Title: Age's End
Post by: jdizzy001 on May 18, 2009, 05:31:05 PM
Are the fellowship companions from Age's End anygood in a 9 walkers deck?  I keep trying different techniques but fail miserably every time.  Does anyone have suggestions?

I think that most of the fellowship companions are not as good compared to other versions available of the same companions. The Aragorn and Boromir are OK but there are way better versions to use...

IMO the ages end Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli should not be bothered with.

But you must be talking about expanded format if you want to use the 9 walkers, I really don't know too much about this as I mainly play standard format.

I just meant in general.  I've noticed that they work well in very specific decks, but are nearly useless together.  Aragorn WTG, for example, works amazingly well in a defender deck.  I do agree about Legolas and Gimli though.  Gandalf on the other hand... Give him enough vitality and your opponent will have a hard time using events.

Yeah Gandalf can be very useful canceling events.  I use him in my Gandalf Men deck where he isn't the focus of skirmishing.

Pippin is ridiculously strong.

Yeah, I can see that Pippin being abused. With the tales in Reflections and FotR there are some fun things you can do.

A buddy of mine did that too.  He was able to boost pippin up passed 30 in his strength.  My jaw hit the floor...

So, I'm guessing we can't use AE companions together then?  That's two is pretty good, especially in a multiplayer game.

I did and I think MuadDib is very wrong in his comment, because so far it's my strongest deck sincemy dauntless hunter/beasterlingsdeck (Dauntless hunter with only the hobbits, smeagol and legolas).

I actually never lost a game with it and others who played with my deck didn't lost either. The reason I didn't won the Amsterdam tournament was that I didn't play Discostu and I lost the first round using a different deck. For those who weren't there: the tournament had different formats in specific rounds so people were forced to use different decks. I used 3 different decks at that tournament. Round 3, 4 5 & 6 I used my Ages End deck.
Though I must say that the reason I won these matches are because of the shadow, which controlls assignments.

well from my head it should contain:

•The One Ring, The Great Ring
•Frodo, Little Master

•Merry, Resolute Friend
•Pippin, Steadfast Friend
•Boromir, Destined Guide

•Gimli, Lord of the Glittering Caves
•Legolas, Skeptical Guide
4x •Gandalf, Wise Guide
•Sam, Loyal Friend
•Aragorn, Thorongil or •Aragorn, Well-traveled Guide  (depends on my mood)
4x Strength In My Blood
4x A Dragon's Tale
Scouring of the Shire
•Anduril, Sword That Was Broken
•Sting, Elven Long Knife
•Shadowfax, Greatest of the Mearas
2x Hobbit Sword
•Blade of Gondor, Sword of Boromir
4x Hope is Kindled
4x Everyone Knows
•Gandalf's Staff, Ash-Staff

3x•Ulaire Nertea, Dark Horseman
3x •Ulaire Toldea, Dark Shadow
3x •Ulaire Enquea, Dark Threat
4x •Grima, Servant of Another Master
2x •Mauhur, Relentless Hunter
2x •Lurtz, Halfling Hunter
2x •Bill Ferny, Agent of Saruman
3x •Alatar Deceived
3x •Pallando Deceived
•Radagast Deceived
2x •Staff of Saruman, Fallen Istar's Stave
4x •Saruman, of Many Colours
3x •Throne of Isengard

Why just one "Scouring of the Shire" you might ask. Well in Amsterdam we have an agreement that it is restricted to just one.  But sometimes I try something else in shadow or fellowship: Sometime I make room for faithfull stone or I use a different sting. And most times I like to make room for  one "Citadel to Gate".  In that case I take out hobbit swords.
