The point of the Freeps is to wound with whatever means possible. You've got Shadowplay, Unheeded, Archers, Aragorn's Bow/Sting combo, Rohirrim Guard/Hardy Garrison combo, Pippin can bounce early in the game, you've got Eowyn. Bounce Merry and toss him whenever is convenient. If you max out Shadowplay with the two bouncing hobbits, toss 'em back into hand and they come back healed! Invincible Uruk is pretty much the biggest weakness to the deck, and it is a problem, but that's why Shadowplay is in there with Orophin, eh? Or Thorongil. And yeah, not every deck is unkillable, this is about the closest I've gotten.
The shadow strategy is archery. Small fellowship, they die to tons of arrows. Big fellowship? Trickier, but Grima/Precision Targeting Combo at Anduin Banks usually does the trick in breaking the back of the big fellowship. Rapid Reload makes it easier to pull off.
That's pretty much the strategy.

Hi,
@NBarden: yeah, I think this deck looks really strong!
I think a weak point in this deck is, if you are not able to nab Thorongil with prancing pony that you might get killed very fast at the beginning (because Faramir is the only one who can fight - and if there are 2-3 fierce Nazgul... :o)???
-
Wow! Gold for ya. Not seen a competent Wound deck in ages. :) Looks pretty nice. I'm glad I held onto Gothmog now. Problem is getting those Mumak Commanders....and Sting. -_-
I'm guessing you've lost only a few times with this deck eh?
-
It's me again...
@NBarden: my congrats to your "awful" deck again ;)
do you think you would be able to get a deck posted also with bead-down (Thorongil, etc --> win fights) and pre wounding with Gandalf Powerful Guide and Radagast's herb bag?
you are a real deck-building-machine
Just press the button and NBarden knows, what to do!! real great! :D
-
Yeah, the Free Peoples is really impressive (can't speak for the Shadow but probably the same ;)). Especially considering how it's at a good 34 cards after getting multiple cultures to gel.
Any reason for the second Legolas, OtWR? I was thinking one of them could be switched to Radagast for triple move capability in case you need it (possibly bouncing Pippin). Then the deck will be effectively essentially completely unstoppable, bwahaha!!
-
I don't get why you have 3 Aragorn's bows.
It's a great deck though.
why is this in standard format? I guess i don't really know the difference between standard and expanded but isn't expanded like extreme decks and stuff.
-
I'm guessing to draw it faster, and multiple copies serve double duty as possession removal protection (e.g. from Ulaire Cantea, Faster Than Winds).
Been using this as the new standard to test decks against wounding. Seems like the best defense isn't actually wound prevention but adding as many threats as possible. But regardless the sheer number of high-strength companions keeps the fellowship afloat.

Expanded has a lot more cards you can use, namely, any, and that means a lot of extreme decks. But, there are extreme decks in standard as well, sets 7 through 19. This happens to be one, and it works better in standard since there are fewer extreme decks, thus, easier for me to crush other decks.

I think this guy, Southron Leader in a threat deck with Line of defenses and Mumak Chieftain could make some damage. But now you ask me: "But who in the World run such a dumb deck???". Well...err... I do ;D. But i can´t deny it´s a great deck we have right here! If i knew how this "give gold" thing works i wouldn´t mind spare some coins now... :gp: this deck seems nice like the Pipeweed one from someone who i can´t recall right now (I think is the one with the Jedi Frog picture...Gil-Estel i think - sorry if i have it wrong man...)
A friend of mine run a deck with shadowplay Swordthain, Eowyn and Guard as well. He do something that maybe make your deck even more powerfull: You have to fight with guard to "exert the minion until death and beyond" right? and doing so you expect to loose initiative and then kill the poor bad guy with Hardy Garrison right? Well, this got two problems, against initiative decks, condition discadind shadow decks (not really a big problem since you have other great killers). But if you face some kind of damage preventing wound minion/condition/event it´s a good ideia have some kind of protection for guard and of course for Eowyn! This can be solved adding Rohirrim Helm! if you really need it you can cancel skirmishes with your rohan companions and then discard Merry and get that nice little hats again!!! :o If so, Cut some copie of one of the elves and put more Eowyn in play to effectivenes to the combo...
What you think about this possibility?
Sarumans Power coud be terrible to this deck as well!!! Maybe a Scouring of the shire to protect at least your shadowplay and Sting?
-
Yes....but standard format is essentially the opposite of Movie Block. Virtually no cards are legal in both, thus, COMPLETELY different play environment, and the scenarios you mentioned don't really happen, plus some of the cards you suggested aren't allowed in standard.
-
But he is right about the nice pipeweed deck though :hey: ;D
-
Ops! My bad man, i didn´t realized that was standard play
Sorry for all that "words for nothing" hehehe. The combination of Southron Leader + Line of Defenses + Threat engine + sesoned leader + etc... still works in standard but this aloone can´t really makes your deck fall apart... You can consider the helm thing if you try to run this deck in expanded anyway...
But don´t get me wrong, i really think this deck rocks!!!
-
I just discovered this really awesome Deck and wanted to Bump it! Just OP, but you'll have to get those cards first...
-
This deck is epic! Made a proxy version and played against a friend who runs [Gondor] knights (fortification) and old [Raider] corruption (easterlings), and his RB was alone by site 5, exerted, corrupted with 3 more archery wounds to deploy, and 2 minions to fight (plus Isildur's cost for him skirmishing). Usually with my Forest [Wraith] it took me at least to site 7 to kill him, and even up to site 9 most of the time.
Then I gave him my Pipe weed [Shire] (remade version of Gil-Estel's pipe hobbits) with Forestgulz and I ran ahead of him by a mile. We didn't even have 1 skirmish in that game (due to me getting Legolas, Faramir's Bow, Aragorn's Bow, and Radagast in my opening hand ^^).
Oh, I added Radagast and Caravan From the South, so the deck is 35/35 for me. Caravan did the trick at site 5 in the first game we played, awesome card, and Radagast makes me impossible to catch up with.
The only problem was, I kept giving s**t-loads of twilight, but could still cope enough to kill almost everything before we even get close to a skirmish.
How much would this deck cost me? $$

those are pretty much minimum prices, but I don't think you can get the Freeps for less than 300 bucks, probably more, not talking about the effort to get all those Rares... Shadow is around 120 bucks, but more GAts wouldn' hurt. ;)

Wow, my proxy's seem a bit more awesome now then an hour ago. :S

Friend ran Elvent / Forestguls.
I hate Elven Armaments beyond imagination (he runs 4 of them). Good thing Radagast gave me better running potential. Plus Caravan from the South was another wise choice for me.

I sold my IRL FP build for like, $150 (including a cheap shadow side). But I didn't have a ton of high-powered cards.
