Title: Some timing questions
Post by: Ranhothep on December 14, 2009, 08:17:52 AM
I was unable to find a precise rundown of the order of things when you play a card, even though I remember it was written somewhere, so I would appreciate some help here. I am asking this mainly due to initiative based issues.
Instead of creating difficult questions, I'll use some examples:

There is A light in his mind in play. I have 0 burdens and 4 cards in hand and I'll play PATHS. If I remember correctly, you put the card on the table from hand, then pay it's cost, play responses/triggered effects, then do it's effect. Does the trigger for ALIHM - losing initiative happen before you place the burden or not?

Can a "When you play this..." effect spot the card it is written on or the card that triggered it? Does Gorbag, FR count towards the number of hunter characters you spot for the purposes of his ability. Can the throne of isengard make Saruman himself fierce? I believe the answer to both is yes according to the procedure explained above, however, I'd like additional oppinions. Thanx in advance.

The 8/13 CRD in the Archives sticky covers the steps to playing a card.

Before. Responses to the playing of the PAtHS (including the loss of initiative) happen before its effects are performed (steps 5 and 6, respectively).

See posts below.

Yes to both. The game text triggers after the card is in play, so the card itself can be spotted.

Reading the CRD, you add a burden first for PATHS, as it is the cost and later you can respond to loosing initiative, so it would work (and trigger TSC :D)

D'oh, for some reason I was thinking the burden was part of its effect. Yes, the burden comes before responses to losing initiative. :gp:
