the format or maybe some watcher... players can post their games in an apropriate topic if they want.
Anyway i wanna know which of you liked the idea and wanna make it happen, just for a little fun of course!
-
Well, i guess people can start to sign up here telling which formats he/she wants to play and if could be responsible for some of them either (or judge).
So i will start...
I will play TTT and Movie block and standard. I can organize Movie and be a judge (with my limitations) while i'm not playing.
Let's wait more people to join!
-
I'm thinking it would be fun to work our way up from old to new:
FotR --> TT --> RotK --> Movie --> Standard --> Expanded (maybe) --> OPEN!
Just kidding on Open.
-
I'm in. I like movie block and expanded, and would be willing to organize anything pre-shadows.
-
I would like either movie block or FOTR block. I am not a fan of standard or expanded and open is out of the question.
-
Yes, I like the idea. I don't think we need judges, though, this game is not THAT complicated. I'd prefer not to touch standard/expanded, but if the general feeling is about it, then I agree.
-
So y'all not wanting to do TT/RotK blocks then?
-
I'd prefer movie, but if thats not an option, I'd go for RotK.
-
I think most prefer Movie, but I was thinking of the CC tournament that spanned multiple blocks. Perhaps we should start with just one block/format?
-
Yup. Start easy... I mean after it ends, try a second, and a third... that is how it goes on MECCG GCCG :)
-
Perhaps we could all agree to a Movie Block tourney for starters?
-

Count me in! Later on we can do other blcok tourneys (or standard, expanded, etc.)
So far he have: Pepin, Kralik, Manuel, Ringbearer, Sweet... I think maybe other gccg player like Malachi could also also. Other people are encouraged to join too!
Depending on the number of participants we can choose the tourney mode (all vs. all, "swiss mode", etc.).
In fact judges are not that necessary but is always help have some third word about some divergence...
So we will use only one deck for all the tourney? And how about the X-list? I think we can use the list before shadows + Lady Redeemed, what do you people think?
-
What date? I can only play on weekends, and even then I'm usually pretty busy.
-
I'm not sure if I can do this, since I only got a very limited time window to play.
-
Best is swiss format, announce pairings at the start of a given week, then give a whole week to all players to mail between them and agree a certain time to play. Game results must be submitted at Sunday night max.
This way, a 4-round swiss tourney would take 4 weeks to be complete. Yes, I know it's somewhat slow, but it would allow people with difficult agendas to play.
As for the format, I agree with Movie Block, using the official Movie Block X-list with the addition of Galadriel Lady Redeemed.
-
That sounds good. Would it be an elimination style, or double elim, or what?
-
I always like eliiminatories or all vs. all, but swiss is nice too. We can see what most people like and set it up that way. The premium could be virtual money at GCCG for the first places (can we do that wlk?).
So we just need a few more players and we shall be ok.
-
I can't wait to whack y'all with my [Dunland] site control. Hehe...
-
Hmmm... I personally believe we could do a standard LOTR tournament as it was done in the Decipher days (or at least the way I remember them) which is: swiss format, number of rounds according to the number of players (I'd need to check here but I guess it would prolly take 3-4 rounds assuming we won't be less than 4 or more than 17) Then maybe doing a final confontration, or even a top 4 if number of players is high.
I think most of people posting here will play that tournament (no matter how many rounds, swiss or not...) as long as we have the time, so I guess we don't have to wait to see what everybody thinks in order to keep everyone happy, just propose something and give it a try. I am open to almost everything, and I also offer myself as an organizer for this event, if needed (i.e. doing pairings, receiving and announcing results)
-
I would like FotR block, then tt block, then rotk block, then movie block.
I personally don't like Standard and Expanded due to all the possible broken combos... but if people wanna play those format... I'll have to use them to win.

