Title: Possessions
Post by: MR. Lurtzy on June 03, 2008, 06:02:55 PM
When a card does not let a companion get strength bonuses from possesions, does that also mean that they do not get strength bonuses from that possession's special ability?

Good question. My gut reaction is no, because I think the strength bonus in that case would be coming from a "special ability", but I have no proof that's the right answer.

What do our resident experts think?

Thus saith me. The bonus cmes from a possession, albeit a special ability, and is thus nullified.

Source is everything! Should leave it at that, but in the interests of sticking my neck out:

If the possession is granting the bonus directly (e.g. "Remove [1] to make bearer strength +1"), that bonus is ignored. The source is the possession.

Sometimes the source is another card (e.g. "Bearer gains hunter 1"). Mighty Longsword basically makes its bearer gain the text "While skirmishing a non-hunter character, this character is strength +1." So the minion is actually the source of the strength bonus, and the bonus stays.

I have nothing to add other than NB and ES are right; the strength bonus is definitely cancelled.
