Post by: Vroengard on April 02, 2009, 04:29:00 AM
hahaa check that:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vMKN1tYknE

as a friend showed me that '''movie''', afraid to call that thing an movie either, I just did not believe it, that there are people out there that create something like that and even earn money with it! Unbelievable, reminds me of the uncut version of fallout 3. the only game I willingly bought the cut version.

maybe you can post your worst movies here, god but this is my number one in the line with that old godzilla stuff

Disaster Movie by a long shot. I got dragged to see it by my younger brother. Didn't laugh once. Truly shocking.

X-men 3 was great...Beast was in it and our Dutch Glory, Famke as Jean was ace of course...haha....
I meant Titanic with Leonardo and Kate indeed....fast forward has been the most used button during that movie. Best part? When Leonardo sunk to the bottom...Don't know, maybe I just envied him for all the ladies' attention went to him...and I was in the period of time in my life where I was eager to have some feminine attention, ;D

Why?
Title: Re: worst movie ever seen
Post by: veBu on April 03, 2009, 08:22:13 PM
My English-knowledge isn't good enough to describe why it's the worst movie I have ever seen, I could write dissertation in Finnish why this concerned movie sucked but now that I'm writing here I just have to try to describe with one word or so, what would it be? hmmm... Plot? Yeah, that and everyting else... It seems like you have seen this movie but I suggest you check it again and really think about it, #%&$ that movie suck... Ok, there have been bunch of movies that I have start to watch but I haven't never seen them all the way so maybe some of those could top this piece of crap but I haven't seen those from beginning to end so I really can't criticize em
Title: Re: worst movie ever seen

that is my favorite movie. the village. but honestly, you have to know before you watch it that it is not horror, it is more love story/suspense. otherwise, you're screwed

I dislike the Village too - the end is really strange. Matrix 2 is horrible. Furthers are Waterworld, Amadeus, Nibelungs -Curse of the Ring (strange title, completely different in original)

Amadeus!?  I think that movie is great!

Vroengard I have to concur on The Patriot.  I love Braveheart, and when the Patriot came out it seemed like the same thing... only set during the American Revolution, and just much much worse.

I couldn't stand Heath Ledger from that point on, until The Dark Knight of course.

The Patriot is atrocious, horribly innacurate and pointless tosh. Independence Day isnt terrible but its nothing special, Hollywood bravado.

Harriet the Spy - I fell asleep during this film
Daredevil
Elektra
Mission Impossible 3... I cant handle this film at all. Tom Cruise makes me angry

It's funny how Europeans hate american patriotism movies.
Title: Re: worst movie ever seen

Independence Day is technically an aweful film. Illogical and silly plot, bad script, bad SFX. I kinda have a soft spot for it though cos when I saw it at the age of 7 I thought it was great. The reason Europeans dislike it so much is mostly that whole ending sequence where the American President makes that aweful speech where he basically forces an American holiday upon us followed by the scene where the Americans inform a whole bunch of bad steriotypes that they need no longer fear cos the Americans have worked out how to win the day through a completely illogical plot device.

I didn't mean it in a serious way Mr Lurtzy I was just getting at how its an extremely silly film at heart yet tries desperately to be serious.

It's funny how Europeans hate american patriotism movies.

It is just in almost every movie... the president is under attack, the only cities existing seem to be those in the states and the all mighty military saves us all .. that's why I love movies like V for Vendetta. a british movie (you feel it in the first 10 minutes, good plot and more ''literate'' dialogues)
and that LOTR is an movie from new zealand you recognize very fast.

The Star Wars prequels were pretty bad. Who knew the story of Anakin's fall to the dark side would be filled with so much wince-inducing dialogue, general emo-ness, one Jar Jar Binks, and a #%!@ wardrobe closet. (But McDiarmid was as awesome as ever.)

patriot does take a few serious jabs at the British....
Title: Re: worst movie ever seen
Post by: turin08 on April 05, 2009, 02:38:14 PM
But its never really the jibes that annoy us, especially not ones in a film set 200 years ago or whatever. Its more the fact that whenever a non-American appears in a film they are always a bad steriotype bearing very little resemblance to what we are actually like.
Title: Re: worst movie ever seen
Post by: TheJord on April 05, 2009, 03:39:47 PM
I can take the jibes... the British did some horrible things, but I'm fairly certain it wasnt just us. The character he portrayed in that film was a RAPIST in real life! Bloody Mel Gibson and his ridiculous films.

Btw, William Wallace is a fictional character hahaha!

Epic Movie <--- TERRIBLE

pretty much all those spoof movies are critically ridiculed.

Some people may claim William Wallace is a real person, but his actual existence (or his existence in anyway related to the character Mel Gibson created) is probably 0.

Disaster Movie, Epic Movie etc etc

A film I watched that was rubbish and made me feel like crap was The Hills Have Eyes. It wasnt scary, just mentally disturbing. I turned it off after half an hour.

it was all bad tactics ;) though arguably, the poles put up a better fight than they did ;)

The Complete Military History of France.

