Title: Something has got to be wrong...
Post by: NappyKorn on October 06, 2009, 01:02:53 AM
...other than the lack of surviving very long. I assume with a fast killing shadow side this could be useful, but there has to be some sort of errata or something is x-listed or something that I don't know about or perhaps forgot. I haven't played for awhile and no idea if new rules have come out or not so there has got to be something that can't be right with how I'm using this deck. Anyway here goes with a brief explanation.

Bearer and Ring
*The One Ring, The Great Ring(19P1)
*Bilbo, Bearer of Things Burgled (RB)(9R+49)

Fellowship (30)
1x *Gandalf, Leader of Men(8R15)  (starting)
1x *Merry, Loyal Companion(11C168)  (starting)
1x *Rosie Cotton, Barmaid(12R129) (starting)
1x *Farmer Maggot, Chaser of Rascals(1R288)
1x *Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal(2C101)
1x * The Gaffer, Sam's Father (1R291)
1x * Old Noakes, Purveyor of Wisdoms(3C111)
4x Bounder(1C286)
4x Hobbit Party Guest(1C297)
1x *Fredegar Bolger, Fatty(18R107)
1x *Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal(2C101)
1x *Frodo, Frenzied Fighter(13R149)
1x *Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence(1R307)
1x *Sam, Great Elf Warrior(10P122)
1x *Tolman Cotton, Farmer of Bywater(12S133)
1x Birthday Present(10R104)
1x Home and Hearth(12C122)
1x Practically Everyone Was Invited(2U111)
4x Saved From The Fire(8R20)
1x *Sting, Weapon of Heritage(11R173)
2x Hobbit Sword(11S166)

Bid 2 to ensure you get to play the first site (may sound rough with Bilbo as your bearer but you will be peeling 2 burdens first turn. Play some sort of Dwelling site so Home and Hearth keeps Bilbo healed. Being a 30/30 deck hopefully you get 1 of the 4 Saved From the Fire in hand first turn. Use it to burn Rosie Cotton, Barmaid and grab Home and Hearth, Birthday Present, and Practically Everyone Was Invited. Exert Bilbo to use Practically Everyone Was Invited to play Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence which in turn will Heal Bilbo and remove 2 Burdens. Add a Burden to take Practically Everyone Was Invited back into hand use it again to play another Hobbit,  healing Bilbo again and removing the just added burden. Repeat the cycle until you have all your hobbit companions and allies in play leaving at most 3 Saved From the Fire, 2 Hobbit Sword and a Sting in your draw deck that aren't shadow cards. I'm thinking if all this is legal and you can get a fast killing shadow to pair with it your fellowship should be able to survive a bit with the Bounders keeping your hobbit from being too easily overwhelmed. Sam is pretty stout out of the gate as can be Merry since they will more than likely dump a hand full of minions on you at site 2 with all the twilight you put out. You can use Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal to put the fierce minions on Merry and Pippin to cancel the skirmishes the for the following fellowship phase use Farmer Maggot, Chaser of Rascals to heal them back to full with help from Hobbit Party Guest. Granted this deck won't last very long but it's a nice filter deck to help with a fast killing shadow to help it set up better.

I know that there are 2 sites that would really hurt the deck Anduin Confluence and Westemnet Village, but I don't think many players expect a allies deck to pop up and if they do run those sites it's more for the type of site it is so I would just have to hold on tight and hope for the best. Confluence would be the roughest of the 2 to face I'd think because without the followers to provide overwhelm protection and skirmish cancelling I'd lose a lot more companions early since I think I could spread the woulds around kill of the least useful companions and hope to hit a sanctuary, but who knows wouldn't want to see either site  .

Let me know if it is busted by some errata I missed or by something being on an old or perhaps new x-list/r-list that I missed some how. Remember this was just a fast build and mainly for full I guess with a quick shadow win in mind.

Thanks,

NK

Rule of 4 only implies the Fellowship phase...Playing cards from your drawdeck however is unlimited, check Practically Everyone was invited. Tom Bombadil though isn't a hobbit... And you cannot repeat taking PEWI back, not even from your discardpile, sorry:

Some card effects allow you to draw cards in the fellowship phase. You cannot draw (or take into hand) more than 4 cards during your fellowship phase. This is referred to as The Rule of 4.

And Nappy, it wouldn't hurt now and then to let me know how you are  ;)

Ok I forgot Tom Bombadil isn't a hobbit so adjusted the deck according. Other than that flaw is their anything else that would keep you from getting for draw deck pretty close to clear of your Free Peoples cards?

Thanks Gil-Estel and Ket for your quick reviews a.nd comments

With 1 saved you can get 3x PEWI, so that is 6 cards gone from the deck in 1 turn
