Title: Database Autolinker
Post by: Kralik on May 05, 2008, 12:04:35 PM
At course, at some point I'd love for this to be automatically tied into the forums.

Recent improvements:
-Removed CUP and MAIN from linking
-Made it so Anarion, Lord of Anorien (http://lotrtcgdb.com/pages/LOTR00058.html) will link with or without (P) next to the title. Off the top of your head, do you know what other promos have no "regular" counterparts? If you list a few, I'll do the same to them as I did to Anarion (http://lotrtcgdb.com/pages/LOTR00058.html).

Redownload if you want it. Tell me if it links funny words, please.  8)

Also, I hopefully fixed the bug where it wouldn't work and would paste old info. Let me know if it still shows up!  :-\

Curse of the Fire Penguin (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=73956) links weird.

So does bureaucracy (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=9778).

Oh wait, that was me.

How does autolink work?

NB replied to my post in the Deck Clinic and listed an entire deck. None of the cards linked.

Ah, so the person posting has to have it running at the time of the post?

So there is a way? How far off are we?

Well, since the program works and many people have been using it, it's not high on my priority list until a few others basics are taken care of.

Kralik's playing around with the forums. And our heads. :clown:

No, seriously, he's trying to get autolinking working with the card database. Somehow it messed up several posts.

Several? Actually, for at least 5-10 minutes, ALL posts on the forum showed my nonsense message. ;)

Ack, I give up for tonight. I'm starting to hate PHP... since Hate is the only card it will link for me!

Eh, I know you'll get it. Keep your chin up, buddy.

In happier news, I found an awesome Hobbit-related theme that you guys can use now. To change to it (or any other theme than the default), go to your Profile -> Look and Layout Preferences. Right at the top, it will tell you your current theme. Click the link next to that called (Change) to--you guessed it!--change your theme. :)

Hobbit theme looks pretty good... is the forum title running into the picture on your computers as well? I could resize it. :)
Title: Re: What in the?!?!?
Post by: DáinIronfoot on May 07, 2008, 07:08:00 PM
Actually, on mine, it's off-center a bit, though I didn't notice at first. It does NOT run across the picture, but the little stylish border ends long before it probably should. Very close to where the picture of Bag End merges with the grayish-greenish-brownish color behind the title.

Yeah...kind of hard to describe. :P

Yeah, my title bar's a little off, too. But it actually doesn't look that bad, even so.

Um...it looks cool, but once I get back to the forum index I start to miss the default theme.

Basic autolink is working... more information later. I had to implement it in an odd way and I'm hoping it won't bog down the server... keep your fingers crossed!

LOL why has it assumed bog is bearer of grudges not just a word. Mental!

Obviously there will still be a few kinks to work out. :P But bravo, Kralik. Looks like it's going pretty well, finally.

Now mine's actually worse than last night. Hmmmm....

It's weird. "The Last Homely House" is centered, but the squiggly image below it doesn't start until below "House", with the "Hello ________" and other info not quite centered (skewed a little to the left) below THAT. Everything else seems to line up mostly alright, but that stuff at the top is a bit of an eyesore. I guess it changes depending on what resolution we have?

If everything's going to be linked automatically and seamlessly, you're going to have to remove a lot of the linking acronyms or it will start to get really annoying.

Like who would say 'bat' when they meant Boomed and Trumpeted?

Agreed. I'd say that unless it's a VERY common acronym (like RoD or BoO), it should probably be taken out. Perhaps just take ALL acronyms out until people complain, then add them back as necessary. :P
Title: Re: What in the?!?!?
Post by: Kralik on May 08, 2008, 08:42:13 AM
Taking out all acronyms would be troublesome.
BoG was on the abbreviations list and requested. I could make it case sensitive to distinguish between it and bog?
Others like bat and um can be quickly fixed. Just let me know!
Title: Re: What in the?!?!?
Post by: Thranduil on May 08, 2008, 08:53:30 AM
Yeah, I think case sensitive would be a good idea for most subtitle acronyms.

Title: Re: Database Autolinker

Well, I'll have to program it in by hand on a case-per-case basic because the entire code is case-insensitive. Just let me know which ones are troublesome. Already fixed bog.

Title: Re: Database Autolinker
Post by: Hobbit_Pizza on May 08, 2008, 10:25:21 AM
I found that the following didn't autolink:

Mouth of Sauron
Grima
Steward's Tomb
Gollum

I know...Mouth of Sauron, Grima, and Gollum are vague...
Is there any way if a card is unique (i.e. there may be more than one version of that card like most companions and some minions) and the poster just vaguely throws out the name without specifying which version, then autolink can just link to a search for that name?
Title: Re: Database Autolinker
Post by: Kralik on May 08, 2008, 10:34:46 AM
That's a distinct possibility, but it would take some work and, more importantly, an advanced search function that isn't yet programmed. I'll look into Steward's Tomb. Meanwhile, know that you can link to cards by their subtitle, such as Gollum DaD.

Right, seems like no cards with apostrophes are linking. Might take some fiddling...

Question on the autolinker- can we disable it in the MtG section? Its annoying that everytime we say "tap," it links to Theoden, Tall and Proud.
Title: Re: Database Autolinker
Post by: Kralik on May 08, 2008, 04:37:13 PM
I'll just remove tap... along with sat and fit.
Impossible to disable... bwa ha ha ha!

what about ow? is that one ;) but some of them need to be removed...the thing is though, its not like CC where it is capitalized and in a different font, so its not a huge deal.

Naw, it takes about 5-10 seconds (mostly waiting for the 600KB source code to load) for me to make a fix like that.

It's automatic now... the old program is being discontinued, but I will add a download link sometime for reference.
