Title: Raider Initiative Wounding
Post by: legolas3333 on February 20, 2009, 07:02:39 AM
Here's one i dreamed up looking at old raider cards I had

34 Cards

Minions
3x Suzerain of Harad
4x Desert Runner
4x Desert Scout
4x Desert Sneak
4x Morgul Lurker
3x Southron Chieftain

Events
2x Red Wrath
2x Whirling Strike

Conditions
4x Harsh Tongues
4x Rout

So play all you rout and harsh tongues then get the wounding from desert runner, scout and sneak, archery with Suzerain of Harad, Morgul Lurker and Corsair Ballista.

this deck must have *** (it already got it  #-o) !

you should also think about:

- Fierce in Despair
- Raider Bow
- Red Wrath
- Desert Lord (with Seasoned Leader  )
- Whirling Strike

What's corsair ballista in there for? It says, 'Bearer must be a corsair.'
Besides that this deck looks pretty good!

Imho Red Wrath is much better than Whirling Strike. The Desert Lord/ Seasoned Leader combo is also nasty, though it does stray a little from the initiative theme. I really like the deck. Stuff like that is nasty. :gp:

i know it is but since the minions are kinda expensive i wanted to make sure there was something i could use with just a little twilight

Red Wrath is nice to surprise you opponent and kill a companion, but you have to have a free exertion. Against certain deck styles you may already be exhausted when you need it. Something to keep in mind when weighing pros and cons.

True, against archery Red Wrath kinda sucks. So I suppose Whirling Strike is better overall...   :-k

Red Wrath is incomplete without High Vantage... but it also suffers greatly to Rohan. Even so, I still use it.

I tried a deck somewhat like yours, and I found it very hard to get enough tokens on Harsh Tongues.  Against many decks the minions don't survive long enough to be spotted in regroup (at least in my experience).

I know Southron Chieftain may help you on the occasion that the Free Peoples player moves twice, but other than that what good is he?  All the opponent has to do is assign your initiative to wound minions before they assigns him...

He's mostly good for the double move prevention. Even if your Harsh Tongues gets discarded, you are still good to go.

Faelach you're right, but notice the Rout x4. All he has to do is make Southron chieftan get assigned and the freeps player is looking at 8 exertions on the double move. It's an effective stop that works even if no minions survive to regroup.

To make Southron Chieftan more relevant for the phase he's assigned, the intiative wounding guys need to be fierce. The addition of mumak and/or mumakil would be a great combo especially the latter, which become damage +1 when holding initiative.

Oh my God, pb. Mumakil is brilliant with those guys! I never even thought about that.

Consider Corsair Plunderer, Corsair Freebooter and Corsair Buccaneer. Corsair Plunderer being probably the best option, but others are also notable. Corsair War Galley might also be good. Much less susceptible to discard.

All you need to do is get 1 token on Harsh Tongues and then play a corsair to add 2 more.

Note that Corsair War Galley needs to spot a [Raider] Man to get you initiative.

I'm seriously considering making this deck with a few minor changes--getting a ROTK box in soon and can patch card holes with ccg-singles (rubbercarp).

One question. How should one play his Harsh Tongues?
Let's say you have one on the table that's been filled to 3 tokens yet you draw others. Should you play them and try to raise their token levels too? or would that be a waste of twilight all together or not? Because multiple could be removed at once (Fortress Never Fallen) or having an extra one filled to three tokens could be good backup against let's say Elrond's Vilya or Catapult.

Once I have a Harsh Tongues full of tokens, I don't mind any other at all, and just discard other copies during regroup, cus' lots of cards discard more than just one condition: Let us be Swift, Brooding on Tomorrow,    Secret Sentinels... that'0s the way I play, but everyone has his own style.

I once made a deck that used this and [sauron] wounding cards like orc bowmen and hate. If it set up right, it was brutal.
