great but uh you have to have at least 30 cards... and only 4 Watcher in the Water period, not 4 of each

Yeah add the extra 9 cards which will allow you to add

4x Captured by the Ring
4x Horribly Strong
1x Gollum

Or replace the Horribly Strong with Led Astray for more twilight and site manipulation, Evil Smelling Fens for all Marsh sitepath

Tentacles dont typically mind large decks

I don't really like Dark Places, it only gives your watcher a bonus and the site-swapping text doesn't work with the new sites. I would run a full set each of Foul Tentacle and Huge Tentacle, though.

It doesn't? And I'm trying to get 4 Foul Tentacles and 4 Huge Tentacles.

Yes but you have 8x Watcher this is not legal in any format....

You will have to remove at least 4 Watcher's from the deck, making it 28. The rules state you cannot have more than 4 copies of any card, and that includes unique cards.

I am talking about adding a Gollum package to your deck so you get threats and some easy Shadow wounding. Evil Smelling Fens means all the sites will be Marsh which you need, plus its secondary ability could start a nice Tentacle swarm.

I assume your deck is designed which cards you have in real life, and which ones you are yet to have...?

Ok, I understand now.

Good idea. I'll would need at least 2 more card anyway.

I only have 5.

If this works properly, it could be deadly.  Assuming enough twight light, leading off with a Foul tenticle could lead to a total of 4 Foul Tenticles, a huge tenticle and a Watcher.  I am not sure on the wisdom of the Dark Places.  Something like Troubled Mountains or Dangerous Gamble may be helpful to increase the twight light pool.

Also...You might consider using 2x of each watcher, so that if your opponent is manipulating sites, you can still get your tentacles into play...and won't be as easily choked.

Evil smelling Fens is a good idea, except with namarie it won't last long... I would probably still use 1x or 2x ESF just incase your opponent isn't packing condition removal...

this is a deck that has once killed the Infamous Fruitloops  :uh-huh: haha, it is annoying to NB I guess that I never offered him a rematch for we both know the odds are slim I will pull that one off again.

I liked this deck, because it ennabled me to play the tentacles over and over again with the Watcher...don't play the Mines of Moria one, seriously, don't

yeah, the old watcher sucks, take maybe one old and 3 new.

Can the text of Many-Tentacled Creature be used more than once?  If so, I understand the aurgument why it is better.  I still don't think the ability of Keeper of Westgate should be overlooked entirely.  It gives a boost to every tentacle in play and a damage boost.  If playing the combo with Foul Tenticles leading to Huge Tenticles and then the Watcher, the damage and strength boosts would be helpful.

although i never played tentacles they seem to me very strong.

infact of that, i'm only able to guess what's useful or not. i'd run a gollum engine including evil-smelling fens, led astray, sweeter meats and maybe deceit + incited.

why? to have any chance if you get the lucky lot facing a choke and/or a direct damange deck.

He Does not sucks! Imagine all your tentacles get +2 str. and dam. +1.

That's awesome. The good thing about the other watcher is that you'll be on a march and you can play tentacles from your discardpile. If you got ESF on table + deceit then the old watcher rules. Just imagine
Old Watcher + 4 foul tentacles + 4 reaching tentacles + 1 Strong tentacles it only needs about 23 pool. Believe me you'll have that if your opponent moves more then once... and your #$&*@! will be kicked. We (the people in Amsterdam) played this in multiplayer and single-player format and it really hurts. Most times you'll have it on table between site 5 and 7.
Weakness is that if you haven't kill them by then you probably won't at all....

but new one is way better....you get to play all the tentacles from your discardpile....no-one will run vs you, cause they know with too much pool, they will swarm you....

Post by: Snazzy on April 27, 2009, 01:27:45 PM
Ok, maybe 2 of each watcher would be snazziest. Good idea, silver.telperion. I would need twilight.
Title: Re: Dream Tentacle Deck

Sweeter Meats and Incited will be pointless as Gollum is not a Tentacle and therefore will be discarded.

If a card is discarded when it comes into play, effects triggered by this are ignored (e.g. "When you play..." / "Each time you play..."). Does the same apply to regular costs/effects? A good deal of wishful thinking here, but I'm wondering if So Polite still adds twilight if the Watcher is in play. :P

I would assume with the Watcher in play and a Gollumin the discard pile, So Polite could still be played.  The effect would be playing Gollum (an paying cost) and then immediatedly discarding him.  I am not certain, but that is how I'd view it.

It just depends on the situation.

it is very easy to understand my friend, why the new is way better, example:

you+not get your sites to play+ no evil smelling fens draw= deck won't work, not even a bit, cause all tentacles discard.

I think this makes it very clear....

you may not rely on 4 conditions, if they git discardee, all tentacles die and your oponent just laughs, like I would do;)

Better an weak watcher as no watcher, eh?

Good point. But if I play 2 player games, (which I do most the time) then I just go second and play all my sites. Or I could run a Free Peoples side which is made to play the next site.

If you play expanded and you've got Deceit out on table..who's gonna be discarded? Ghostbusters.. oh chips wrong movie :D

If the So Polite thing works, you could save up all 4 copies for a twilight bomb. You'd need at least 3 threats for a net gain (Gollum himself costs 2), with a net max of 4 x 7 = 28 twilight.

That is, if twilight generation is desired. Otherwise I'd run the new Watcher and add every tentacle in sight, along with ESF (in case the Watcher gets killed) and Gollum (to key off ESF for more Watchers).

I don't like the idea of Gollum in this deck because he only helps with some cards and is discarded by the Watcher. What's the point of so polite if I don't have any way of adding threats? If I do put Fat One Wants It in this deck, it would be like a 1/10 chance I draw it.

this deck is hard to play also in general (not to play but to win against an strong fellowship), this makes it even more difficult to work.

It's a swarm deck, not a powerhouse deck.

Unfortunately FOWI won't work if the Watcher is in play already, since that's definitely an effect "triggered" when a minion is played. I'll let you guys know though if the resident rules guru axes the SP idea.

Threat generation can be handled by Captured by the Ring, FOWI (just play Gollum before the Watcher), and even City Gates. Extending the Gollum package further, Led Astray adds additional twilight and can replay sites like Cavern Entrance for multiple swarm attempts.

But right, it does depend on how well the FP can cycle to assemble these cards. It might be more trouble than it's worth. There is an HKotN / Leaving Forever loop to draw your entire deck if you wanted, but that Elf is expensive and I guess kind of cheesy. :P

 This isn't a threat-powered deck or a Gollum deck.

It still works. And besides that.. You'll play gollum before you play watcher!

A hobbitdeck with 19rsmeagol will do fine!