- Gallic Wars
- Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian. [Or at ths time in history, a Roman -ed.]

- Hundred Years War
- Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman." Sainted.

- Italian Wars
- Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.

- Wars of Religion
- France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots

- Thirty Years War
- France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

- War of Revolution
- Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.

- The Dutch War
- Tied

- War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War
- Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.

- War of the Spanish Succession
- Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.

- American Revolution
- In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."

- French Revolution
- Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.

- The Napoleonic Wars
- Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

- The Franco-Prussian War
- Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

- World War I
- Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States [Entering the war late -ed.]. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

- World War II
- Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

- War in Indochina
- Lost. French forces plead sickness; take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu

- Algerian Rebellion
- Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.

- War on Terrorism
- France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.

The question for any country silly enough to count on the French should not be "Can we count on the French?", but rather "How long until France collapses?"

"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. All you do is leave behind a lot of noisy baggage."

Or, better still, the quote from last week's Wall Street Journal: "They're there when they need you."

And more from the thread:
With only an hour and a half of research, Jonathan Duczkowski provided the following losses:

Norse invasions, 841-911.
After having their way with the French for 70 years, the Norse are bribed by a French King named Charles the Simple (really!) who gave them Normandy in return for peace. Normans proceed to become just about the only positive military bonus in France's [favour] for next 500 years.

Andrew Ouellette posts this in response:

1066 A.D. William The Conquerer Duke and Ruler of France Launches the Largest Invasion in the history of the world no other was as large until the same trip was taken in reverse on June 6th 1944 William Fights Harold for the Throne of England Which old king Edward rightfully left to William but Harold Usurped the throne Will fights the Saxons (English)wins and the French Rule England for the Next 80 Years. then the French start the largest building and economic infrastructure since the fall of the Roman Empire the Norman Economy skyrockets and the Normans inadvertantly start England to become a major world Power Vive La France-

Matt Davis posts this in response to Andrew Ouellette above:

Oh dear. We seem to have overlooked some basic facts. Firstly, Philip the First (1060 - 1108) was King of France at the time of the Norman invasion of 1066 - William was Duke of Normandy and, incidentally, directly descended from the Vikings. William was, therefore, as alien to France as the experience of victory. Since Philip did not invade England, the victory at Hastings was Norman - not French. Normandy may be a part of France now but it most certainly wasn't in 1066. Therefore, William's coronation as King of England had nothing whatsoever to do with the French. As usual, they were nowhere near the place when the fighting was going on. The mistaken belief that 1066 was a French victory leads to the Third Rule of French Warfare; "When incapable of any victory whatsoever - claim someone else's".

Mexico, 1863-1864.
France attempts to take advantage of Mexico's weakness following its thorough thrashing by the U.S. 20 years earlier ("Halls of Montezuma"). Not surprisingly, the only unit to distinguish itself is the French Foreign Legion (consisting of, by definition, non-Frenchmen). Booted out of the country a little over a year after arrival.

Panama jungles 1881-1890.
No one but nature to fight, France still loses; canal is eventually built by the U.S. 1904-1914.

Napoleonic Wars.
Should be noted that the Grand Armee was largely (~%50) composed of non-Frenchmen after 1804 or so. Mainly disgruntled minorities and anti-monarchists. Not surprisingly, these performed better than the French on many occasions.

Haiti, 1791-1804.
French defeated by rebellion after sacrificing 4,000 Poles to yellow fever. Shows another rule of French warfare; when in doubt, send an ally.

India, 1673-1813.
British were far more charming than French, ended up victors. Therefore the British are well known for their tea, and the French for their whine (er, wine...). Ensures 200 years of bad teeth in England.

Barbary Wars, middle ages-1830.
Pirates in North Africa continually harass European shipping in Meditteranean. France's solution: pay them to leave us alone. America's solution: kick their #$&*@! ("the Shores of Tripoli"). [America's] first overseas victories, won 1801-1815.

1798-1801, Quasi-War with U.S.
French privateers (semi-legal pirates) attack U.S. shipping. U.S. fights France at sea for 3 years; French eventually cave; sets precedent for next 200 years of Franco-American relations.

Moors in Spain, late 700s-early 800s.
Even with Charlemagne leading them against an enemy living in a hostile land, French are unable to make much progress. Hide behind Pyrennes until the modern day.

French-on-French losses (probably should be counted as victories too, just to be fair):

1208: Albigenses Crusade, French massacared by French.
When asked how to differentiate a heretic from the faithful, response was "Kill them all. God will know His own." Lesson: French are badasses when fighting unarmed men, women and children.

St. Bartholomew Day Massacre, August 24, 1572.
Once again, French-on-French slaughter.

Third Crusade.
Philip Augustus of France throws hissy-fit, leaves Crusade for Richard the Lion Heart to finish.

Seventh Crusade.
St. Louis of France leads Crusade to Egypt. Resoundingly crushed.

