Title: Solo Smeagol with Tentacle Swarm
Post by: Gil-Estel on May 22, 2008, 02:15:12 PM
Man, these Tentacles are nasty! Don't give them any twilight, otherwise you're toast!

*The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry(7R2)
*Smeagol, Bearer of Great Secrets (RB)(9R+30)

Sites
(0) Gates of Mordor
(0)Doors of Durin
(1)Expanding Marshland
(1)Neekerbeekers' Bog
(2)Mere of Dead Faces
(2)Caras Galadhon
(3)Dammed Gate-stream
(3)North Undeep
(4) Sirannon Ruins

Fellowship (32)
1x *Gladden Homestead(13R49)
1x *Safe Passage(11R50)
2x Don't Look at Them(6R39)
1x Follow Smeagol(5U23)
3x Nice Fish(15C46)
4x Poor Wretch(5C27)
4x There's Another Way(12C40)
1x Clever Hobbits(7U54)
2x Nasty(7U64)
2x Not Listening(6C43)
4x One Good Turn Deserves Another(11U49)
3x Still Far Ahead(8U29)
2x Where Shall We Go(7U78)
1x *Deagol, Fateful Finder(13R46)
1x *Fishing Boat(13R48)

Shadow (32)
4x Evil-smelling Fens(5U22)
4x Foul Things(2U59)
4x *Watcher in the Water, Many-Tentacled Creature(19P21)
4x Foul Tentacle(2C58)
4x Goblin Runner(1U178)
4x Huge Tentacle(2R66)
4x Reaching Tentacle(19P19)
4x Strong Tentacle(19P20)

Smeagol leads the way, deciding on what ever paths he wants to go. He is strong, can get even stronger, can heal, can get rid of some nasty conditions, Smeagol kicks #$&*@!! So I like him a lot, and other's don't. True to massive condition discard I'm vulnerable, but each deck has it's weaknesses.
Shadow is very simple. Make sure some sites are marches, for example with Evil-smelling Fens. Play all the tentacles you can, from your deck, from your discardpile, it doesn't matter, they just keep coming!

I hate this deck. All observe the deck that pummeled Fruit Loops.

Dont know about the solo smeagol side the idea has always bored me and i think its ridiculous that one poxy little messed up ex hobbit can win the game on his own, but the shadow is awesome! This is the bear minimum tentacle swarm it gets a lot more fun when you increase deck size especially in multiplayer, but basically its all there for some real amusement. Such a different style of deck to play.

Heh. That solo-Smeagol messes with your card flow. My Fruit Loops dedck usually decks out at 3, thus comboing at said site, but vs this deck it took until AFTER he knifed my critical comps at site 5. Its so annoying.

Anything that can kick Fruit Loops' butt gets a  from me. I hate blatantly broken decks.

Fruit Loops aside, I've been trying to put together a good tentacle deck for a while now. This has given me a few good ideas. Can't wait to try something like this out sometime.... :hey:

When I'm online, I'm available for a game on SDA...can't remember though whether you run SDA?

I certainly do, but realistically, I won't be playing for the next 3-4 weeks. That's when I'll be finished (WOO-HOO! ;D) with my master's degree, and after that, I should be able to get in some games again. I'll definately let you and several others know when I'm back in.

Hint: Don't play open. If you play open, you will get a blatantly broken deck. The thing is, blatantly broken vs blatantly broken suddenly isn't blatantly broken.

I say this deck rocks. I playtested it against Nazgul and Smeagol beats even them! Free People side is not only perfect chocke with hand-closing, but the whole deck cycles like #$&*@!. I'm really amazed how Safe Passage works with River with only two river sites in deck. Tentacles are swarming everywhere (you may want to skip your shadow on Caras Galadhon) and Smeagol is able do defeat two Nazgul at once. Third minion may be a problem, but we have Where Shall We Go, right? Anyway, I'm really impressed with the deck. Good job!

You knew this was coming G-E. Good deck yes, unbeaten no LOL. I have beaten this deck. I run a WTG choke paired with a Balrog Launch deck and Smeagol was beaten at site 7. Anyway very impressive deck yes, but as for the way LOtR is every single deck has a weakness or 2

Ai...I kinda hoped you wouldn't respond  Choke kills this deck too, so I'm afraid. And a 17 fierce damage +2 minion is a lot to chew......

I don't see the Balrog Launch Deck that NappyKorn mentioned. Does anyone have the link or could you give a suggested card list?

I posted this as a separate topic:

I made my first tentacle deck yesterday and this is what I came up with:

foul things x2 (that's all I have)
foul tentacles x4
goblin runners x4
watcher in the water, many-tentacled creature x2 (that's all I have)
Watcher in the Water, Keeper of Westgate (2R73) x1
dark places x4
huge tentacle x1 (that's all I have)
reaching tentacle x2 (that's all I have)
strong tentacle x2 (that's all I have)
evil-smelling fens x3 (that's all I have)
troubled mountains x3
host of thousands x1
end comes x1

what do you think? do I have to buy more watchers and tentacles for it to work well?

Add a gollum and some led astray to add lots of twilight, here's a link to a deck like that http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php/topic,2286.0.html

Yeah I have to decide if I want Gollum and Led Astray in my tentacle deck or my balrog deck, because I only have enough of the cards to use in one of the two.

Question: How well is the tentacle deck going to cycle? I'm deciding which of my freeps decks to combine it with....
