A very long time ago, I got the Mount Doom Sam starter deck. And I built a deck with pretty much the same shadow side, but this time I had Sam, Great Elf Warrior and 8 other random hobbits.
Yes, I've decided to rebuild it. Hopefully its actually playable this time.

Pretty much, Sam becomes huge and then destroys everything thanks to brave and loyal. You can take back two events a turn with Bilbo, MH and Daddy Twofoot, and several other companions get to fairly high strengths too. The shadow can cycle with Grishnakh, Orc Runner, and orc Captain.

I wouldnt use Grishnakh, OC, because he has to spot a sauron orc, and you have few. Orc Runner is too weak for a beatdown deck, i think, maybe take them out too and go for 4x Orc Captain (hes not unique). He has to spot a condition, and you want Rank and File out very early, so Id use 3 or 4 of it. Uruk-hai Rampage need too much twilight, i wouldnt use. Maybe put a Sack of the Shire instead. If you want to control sites, maybe try Beaten Back or We Are the Fighting Uruk-hai.
Broad-bladed Sword is the best weapon for this deck, because it can protect a minion against wounding decks, and shagrat with broad blade, some tokens on Rank and File and a Sack of the Shire is really nice ;D
About the freepeoples... I just dont know too much about those standard cards... :P

Orc Armor, another Hobbit Sword, and O Elebeth Githionel!.
-
Throw in Sudden Fury, helps out the Businessmen.
-
-Bombadil- I didn't see that Grishnakh has to spot an orc. Changed it accordingly
I tested it out today against Imrahil's Strength Elves/Forestguls. The free-peoples side did better than I had expected, with Sam getting to 16 strength despite the fact that my conditions kept being discard. Chance Observation was a quick +10 event :uh-huh:.Seven We Had came just in time, getting rid of lost in the woods and would've gotten rid of other nasty [Nazgul] conditions had he not gotten to site nine so soon :).
Meanwhile, the shadow side got obliterated. Hadafang got rid of key conditions early, and when I got Grond out he killed everything at the start of the regroup phase with Gil-Galad, EHK. Orc Captain and Orc Runner didn't help much, and I never managed to control a site. :-|
Attack on Helm's Deep, Rank and File, and Grond all rely on discarding minions during the regroup phase. Is there something I could substitute them with?
-
I tested it again, this time against Imrahil's Forearmed elves/Forestgul Swarm. I went first, but I completely forgot to use Green Dragon Inn's effect to snag Bilbo. :-[ Without Bilbo I limped through the sites. Burdens were starting to accumulate, and I couldn't draw Sting, WoH. I relied on Filibert Bolger a lot. Imrahil wasn't drawing well at all, so my shadow side actually worked! I took control of 3 sites, and my hand didn't get clogged up. Finally, at site 7, I drew Bilbo and Sting at the same time, and it was a fairly easy double to site 9.
-
You could try a couple Shire Countrysides
-
I don't have Shire Countryside, so I'm using Rosie Cotton, HL with 2x Hobbit Party Guest and Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir. I can heal Sam three times a fellowship phase, and PEWI gets Rosie out early. Bilbo gets exerted a lot, but without Shire Countryside there's not much I can do against it.
-
How many would you need? I happen to have 1 extra.
-
A Talent for Not Being Seen and The Shire Countryside are x-listed in expanded... This is on casual format, so i dont know if youll want to use them or not...
And I just tought you could use Gimli, Lockbearer, Aragorn, Wingfoot and/or Legolas, Dauntless Hunter (this one is x-listed too)
If you stay on casual id say use dauntless hunter (+4 cost on events an conditions :o)
If not, maybe Lockbearer. And may change Narrow Escape for Wingfoot...
-
Wingfoot would be pretty interesting in this deck.... :uh-huh:
