Title: Taking a whack at Fiend
Post by: SomeRandomDude on June 02, 2008, 08:09:18 PM
So, I know the Fiend is broken. And I love broken decks. But I've never really made a Fiend deck (Fruit Loops/Infi Gandy and Fiend don't really work that well together). So, here goes.

Ring-bearer and Ring
Frodo, Resolute Hobbit
The One Ring, The Ring of Rings

Free Peoples (32)
Aldred, Eored Soldier
Gamling, Defender of the Hornburg
Merry, Swordthain
Smeagol, Scout and Guide

Erkenbrand’s Horn
Gamling’s Horn
New Chapter
Something Slimy

Elendil’s Army
Faramir’s Company
Gondorian Servant, Denethor’s Handman
Deagol, Fateful Finder
Meneldor, Misty Mountain Eagle
Gwaihir, The Windlord
Alatar, Final Envoy
Pallando, Far-travelling One
Radagast, Tender of Beasts
Robin Smallburrow, SCR
Daddy Twofoot, Next-Door Neighbor
The Gaffer, Master Gardener
Hobbiton Brewer, Maker of Fine Ales
Hobbiton Farmer, Lover of Pipeweed
Dinendal, Mirkwood Archer
Rohirrim Doorwarden
Rohan Stable Master x4
Rohan Worker x4

Typical Gamling's Horn auto-filter. 32 cards. Pretty small.

Mordor Fiend
Troll of Gorgoroth, Abomination of Sauron
Great Hill Troll x 4
Orc Butcher x 4
Orc Ambusher x 4
Orc Pursuer x 4

The Dark Lord's Summons x 4
Their Marching Companies x 4
Troop Tower
Great Siege-Towers x 4

Forces of Mordor

Okay, so the strategy is basically once you've filtered your deck, drop Fiend and The Dark Lord's Summons. Draw your deck. Play your engines, drop 5 free trolls, having managed the fiend's twilight so you have exactly 3 twilight and then add his extra 5. Drop 2 Ambushers, now no roaming, used 5 twilight. Drop 3 more minions with the remainind [3] to have 11 minions out. Decent swarm? How about Forces of Mordor to add 11, allowing you to drop your 4 Butchers and other 3 minions? 18 minion swarm?

Result:

1 Strength 14 fierce guy
4 Strength 16 fierce guys
4 Strength 19 guys
1 Strength 9 guys
4 Potentially strength 10 guys
4 Strength 5 guys.

Here's another idea. Fiend + Forces of Mordor + Seize 4 sites + Encirclement = every single Sauron minion twilight cost 2 or less. Once you've draw your deck....

It works.

How do you manage to use Encirclements ability?

Well...it requires a different deck type. You need to seize 2 sites, then all your [1] minions are free. Seize 2 sites, all [2] minions are free. Not as reliable, but you can hypothetically turn out 20+ minion swarms.

and that is why I'm trying to building this deck with real cards. That is just sick, LOL.

I understand everthing except this: how are POSSITIVE you pull Fiend first hand?

You're not. But, you filter the deck down to an 8/32 or a 1 in 4 chance of having it in hand by site 2. 25% chance it gets to your 8 card hand. Chance of the Dark Lord's Summons is, like, massive. So, you will probably draw the Dark Lord's Summons. Then, you use it to dig for Fiend, quite possibly pulling the combo off at site 2 ANYWAYS, or at least site 3.

But even if you don't pull it off till later, its pretty evil.

How can you be sure to pull both horns? Because it would be dangerous for your draw deck because of Dark Lord's Summons.

You only NEED Erkenbrands Horn. Gamling's means no one can overwhelm the RB. But you will likely discard it if you get Fiend at site 2 with The Dark Lord's Summons.

Actually, Deagol ensures that you nab it. Attach it to Gamling and voila!

Should replace the Orc Pursuer with some Orc Guard to discard FP condition and why not throw in an Advance Captain so all your roaming minion are damage +1 (massive woundings on the RB ) OR Advance Regular to gain fierce for everyone. Also, could maybe use some Gorgoroth Assassin instead of Orc Butcher; it's a weaker minion but you can assign it to an unbound companion to ensure the bigger minnions will go on the RB. An Ithil stone could come in handy too to play an extra minion if you're short on twilight token  :uh-huh:.

Well, firt time I heard about this deck and I'm going to try it at least once against my friends... not sure they will be pleased! Def. broken but it's a clever design anyway!

Zoskan the point of this deck is to play every minion in your deck at site 2. You dont really need fierce as between 12 and 17 minions are going on the RB guaranteed totalling about 120+ strength. True damage +17 would be nice but its highly unlikely the RB will survive the onslaught. Plus a lot of the trolls are fierce anyway!!

Why not using 4x forces of mordor ?

Its restricted, even in Open

it is strange... to have restricted cards in a format where you can play 'everything'...as if that convinces people to play Open :S

Should consider to have some Advance Scout in the deck. Why? You need to spot an [Sauron] minion to be able to play most of the conditions. Also, if you draw cards with tDLS and get your hand on your key card (Mordor Fiend), you're able to discard Advance Scout from play so you can use Fiend's text (he needs to be the only minion in play to use his text).

As much as this deck can be a real killer, if Fiend is at the bottom of your deck it's gonna be hard to win with a massive swarm. But with Advance Scout I think we might improve furthermore the chance of success.

actually fiend is broken. so let's play traveled leader after you played your hole deck.  so, fiend IN THIS! deck isn't broken anymore.

edit... for those who do not understand: change the current site into caras galadhon

That's actually a sweet idea.

Nah, Advance Scout is too slow. The deck will be completely cycled before the Fiend is drawn, almost every single time. So he just takes up room.
