Does anyone here play the tabletop game or Dawn of War? I'm a big Dawn of War player (and Chaos fan) and I'm also looking to get into the miniatures game.

The minis are WAY to expensive and out of my price range. Not to mention I have no time to paint them all up!
I sure admire the way people paint them up though! I always really like the Imperial Guard myself.

I've done paint your own minis table top games. They come with great satisfaction once you complete a mini, but as Jerba mentioned, the price is usually way too much. Look at D&D minis, star wars, or mage knight. Fully functional minis, already painted, and far less expensive. However, the games are (for all intents and purposes) D, E, D dead. Then again so is LOTR TCG

I've been playing Warhammer Fantasy for about 15 years now. I love it, but it helps a lot if you have
A) Friends who play aswell
B) Time to paint
C) A store that is close to home, and therefore easy to take a army to

I hear that. I bought a LOTR BSG started set, painted all the minis then realized I have no one to play it with... sigh, they make great rpg minis por lo menos
-
I did play fantasy for about 10 years (Lizardmen) but have recently started collecting and painting Space Marines (Ultramarines). 40K looks alot more fun to play than fantasy.
Also have and play Dawn of War 2 (PC not tabletop).. (Used to play the earlier Dawn of Wars.. but after playing number 2, the older ones look very lame now)

Agreed. Even though the game looks darn fun!

Mage Knight Dungeons was the bomb.

Recently I bought a pack of Lord of the Rings minis by Games Workshop, and I borrowed a nice big paint set to use as well. I've had a lot of fun painting high elves so far. At this rate however, I probably won't finish painting all of them for several months. I don't think I'll actually play the game itself though.

The minis are amazing, the sense of accomplishment is warm and fuzzy. I loved painting the minis. they make the best site markers for LOTR TCG

Yes!

If I played the LOTR Minis I'd play Rohan, they look marvelous.
-
I want to paint some Easterlings!
Numenoreans are cool too, especially when it comes to painting their faces.

Gondorians and their armor! Looks the best!

I bought some LotR Minis to use as site markers. I need to try to paint them one day, but I don't think they would turn out that well. I haven't ever really played Warhammer 40K, but I did buy the Warhammer Chaos in the Old World board game last month. It looks like it would be pretty cool, I just need to find time to learn to play it.

I dabbled in several armies (both 40K and fantasy) over the last decade, but the only two that ever went anywhere for me were Orks (40K) and Lizardmen. Both were awesome, expensive, experiences, and if you can handle the rules and strategy it's a very fun game.
