Title: Something new, something borrowed, something blue...
Post by: Gil-Estel on July 06, 2009, 07:13:50 AM
The idea is new (to me it is) but borrowed and the main color of the fellowship is blue.

*The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry(7R2)
*Galadriel, Bearer of Wisdom (RB)(9R+14)

Sites
(1R)Rohirrim Road(7U332)
(2R)West Road(7U337)
(3R)Hall of the Kings(7U339)
(4R)Pelennor Prarie(10U118)
(5R)Crashed Gate(8U119)
(6R)Minas Tirith Seventh Circle(7U350)
(7R)Osgiliath Channel(8U120)
(8R)Morgul Vale(7U357)
(9R)Dagorlad(7U360)

Fellowship (34)
1x *Albert Dreary, Entertainer From Bree(1R69)
1x *Gandalf's Staff(2R22)
1x *Arwen, Fair Elf Maiden(7R16)
1x *Cirdan, The Shipwright(10R8)
1x *Elrond, Venerable Lord(10R9)
2x *Gandalf, Manager of Wizards(7R37)
1x *Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath(9R+16)
1x *Legolas, Greenleaf(1R50)
1x *Smeagol, Old Noser(5C28)
3x Into the West(7C23)
2x A Wizard Is Never Late(1R87)
3x Company of Archers(4R61)
4x Forearmed(6U16)
2x On Your Doorstep(8U19)
2x Roll of Thunder(4U99)
3x Saved From The Fire(8R20)
3x Servant of the Secret Fire(1R83)
2x Terrible and Evil(7R50)

Shadow (34)
3x *Ithil Stone(9R+47)
1x *Dead Marshes(5R95)
1x *Tower Walkway(7C315)
3x *Troop Tower(7R316)
3x Great Siege-towers(7U281)
4x Their Marching Companies(8U107)
2x *Gate Troll(6R103)
2x *Troll of Gorgoroth, Abomination of Sauron(8R108)
4x Gorgoroth Assassin(8R95)
4x Great Hill Troll(8C102)
3x Siege Troop(8C106)
3x Troll of Udun(6R106)
1x *Grond, Hammer of the Underworld(8R103)

This is the idea. Play all the engines during your shadow, nothing else (ignore this when you have 102 twilight and 4x Great Hill Troll, Troll of Gorgoroth, Gate Troll, and 2x Troll of Udun). With your fellowship you ought to stack all the Trolls on top of your deck, and put them under your deck with Smeagol or Elrond and the use of Into the West. Elrond heals himself, which is nice. Burn an Elf to set up the Elrond going to the West combi. This is a rough scetch, so I can still think of card drawing (alliance reforged), Nenya, RoA, stuff like that. Let me know what you think!

Cardchoices:

In to the West 3x. 1 is grabbed with SftF, and if you get it before you have to take it from your draw deck it is enough. It is a vital condition so if it is getting discarded, youcan replay it.

Forearmed. With those trolls you might as well take advantage of it ;)

On your doorstep. Get essential elven cards back when you really need it, otherwise ditch it.

Starting Lego and Glorf, I take it? Love the Gandy/Smeagol combo... makes me want to try it with Lost to the Goblins. Those engines will be hard to discard if you don't play any minions until the opportune time. But what happens if your opponent starts running and you are unprepared? In any case... we should test this deck out!

Running adds to the twilight, which means potential a few Trolls out. Sure it isn't flawless, but I like the concept.

Ok, Trolls are great. I think I need to focus more on the Forearmed part and less on the stacking under my deck. So it can be smaller, and maybe more efficient. It is surprising how little twilight is needed for a few nice trolls. Maybe I'm going to add Advance Scout and Advance Captain to make the troll really painful. Gorgoroth Agitator could be used for more threats. Think with me!

A wild and crazy thought: throw in a copy of two of Shelob. She costs [6], which helps out well with Forearmed...but the best part is that, since you have Smeagol, you can pull Shelob back with On Your Doorstep.

Yeah, I know, there's probably not room. But the idea hit me as I saw your unusual (but awesome!) deck, so I thought I'd toss it out there.

Great idea for Smeagol! I knew about the SftF trick, but missed On Your Doorstep.

Elrond heals himself, which is nice.

Elrond, Venerable Lord can't heal himself.

I would run one fewer Gandalf, Manager of Wizards and one more A Wizard is Never Late. I think that every deck that runs Gandalf, Manager of Wizards needs Brooding On Tomorrow. Glimpse of Fate is nice too since you are running Elves.

I don't think 4x Forearmed are as important to your deck, since you get a free pass at looking at the deck with Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath and Elrond, Venerable Lord.

Who do you start? Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath and Arwen, Fair Elf Maiden with Smeagol, Old Noser?

Thinking more, Gandalf, Leader of Men and Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath is probably a better idea for your starting fellowship.

Saved From the Fire to grab Sent Back, Gandalf, Manager of Wizards, and Brooding on Tomorrow would be a nice combination, or you can grab a second Saved From the Fire to get Elrond set up the next turn.

You can remove the copies of A Wizard is Never Late to make the room for Sent Back. If you don't want to burn Glorfindel, you could pack a few copies of Ordulus, Young Warrior or Lorien Elf for the burn.
