The title says all. Manhattan, Kansas.

 @Ringbearer
This is a format our club came up with and we are still discusing other cards to Xand R.

 @TJ
Yeah, they're allowed. It's like open only no loops. :uh-huh:

@Lurtzy
The title says all. Manhattan, Kansas.

Sooo...that's either the biggest tournament in LotR history, or the smallest town on earth. A little specificity would be a good thing, yeah?
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Cliub tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: GarrisonofGondor on March 25, 2009, 06:32:21 PM
It's neither Hawk. It is a medium size town that is home Kansas State University and Manhattan Christian College. This is the first tournament in Manhattan. I am looking for suggestions on how to make it better.

So basically, it's you, and 3 or 4 of your friends and whoever else from (here) comes?
Or is it an actual tournament including anyone in the city who wants to play?

Post by: GarrisonofGondor on March 26, 2009, 06:16:51 PM
If my friends from Wichita come and you guys come, we'll have 10 to 11 people + anyone who sees the flyers we'll put up.
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Cliub tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: HawkeyeSPF on March 26, 2009, 06:37:46 PM
Much as I'd HATE the format, it's always a good thing to see organized play of any kind, so I say "WAY TO GO!"

Seriously, I'm more than happy to see you guys get something together. I hope more than just me and Mike show up to the CODCON Fellowship Block tourney, but chances of that are, well, slim.

Thumbs up all the way. Save up some money to go to GenCon next year and I'll hold a tournament with awesome prizes - RoS style I hope - just know that the format will be Standard.

June 6th is far enough away that I should be able to ask off that day. I'd love to come up and play again, as would two or three of my friends.

I'll pass the word along to them, and we'll see who would be interested in a road trip.

Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS

Now, I assume that you will divide it up into several 1 on 1 games. The winner of each game will advance, while the loser will move to the other side, kind of like this.

                                                     Player 1 vs Player 2
Loser of 1vs2  vs Loser of 3vs4                                           Winner of 1vs2 vs Winner of 3vs4
                                                      Player 3 vs Player 4

                                                      Player 5 vs Player 6
Loser of 5vs6 vs Loser of 7vs8                                             Winner of 5vs6 vs Winner of 7vs 8
                                                      Player 7 vs Player 8

Winner of 1vs2 vs 3vs4 vs Winner of 5vs6 vs 7vs8

and so on?

The 1st and 2nd place Loser on one side get a consolation prizes, and the the 1st and 2nd place Winners get a prize as well?

Why in God's name would you do it bracket style? Swiss pairings has always worked just fine for everybody else.

Then again, if there aren't many of you in the tournament, I'd just have everybody play 1 game against everybody else, then a final confrontation between the top two finishers to determine a final winner.

What is Swiss-Pairings?
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS

We will do seedings but we will draw out of a hat for each persons seed.

We will pair up on seedings, but then what happens to the losers (As I most definitely have a good shot at.)
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: GarrisonofGondor on March 28, 2009, 06:39:40 AM
Its kind of like a 8 team basketball bracket. If you lose you go to the left side and if you win you go to the right.

could you provide tokens and such?

Everybody plays everybody else and whoever has the most wins is the champion. Howerver, we only have 5 hours.

We each will bring a set of tokens and set them on different tables.

I think I may come. Now to decide which deck to play...

Actually, Hawkeyes, Kansas does have a massive LotR community. Menace and GoG of course, then a bunch of my friends who aren't on the forums play too. Then, of course, there's people up in Manhattan, and then I guess some people will be coming in from Iowa too...

Don't forget Agent Drake and BullroarerIoG. Agent Drake is the one who started everybody on Lotr. Also, Vengence is one of four brothers from Wichita who all play. NBarden, don't forget about Treavor and his brother.

yeah its starting to look like myself and A_E will make it...theres a chance of BtO, but he doesn't do much anymore...my question is, if NB and I are in the same room, would the spamming energies destroy something?
perhaps the fabric of the space time continuum>?

We have a tight knit LotR community. Sort of. Within about 4-5 blocks total, there are 8 players. 1 of them recently starting, 3 of them stopping though.  :'(

I know nothing about E!U...so that'll be fine ;)
my question is, should we ban any other hunters block cards? especially since myself and A_E don't have hunters block? I'm sure others won't as well...like prized lagan for example?

And Ben, whose stopping?

Wait so how many people can come from Iowa? SoP, we are playing expanded. You can use any card that is no X-listed.
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS

Do we have to use the same deck through the entire tournament?
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: GarrisonofGondor on March 28, 2009, 11:24:04 AM
No. You enter with 3 decks and play with a different deck each time.
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: sickofpalantirs on March 28, 2009, 08:19:57 PM
((keep the spam to a minimum guys...that conversation can be carried through PM or not at all.  and A_E, peter plays more than anyone else aside from me, and nathan plays when he has time))

I'd put the three deck thing in front...and no, right now the only certain one is ben, though once he gets his plans finalized, I can probably convince my parentals to let me go as well.

I'd love to come. Except there's the drive... ...and I don't think I have a standard deck. The only good card shop around closed down a year or two ago, and it was over 100 miles away.

@Garrison: You'd have what, 7 of your friends with you? And I'm sure you'd have a few of your friend's parents around.
I wouldn't worry.  ;)

The 3 deck thing I don't really like. I'm talking to Garrett right now, he may come, and I think that the one deck thing would be best.

Because he only has one deck haha. And I've only got 1 deck that I'd trust in expanded. Actually, I have 2, but one of them uses proxy cards because I didn't want to shell out $12 for a Gorn's Bow, RL.

We can just take a vote on how to do the deck thing. One of the guys in the club also has only one deck so IDK how to do it.
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: sickofpalantirs on March 29, 2009, 10:14:01 AM
I don't like just one deck...it really hampers everything...I could work with 3...I'd say you can use 1-3 the whole day, just depending on how they do and the play environment.
Title: Re: Barrow-Wright Club tournament June 6th, Manhattan KS
Post by: GarrisonofGondor on March 29, 2009, 10:18:58 AM

I run 8-man draft SANCTIONED tournaments. We need a tournament organizer and a Judge, at least. That`s, like, 10 people. We usually have other people around, for coverage and stuff (mainly to hang out, but they DO make a coverage every now and then... ;) ).

Exactly. There are some real cool home-school families. Like mine for example. Social. Bam. Is that not 'supposedly' the biggest problem that other people have with homeschoolers?

And then of course you have SoP. Nothing wrong with his family. Just him.

Nah, I think the format should be straight-up expanded.

 Here is what's going on.

I called the church to reserve it for June 6th. Unfortunatly, the fee to use it is $25. So, if I up the entry fee to $7, to help pay for the facillity, would everyone still be willing to come? I need to know ASAP.

P.S. The format is Expanded with no changes.

I may be able to get there. :P If no unforeseen crisis arises (which actually is pretty likely considering my life right now) and there's no concert.

That all depends on who comes.

I can make it on the sixth, and I would be ok if I had to pay $7.

Okay, here is the problem. I am having a hard time with this. I can't seem to get parental supervision. If people I don't know, but everybody who comes I know, we don't need parents. Solution?

You have two solutions: don't have the tournament, or hire big bulky security guards.