[Eighth] Crusade.
St. Louis back in action, this time in Tunis. See Seventh Crusade.

Also should be noted that France attempted to hide behind the Maginot line, sticking their head in the sand and pretending that the Germans would enter France that way. By doing so, the Germans would have been breaking with their traditional route of invading France, entering through Belgium (Napoleonic Wars, Franco-Prussian War, World War I, etc.). French ignored this though, and put all their effort into these defenses.

Thomas Whiteley has submitted this addition to me:

Seven year War 1756-1763
Lost: after getting hammered by Frederick the Great of Prussia (yep, the Germans again) at Rossbach, the French were held off for the remainder of the War by Frederick of Brunswick and a hodge-podge army including some Brits. War also saw France kicked out of Canada (Wolfe at Quebec) and India (Clive at Plassey).

Richard Mann, an American in France wants to add the following:

The French consider the departure of the French from Algeria in 1962-63, after 130 years on colonialism, as a French victory and especially consider C. de Gaulle as a hero for 'leading' said victory over the unwilling French public who were very much against the departure. This ended their colonialism. About 2 million ungrateful Algerians lost their lives in this shoddy affair.

I may be attacked by a bunch of screaming girls for this but... ... TWILIGHT there I said it I hate anything that has to with that movie and book series(but not anyone affiliated with as my own mother is a fan.) a chick-flick vampire movie WHO KNEW!!!

Really? Haven't seen the movie, but I liked the book quite a bit. Pretty unique in its own way.

Nah, it's not chick-flick. It's a... love story. And there's a difference.

FM, the movie was a bit disappointing IMO, but still overall not a bad film.

The Patriot is atrocious, horribly innacurate and pointless tosh.
You're just still sore about 1776. Get over it.

We would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling French.

Everyone loves the Frenchies.

I thought In The Name Of The King was pretty good, actually.

If you don't like "Star Wars" you just have a different taste in movies.
If you don't like "The Lord of the Rings" you don't understand art.
If you love Twilight and/or High School Musical.............  :-|

Aaaaaaaand I've just seen Twilight. Surely, the book is a MILLION times better (seriously, I recommend it, very well written, and very unique), but the movie is not bad, really. Aside from Charlie, Eric and Angela, I think the characterization was really good. Maybe Emmett could look less "american-pie-dork-ish", but it's still fine.

I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I saw the trailer and the script looked terrible. Oh well.

Have to say I disagree Felipe, from the little I read of the book the writing style seemed terribly amateur, but then again the target audience was definately not me.  Whenever the main character can spend four pages in a bathroom getting made up, I will find the book hard to take seriously.

Plus Myers makes up a bunch of random vampire facts, which I find, as a purist, quite offensive. :-)

Think that Twilight seems to do a good job at what it aims to do... which is appeal to the 16yr old girl.

Once I found out what happens in the series I decided it wasn't worth struggling through the writing style.
1 - I don't like romantic novels
2 - I don't care for things geared towards teens
3 - I really like vampires, but they should NEVER be the good guy.

but that's imho

I have to agree on the vampire myths part. Daylight walking is lame, and in the movie it's turned ever LAMER! But I like how the Blade series adresses vampires, and Blade is the goody guy, so I'm kinda torn on THIS issue.

Eragon did suck.
Twilight, not so much. Anything they did bad in the movie was fully made up for when I found a Paramore music video in the special features section of the DVD. Paramore ROCKS! \m/

YESSS; big time.....I am one of the greatest fans of the books (somehow you might recognize it....aheem)
I was completely stunned as I saw that piece of dirt....bad actors, nothing, NOTHING, was as in the book!! low budget crap. what was paolini thinking?? not even elves, dwarves or the really intellectual parts of paolinis great books! I completely wanted to forget this film, yes, it must be listed....hope there will be no second movie. galbatorix as an normal dumb, evil ''I gonna kill you all'' stereotype king. they did not understand the message of the book

Ah, it brought up the Star Wars-Inheritance cycle similarities. Centurion and I created some parody names for the similar characters:

Luke and Eragon become Laragon Skyslayer.

Obi-Wan and Brom become Obi-Brom-Kenobi.

Princess Leia and Arya become Princess Leiarya.

Yoda and Oromis become Yodoromis.

Han Solo/Darth Vader and Murtagh become Darth Vurtagh.

R2-D2 and Sapphira become SapphiraD2.

Emperor Palpatine and Galbatorix become Emperor Palpatorix.

Grand Moff Tarken and Durza become Grand Moff Durkin.

Sickos.

The new Marvel movies are great.  The reason for the jump in quality is that Marvel now has its own production company and so is now making their own movies instead of going through some other company.  You can see the better quality with the new films such as Iron Man, Incredible Hulk.

Oh and actually Batman is DC not Marvel, though I think you were grouping the whole comic lot together.

Dunno which company, Dc or Marvel, i just meant the genre. Someone mutates, aka Plutonium or Uran..tasty
Worst of all: Fantastic 4.