Modest as always ;)
I agree with Manuel, so let's make the first move and get things ready to go...so here it is:
GCCG TOURNAMENT:
- Pairing will be made by swiss mode (win player vs. win player, lose x lose). Beggining next week!
- We will start with our beloved Movie Block format  Next could be standard or block formats.
- All people who wants to join send me a pm and i will "draw lots" to determine the first matches. After that pairing will be resolved by by swiss mode (with new picks if when necessary between odds).
- After all ready for the first round i will post the matches in a topic here and players enters in contact and decide which is the best day and hour to arrange a game. After they have played, both can submit the result to me via pm and i can make a new post to anounce the results. People can post a play-by-play of their matches if they want to.
- For Movie block round the X-list will be like was after shadow release adding that "inofensive looking" female elf Galadriel, Lady Redeemed. You can find the list at http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1053.0 (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php?topic=1053.0)
- I really think we don't need the deck list of all players cause we are just playing for fun and i hope no one will change the deck for a more suitable matchup. If people still thinks that the decklist is required we have to find someone to receive it.
- We will try to resolve one round each week, but we will proceed to next round only when all games were played. If some player is not avaliable to any day during more than two weeks we can declare victory for the opponent (just to not slow down the tourny to much and get people away).
Any suggestions would be welcome. So people can start to send me their inscriptions via pm and let's get started!
-
Since I'm not playing, I'd be willing to help out by receiving everyone's decklists, and then it'd be up to you if I should post if after the tournament, or before. However, I think it adds to the fun posting it BEFORE, basically because it prevents deck-changing, but ALSO because it gives players the opportunity of tuning gameplay to face each otehr, resulting in more balanced matches. But ir's up to you guys.
-
Actually i'm thinking that maybe allow deck change for each match can add some ineresting dinamics to the tourney.
i just wanna remind people to send me pm's in order to join the tourney, even the ones that have already showed interest in the tread.
When i have more time can update things a little bit and also enter gccg to go after more players.
And thanks FM for your disponibility in the case we need
-
I'm personally not in favour of showing everyone's decklists before the games take place. It removes the surprise factor completely, and also most flavour in this game (in my opinion) Especially the most originial and unsuspected decks would be seriously harmed with this option, which would be a pitty.
About having the possibility of changing the deck after each game, I'd say let's play it simple now -as a first tournament- and follow the standard Decipher rules, which say a player has to keep the same deck all tournament.
By the way, GCCG has a way to prevent deck-changing. You have to register the deck you are going to use before the tourney starts by using the command /rd, and then, when you use that deck at the start of the game, GCCG should tell "the deck it's registered and in its orginal form" which means everything is ok. In other words, it is impossible to cheat this way in GCCG tournaments ;)
No deck list is needed. GCCG knows when a deck is legal, and also knows if the player is using the registered deck or not.
The date of start (next week) seems a bit too hasty for me, next week is tomorrow! :) Maybe we should give a week for people to register, and announce the pairings on sunday 22th feb. 1st round would be played from 23th feb to 1th march.
-
I second that.
-
I would prefer one week later to start, from 2 march till 8 match, since I have a vacation in Germany coming up. Manuel, you know what I mean ;)
-
2nd march sounds good. If everyone agrees we can stablish the bases and the date.
-
That works. So will Pepin be setting up the matches?
-
Ok, so let's start at March 2nd. I can randomly sort the matches. I taught this way: i gave a number to all players and then ask someone to pair all them without knowing who is which one, like 2vs.5; 7vs.1; etc. Then this way we ensure that was no bias in the sortment.
So far we have Pepin, Anto, Sweet and Ringbearer who have sent me a pm but i'm sure that others like Manuel, Gate Troll and Kralik will join soon.
I don't like posting decklist before the matches for similar reasons than Manuel and i guess GCCG can help us with that  I just wanna know if people want to keep the same deck for all matches or if you can change the deck every game too add even more "unpredictableness" to the matches.
So let's sign it up!
-
Hmmm, new decks every round.... *prepares anti nagzul against manuel*
-

What are the reasons behind forcing people to keep the same deck? I suppose you could hear from another player what kind of deck an opponent has and then prepare an anti-deck accordingly? BTW, I'm in. :)
-
I'm for keeping the same deck.
-
choosing one deck and sticking on it for the whole tournament makes the deck choice much more crucial (since you have to think about what is people generally playing, not only your next opponent) Also, most of us have played each other a lot in GCCG... For now I agree that keeping the same deck all tournament is the best. Maybe in the future we can propose a more complicated format.
Of course, that is just what I like best, I will be in no matter what :D
-
I think we should all use the same deck and pm our decks to Pepin and have him post them at the start of the tourney.
That would allow us to see what other people are using without changing our decks to match.
Also, that would make it easier to see if people are slightly tweaking their decks every time they play.
-
Well, the register option will show that.
/rd will regsiter a deck, and when you play it it wil show registered. And when someone tries to alter a registered deck it wont be registered anymore.
I also liek the surprise option. I dont want to analyse my opponents deck and decide what to bid, going first, knowing to save certain cards for key minions and so on.
-

