Title: Question about starting Fellowships
Post by: GarrisonofGondor on May 23, 2009, 05:20:11 PM
 Help me!

 I think these Starting Fellowships aren't legal, so, are they or aren't they?

 Frodo, Courteous Halfling w/ ATAR
 Faramir, Captain of Gondor
 Mablung, Soldier of Gondor

 Frodo, Courteous Halfling w/ ATAR
 Alcarin, Warrior of Lamendon
 Turgon, Man of Belfalas

 I say theuy aren't, but everybody on GCCG( that I've talked to) Say otherwise.

 WHO IS RIGHT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, those are fine. You have to play companions in an order, so you choose the order that works. In the first case, you play Faramir for [3], then he makes Mablung cost [1] --> [4]. In the second case you play Alcarin whose cost is [2] in your starting fellowship, then Turgon who can spot Alcarin to play also for [2] --> [4]. Obviously if you played those cards in the other order, it would not work, but the fact that there is an order that does work means they are legal starting fellowships.

I'd say definitely yes.  What is your explanation for why they are not legal?

--> Lay down Faramir first, then Mablung.  Mablung is a cost 1 because of Faramir's text.

Besides the point, can we limit how much punctuation we use in thread titles please?

And as Thranduil says, they are both legal.

From what you just said, you also said this is legal

 Galadriel, Bearer of Wisdom w/ Ring of Doom
 Elladan, Son of Elrond
 Elrohir, Son of Elrond
 Glorfindal, Revealed in Wrath

 And, everybody knows it isn't.

Yes but this is clearly ludicrous.

Elladan = 3
Elrohir = 1 (because he is -2) making a total of 4
Glorfindel = 2 ... which would be 6

How did you get THAT from what've been said so far? HOW can you play those elves in ANY order that makes it possible for them to hit play and still cost a total of 4?

Starting fellowship comes to a twilight cost of 4 or less. Your OP contained possible starting fellowships with twilight cost 4 as they had cards to reduce twilight cost.

GoG: Just remember that companions are played ONE AT A TIME and any game text reducing twilight for other companions is not active until they have been played and paid for. All responses have been correct so far.

Kralik just explained it.  You cannot use both Elladan's and Elohir's gametext, you can only use one.  Thus total cost of 4 for both.

In addition to these rulings, it should be noted that you can use the game text of a Companion in your starting fellowship that's triggered upon the companion entering play.

So, for example, if you have Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence in your starting fellowship, you could immediately use him to remove one of the burdens you bid.
