Ok Here's a combo i thought up but i'm not sure where to go with it
Gandalf + Saved From The Fire + Theoden, Tall and Proud
so burn theoden to pull a companion and 3 other cards into hand but what to do with that? go wounding and grab Eowyn, LoI Eomer, TMotR
and a couple rohirrim javelins or go more traditional rohan and grab eomer, keeper of oaths (which gets possesssions) and whatever else you need so suggestions anyone
-
Rule of four would prevent you from using Eomer and SFtF, outside of getting just one weapon. Anyways, why would you want to kill Theoden? You should kill Gandalf and then grab Sent Back, a new Gandalf, and Hearken To Me! Beef up Theoden even more!
I would rather just stick to traditional Rohan with Boromir as the Ring-Bearer.
Use Boromir with The Red Arrow to play Rohirrim Army to discard a Balrog during the Assignment phase in a pinch!

Boromir, Bearer of Council with The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles
Eomer, Third Marshal of Riddermark
Eowyn, Lady of Rohan (is my personal preference--It's the only card where she doesn't have a total fivehead)
Theoden, Leader of Spears x2
Rohirrim Army x2
Grimbold, Marshal of Rohan
Gamling, Warrior of Rohan
Aragorn, Ranger of the North (cannon-fodder)
Sam, Son of Hamfast
Simbelmyne x4
Fortress Never Fallen x2
We Left None Alive
Arrow-Slits x2
Blade of Gondor
Eomer's Spear
Herugrim
Eowyn's Sword, Dernhelm's Blade
Firefoot
Snowmane
Brego
Swift Steed x2
Long Spear x3
That's 31 cards. You can add a few cards to keep Boromir from being corrupted--like Narsil, Blade of the Faithful rather than the Blade of Gondor, and then add Scroll of Isildur...
-
Eowyn, Lady of Rohan (is my personal preference--It's the only card where she doesn't have a total fivehead)
What is a fivehead?
-
A forehead with an extra 25%.

Actually, this is incorrect. The Rule of 4 says: "You cannot draw (or take into hand) more than 4 cards during your fellowship phase." Eomer, Keeper of Oaths lets you play cards directly from your deck; there is no drawing/taking into hand involved, so this does not count toward the Rule of 4 (nor does the text on Theoden, Tall and Proud, so if you use Saved from the Fire to burn Theoden and play Eomer with his text, you've only used 3 of your 4 draws for that turn).

Hmm...alright then...makes a little more sense. Thanks for the heads up, Red. :gp:

actually i've never been a big fan of boromir, boc i perfer isildur, boh
-
ok, personally, i've never actually played any SFTF deck. :gasp: i know...
however, i've looked at quite a few, and the main thing they are good for is setting up your fellowship right? and personally, i have to agree with L3333 that SFTF+theoden could be very effective in setting up your fellowship. again, i haven't played a SFTF deck, so maybe i'm wrong. but lets at least help L3333 with his idea instead of saying that its worthless, i mean, if you aren't willing to explore the game, what fun is it? and who knows, maybe we'll come across something big!

Sorry, I'm not trying to #$&*@! on his ideas...I just don't know that Saved From the Fire with Theoden, Tall and Proud is the best idea from a deck building idea. That means one of two things:
1. Start Gandalf, Leader of Men and (presumably) Eowyn (whichever version you prefer) and pack four copies of Saved From the Fire and four copies of Theoden, Tall and Proud to get the set up you want quickly
or
2. Start Eowyn (or another 2-cost starter) and Theoden, Tall and Proud and pack four copies of Gandalf and four copies of Saved From the Fire.
While Theoden's game text is really nice (it is...coupled with Rohirrim Army it is a total pain in the #$&*@!)... I just don't think it is the best option as an early set up--rather, it is great against that Balrog thrown out at site seven or eight.
I could see a really great example being starting Gandalf, Leader of Men and an Elite Rider to get Eomer, Eowyn, and a toy, but I just don't think that using Saved From the Fire as an early set up with Theoden, Tall and Proud as a strong deck-building idea.
Remember, you have to have Gandalf, Theoden, and Saved From the Fire for that to work. There is no Gandalf that you can start with Theoden, Tall and Proud, but it might work with Theoden, Son of Thengel or one of those 6-2 Theodens...
...I really think that Gandalf, Theoden, and Hearken to Me and Herugrim is just great though. A Theoden tank is so much fun, as long as you can avoid Grima, Wormtongue (you are giving him a horse, right?)
Either way, Legolas, I hope you didn't take my thoughts as a personal bash. But macheteman did give a good reminder that things posted on the internet are tough to put vocal inflection behind.
And for the greatest line in the movies: I'm not trying to rob you! I'm trying to help you!

Edit: The only offense I meant to anyone is Miranda Otto. And I wasn't trying even to be offensive, just state that I think she has a total fivehead. But that wasn't supposed to be offensive to fiveheads everywhere...just saying that I think that she has a little too much forehead.

