Hi all - just wondering what format of LOTR you all prefer to play.
Block format - Fellowship, Towers, Kings, War of the Ring, Hunters
Open format
Expanded format
Standard format
Can someone please explain to me the difference between open, expanded and standard? Is it just ALL cards with a different set of banned and restricted cards?
Additionally, if Lord of the Rings was to get back on the ground again, with errata cards, virtual cards, etc - which format would you prefer to play in. Should all formats be supported?
I have a small group of friends who tend to play open? format - using all cards - with some house rules. We almost always play multiplayer - usually with three.

I usually play block formats to retain the theme of the path and also to avoid the danger of using too abusive combos. It also keeps the card pool for decks low which helps me as an inexperienced player...
The only exception is Highlander format. I use all the cards from Movie block for this one, but it is a rather fun format anyway.

Open uses all cards with a very small restricted list
Expanded uses all cards with an X-list and R-list
Standard is sets 7-19 which also has an X-list
All these lists can be found in Lothlorien

standard has no R-list, just an x-list
