Title: Storing your collection
Post by: Jubei11 on September 11, 2009, 02:48:23 AM
Hey all,

As im sure pretty much all of you are like me in the way that you have boxes upon boxes of lotr cards!

Just getting back into sorting my collection out, i was just wondering how everyone out there stores theyre cards? do you have them all arranged say fotr with each culture sorted or do you have everything in numerical order? Do you have em all in boxes or special cases?

Also how does everyone store theyre actual true collection? i have mine in Collectors card album ultra pro binders. everyone else the same?

Hi,

I have the cards divided in Blocks -> Culture -> Twilight Cost. All arranged in Shoeboxes, Deckboxes and Sleeves.

Sorted by culture in soft sleeves in anthology boxes. I only play the open & expanded fromats so there is no need to sort the cards further. I also have some very soft plastic bags normally used for waste in the anthology boxes to prevent damage on the cards caused by movement of the box.

I sort by culture and number of copies I have of the card.  I'm in the process of sleeving my collection.  It was either spend 20 bucks on a few card pages or 20 bucks on 2000 penny sleeves and store them in boxes.  The boxes won out.

By set and then culture.

I keep each block separate.  Sort by culture, card type (Companion, posession, event, condition) and twilight cost.

Yeah I have my fellowship/TTowers/Rotk decks all in the Ultra-Pro Satin or just colored sleeves.  All my Post-Shadows decks are just in the clear plastic sleeves.  I would agree with you in regards to the longevity of each.

I have a binders with my complete sets displayed.

Then I have all of my extra rares grouped together and organized by culture and card number.

Commons and Uncommons are in boxes. Shadow cards organized by Sub-Culture. And Fellowship organized by Culture > Type (ie Possessions, Events, etc)

I organize using the following process:

1.  Block
2.  Side (Free Peoples/Shadow)
3.  Culture
4.  Kind (Companions --> Allies -->Conditions --> Events --> Possessions; same for Shadow, just replace Companions/Allies with Minions)
5.  Alphabetization

My rares are kept separately, and are divided only by culture.  I don't have a large enough collection of rares to worry about further categorizing them, and it's actually nice having to thumb through them when I'm looking for something, because I often come across a card I realize could go into the deck I'm building at the time.

I store my collection in binders by block, 1 binder per block. Everything is in numberical order, 4 of each card max. Spare foils, rares, promos, etc get stored in a plastic card box with divided sections for trading fodder. I have a separate binder for my promos, autographed cards, etc. All my cards are kept in a plastic 72" high double-door storage locker. Spare non-foil commons go into the 5000+ count box abyss, I've got a few of those.

They sell fire proof boxes.  They're generally small though and are pretty darn costly

I have everything from Movie Block in binders in 9-card-pocket sleeves:
-FotR = 2 binders (foil/non-foil)
-TTT = 2 binders (foil/non-foil)
-RotK = 2 binders (foil/non-foil, one Reflections set per binder)
-Hunters = 1 binder (sets 14-19)
-1 anthology box for my The Hunters play-set. (this could develop into 2 boxes, if I manage to scrounge up enough RoS and T&D cards...)

Everything in the binders is sorted by set, then by card number. The play-set is sorted by rarity, then by card number.

I do not have play-sets for movie block and I skipped the WotR-block altogether.

I do, however, have a cube draft box for FotR and am working on a TTT cube draft box, as well.

Cheers!

Cube? Heck yeah! Let us know what the card list is and how you run it! I'd be really interested. Are you the one that posted the LOTR cube list on Decktechs Buzzboard?  I'm really curious about how fun the LOTR Cube is. I've heard all about the SWCCG cubes. I doubt most people here know what a Cube is...

I store my collection in binders.

Binder 1: FotR, MoM, RotEL
Binder 2: TTT, BoHD, EoF
Binder 3: RotK, SoG, Refl, MD
Binder 4: Shadows, BR, BL, Exp. Middle Earth
Binder 5: Hunters, Wraith Collection, RoS, T&D and ofcourse Age's End
Binder 6: Double rares movieblock
Binder 7: Double rares post Shadows

15 anthologyboxes filled with my double common and uncs. Each devided by culture, and sorted from set 1-18, uncs and commons seperated.

Yeah, I'm proud, haha. For those who don't know me yet: I have collected all the cards, except for the masterwork foils and promo's....

Edit: thanks TJ

What are you missing G-E?

When I had my collections they were sorted almost that way. I always had a dossier from Ultra Pro for each block. Then I had them ordered by collection number and always 3x each card, in those 9 slot binders. (Means each 9 slot page would get only 3 cards ahah... Usually I had 1 English Card, then 1 Portuguese Card and then a foil version.)

Just like G-E, all the repeated cards were in my anthology boxes..

:'( Bahh..

OK, here is my process, to facilitate deck building:

Culture
Inside culture, in order of how long they last on the field: Companions then allies then followers then possessions then conditions then events.
Inside each type, they are ordered by twilight. For minions and companions, they are then ordered by strength, then vitality, then site number or resistance. For signets, it's in alphabetical.