Here is an attempt at a deck list if I ran a Saved From the Fire Rohan deck:
Boromir, Bearer of Council with The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles
Gandalf, Leader of Men
Elite Rider
Theoden, Leader of Spears
Eomer, Skilled Tactician
Eowyn, Lady of Rohan (again, an opinion thing for me)
Gamling, Warrior of Rohan
Rohirrim Army
Sam, Son of Hamfast
Blade of Gondor
Eomer's Spear
Eowyn's Sword, Dernhelm's Blade
Herugrim, Sword of the Mark
Rider's Spear
The Red Arrow
Firefoot
Snowmane
Windfola
Brego
Swift Steed
Hearken To Me
Fortress Never Fallen
Saved From the Fire x4
Simbelmyne x4
Let Us Be Swift x3
That's 32 cards, if I'm not mistaken. My plan would be to use Saved From the Fire turn one on Gandalf--grab Hearken To Me, Gandalf, Manager of Wizards, and Sent Back. Play Gandalf and Sent Back.
Fellowship phase two, burn Elite Rider and grab the cards you want/didn't already get with Simbelmyne. Remember my thoughts on The Red Arrow sending out Rohirrim Army during the Assignment Phase...later than Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul could kill a sixth character, but also discarding a character!
You know, maybe I would do the Rohan turn before upgrading the old Wizard.
I might try this on GCCG sometime...but I'm open to thoughts or improvements as well!
-wtk
Edit: No Rest For the Weary might be helpful too because all of the [Rohan] companions (except the Rohirrim Army and the soon-deceased Elite Rider) is Valiant.
Second Edit: Actually, I like this Free Peoples quite a bit! Thanks macheteman and legolas3333 for helping me think outside the box!
Third Major Edit: I actually think I would cut out the upgrade Gandalf non-sense and just make him a speed bump after grabbing the Rohirrim stuff I want (at the expense of Elite Rider). If I get Hearken To Me while Gandalf is alive, great. If not, no problem too.

right now i like the elite rider idea so it would be like this
34 cards
Isildur, Bearer Of Heirlooms
The One Ring, Answer To All The Riddles
Gandalf, Leader of Men
Elite Rider
Gamling, Warrior Of Rohan
Gandalf, Manager Of Wizards
Theoden, Tall And Proud
Eomer, Keeper of Oaths
Eowyn, Dernhelm
Rohirrim Army
Sam, Son Of Hamfast x2
Saved From the Fire x4
No Rest For The Weary x2
An Honorable Charge x4
Rider's Spear x4
Rider's Mount x4
Sent Back
Brooding on Tomorrow
Thundering Host x4
So first turn burn elite rider grab theoden, eowyn and eomer, second turn burn theoden play gamling with theoden and grab rohirrim army and any possessions/conditions that you failed to draw or grab with eomer. when you get the chance burn gandalf for sent back, brooding on tomorrow and MoW, brooding gives you condition discard and sam gives you burden removal
-
Brooding on Tomorrow and Gandalf, Manager of Wizards is devastating. But I guess everyone loves Gandalf, Leader of Men.
Because this was originally posted in Movie Block, I assumed that was what you wanted to do. I am not too familiar with Standard anyways...
I am glad we were able to come up with a viable option for this!
-wtk
-
Don't forget the potential of using Gandalf BoO as your Ring-bearer. Then you can start a [2]-cost Rohirrim and Tall and Proud together.
Admittedly, I have not yet made a Gandalf BoO/Rohan deck that I like, but I know others have made ones that are quite lethal.

i put manager of wizards in there instead of leader of the company and you grab him by burning leader of men.
-
Rider's Spear x4
Rider's Mount x4
I guess it is just a preference thing for me, but I would prefer having each individual character's mount and weapon. Because you are controlling the set up, you really don't even need Simbelmyne...
Still no The Red Arrow? With a Gondor ring-bearer, I think that is brilliant!
-wtk
-
I've never understood the usefulness of The Red Arrow. Yes, it's great with Rohirrim Army and Keeper of Oaths, but otherwise it seems like a lot of exerting for...what? I just don't understand how it's really useful outside of the combo with the two companions I mentioned.
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but every time I see someone recommend The Red Arrow, I scratch my head and wonder why.
-
Just the exertion to play the companion is nice. Unclog your hand, combat swarm, and avoid Shotgun Enquea and other maneuver actions that are similar.
But, yeah. Rohirrim Army for the free minion discard is almost worth putting it in for alone.

hmm yes to the part about individual possessions, i will probably change that
no to the red arrow, i just can't see the draw of it...
-
I suppose I am in a losing battle with The Red Arrow.
I only prefer the first part...the "You may..." is unnecessary for how I have used it.
-wtk
-
With the red arrow, rohhirim army needs to be in your hand correct? I haven't played LOTR in the longest time
-
Yes, it does
-
That's a nice idea. I think Sftf - Theoden combo would be best used as a second burn.
For example: Start Leader of Men and Elite Rider, burn Rider to get Theoden, TaP, Eowyn and Gamling. Then burn Theoden and with him play Eomer (Keeper of Oaths for maximum effect) and take 3 possessions (Eowyn's Sword, Firefoot and Eomer's Spear for example).
Now the question that pops up for me: If you burn Theoden, TaP and play Eomer, KoO, what comes first? Do you get to reveal 10 top cards and play any possessions and then take any 3 [Rohan] cards from deck or do you have to play Eomer, KoO, take 3 cards and then reveal top 10 cards. I think it's the former but I'm not sure.
-
Ya, then run the filter Gamling, pair with swarm and kill people.
EDIT: Ach...not movie block. whoops. well if anyone wants to try expanded- filter Gamling works well.
Or Gimli RB with Calculated Risk.