Seconded. Even though I've posted a bunch of my decks here, I would hate to think that my opponent could analyze my deck and strategy before playing me.
-
Well, i'm in favour of not showing deck list to opponents prior to the end of tourney because similar reasons already cited here. I think we can stick with the GCCG "register deck" option, that seems very pratical and ensures that players will not change their decks after knowing what their next opponent should be playing.
So far we have: Pepin; Kralik; Manuel; Ringbearer; Sweet; GateTroll; Clockwork.
Anyone more? c'mon people, let's join the ranks!
I think with 8 players we can do a nice tourney
-
On /rd:
What is there to prevent registering a second deck once the tournament has started? I just tested this out and it seems to offer no complaints. A log somewhere of when decks are registered?
-
I believe wlk can find out how and what. There was a way to check in the mECCG section of GCCG. We use /rd there for every tournament.
-
I too second not publishing decklists before the tournament (maybe after, since that gives an idea of what is people playing)
And yes, I think Wlk can give us an answer for that.
-
What do you people think about watching other players match? It is fun for one way but for the other it allows your opponent to get more knowloge of your deck and since you can't change it i guess that's pretty much an advantage.
-
Don't watch the other players match, except for the final.
-
^agreed
-
Don't watch the other players match, except for the final.
How do we enforce that? :-k
-
go for standard :P
ps when will this tournament be held and what is the format

The first tournament will be movie block, starting 3rd March, but if people like it we plan to do standard and block for the next tourneys. By the way, we need just one player more :hey:
And about Wigy... one day i was playing and suddnely he appears and gave me a message and go away, so i think although in his eternal sleep, he is aware on everything that happens at gccg :ninja:
Ok, so many of us agree that players can only watch to the final (if we had 2 or more players with the same number of victories at the end of the 4 round).
-
Hi people,
I talk to wigy about the tournamente and we came up with this:
For the prizes:
1. 5 boosters + 5 promos of choice
2. 5 boosters + 4 promos of choice
3. 4 boosters + 4 promos of choice
4. 4 boosters + 3 promos of choice
5. 3 boosters + 3 promos of choice
6. 3 boosters + 2 promos of choice
7. 2 boosters + 2 promos of choice
8. 2 boosters + promo of choice
+ 1 booster for each game played
In the tournament matches player should use country flags to show that their are in a tourney match, so other players will know and will not enter the game to take a peak ;)
Any doubt send me a message.
See ya!
PS: we still need one more player... to don't have byes (i hate winning by bye)
-
Are the prizes virtual or real?
-
I'm thinking ( really hate movie format) ><
-
Are the prizes virtual or real?
Virtual for sure! otherwise this tournaments would be crowded for sure.
-
I like the prizes :) Has anyone heard from WLK? He'd make a good 8th player.
-

Good question... i haven't seen him around last days...
My friend Bombadil would join us and will be the 8th player! of course other players are encouraged to join as well (the most players the better) but at least we have a good number of people to start.
I will ask someone to help me arrange the matches. I will give a number to each player and will ask other person to blindly pick up pairs, like 4vs.8; 1vs.6, etc... and then i will post here the results for the first round, what do you people think?
-
How about we set 27th February as the last day for joining and 28th we set up the first round?
-
Well, I will see how and what as I get back, as I return 1 march, quite kate but that soudns fine with me.
-
Though I don't want to volunteer him if he doesn't want to, I think Malachi would probably join. And how about TheJord or LeoKula? Maybe PM and ask?
-

I will pm more people.
I have talked to Malachi and he says he doesn't want to join...
-
I have a limited time window to play: sometimes I don't see some of you guys for days. And that strange lag I had today...

I think it was something around 1 week per game? So you and your opponent could decide on a time that works...
-
We have another player for our tourney, Kain decided to join (Brazilian swarm!!!).
So far until now we have: (EDITED)
1- Pepin
Kralik
2- Clockwork
3- Sweet
4- Manuel
5- Ringbearer
6- Gate-troll
7- Bombadil
8- Kain
9- Tempest
We have 3 days left for more people to join! C'mon the most people the better! Also we prefer avoid odd numbers cause that way we don't have wins by bye... So let's hurry and join!
-
Ach, sorry for the last minute change, but I'm going to have to bow out of the tournament for the time being. :( I hope it all goes well! Should be a lot of fun. :)

Hey Kralik, you don't have to take that thing about odd number of players to seriusly ;)
Anyway it's a shame you will not join, but like you i hope the tourney will be all about fun!
-
how much time I have to think to join or not ?
-
how much time I have to think to join or not ?
Feb 27th is the dead line.
-
Tempest will join the tourney as well. So we got 9 players by now... one more would be vert nice in order to get an pair number of players!
-
Last day people, come on!
