I got one of my friends to sit down with me today after a football(soccer) game today to try out LotR: TCG! After going through the basic card layout and stuff, we went on to play 2 games!
Needless to say, he was thrilled by it, and added that he would be happy to learn all the rules and stuff so that he can fully enjoy it! So now, that makes 2 LotR: TCG players in Singapore!
Now I can't wait for the next time we play LotR: TCG! And then I'll probably get more people too!
:D
-
Whoa! I wish I could actually return some of my people to the game, but oh well...
Btw, soccer rules :uh-huh:
-
Yes, my friend is teaching his younger bro how to play. And I am teaching my sister. 2 more players...
-
Awesome Kendrick. I'm happy to see more Asian players, that means I may be able to find more games on GCCG during late American nights.

I WILL eventually convince all of my board game crew to play. I keep telling them that Argicola, Catan, Power Grid, Stone Age, Kingsburg and the like all pale in comparison to LOTR TCG. I have built over 30 basic decks spread across all blocks and I continue to build more basic decks when I can find time or think of a new twist using C/U.
One day they will learn and they will know everything I said is true.
-
Thinking about that too! I have a friend who like almost the same games as you have described above, so he will love lotr as well
-
Thats tops Kenddrick!
It is so much better when you have some real people to play face-to-face with. I miss the good old days - but am looking forward to the upcoming LOTR tournament in Sydney at the end of February :)

Hmmm, I don't have too many rares but my friends and I like playing the game in a casual setting. I keep thinking of nice deck ideas but they always revolve around rares and having multiple copies of them and it really messes things up. If you had some good deck ideas maybe you should consider posting some of your decks online so we could build them =p. We have a pretty good supply of C/U/P

Make a forest/river archery deck in fotr block using ARV, Legolas, SoT, Elven Bow, Aragorn, KIE. the only rares you would really, really need would be Aragorn's Bow and Gondor bowmen
EDIT: Well what the heck I'll make it myself
32 cards
Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer
The One Ring, The Ruling Ring
Legolas, Son Of Thranduil (Start)
Arwen, Elven Rider (Start)
Haldir, Elf Of The Golden Wood x3
Aragorn, King In Exile x3
Aragorn's Bow
Elven Bow x3
Athelas x4
Ranger's Sword
Gwemgil/ Asfaloth
Hobbit Sword x2
A Ranger's Versatility x4
Swordsman Of The Northern Kingdom x4
Gondor Bowmen x4
there, it has all of 5 rares (6 optional) play lots of forests and rivers, you would even drop it to 1-2 rares if you traded the gondor bowmen for hobbit sword-play

I taught 6 people in my board game group how to play, 8 if you count 3 who graduated. About half of them really love it, the other half are curious or bored of it (after only one play). :)
Oh, and Kendrick, 8 years ago I'd be in Singapore with LOTR TCG cards too! If only TLHH was around then, and we both had met. We coulda played soooo many games. I miss Singapore tons. XD

Agreed. There are only a few board/card games I like more than LOTR TCG, and that's only sometimes. SOMETIMES I like Race for the Galaxy more, but I've played it so often, and it lacks the variety of LOTR somewhat. SOMETIMES I like Princes of Florence more, and SOMETIMES Middle Earth Quest (one of my absolute fave board games, if only it was balanced better I'd have kept it in my collection).

Hmmm you know what I might just try that. I think I have all the cards for it!

What do you guys think about making decks for friends?
I'd want them to:
-See the complexity of the game
-Have fun (i.e. not feel like it's just routine)
-Know what is going on (i.e. basic strategy of the deck)
-Play balanced decks with good matchups. I like, for example, the LOTR single-player tutorial program, the edited Aragorn and Theoden decks really matchup well against each other since they're tailored to counter each other. The problem is that if I make a great archery deck for one friend, the other friend playing Moria archers/some deck vulnerable to archery would not have many options. I think as far as archery goes, the sets past movie block were better just because you had archery conditions you could trigger (for toil) and things like that which increased flexibility.
Anyone got good decks they want to submit which are balanced against each other (and which aren't as routine/dull as starter decks)? I think an Elf Archery deck with Hosts of the Last Alliance paired up against Uruk-Hai with Broad-Bladed Sword might work....or against Sauron Orcs with Orc Bowmen/Tower of Barad-Dur, things like that which might stop them from default generating 6 archery, etc.

I'm thinking about Kingsburg. You like it a lot?
Better late than never I guess. :) My friends and I love Kingsburg, we also have the expansion so it gives us more choices and ways of playing the game.
You can find a Java version here, give it a try:

I have Race for the Galaxy and Middle Earth Quest but I haven't had a chance to play either of them yet. I've read the rules to RftG a couple of times but I haven't been able to sit down and play a game yet. I haven't even punched Middle Earth Quest yet, but I would love what's in the box. :) My problem is I kind of went overboard once I discovered Euro board games and I've probably bought 60-70 games over the past few years. My gaming group has shifted to mostly girls somehow I don't really know how, but the guys are outnumbered about 11-3. I am going to try to get a few of the girls to play Battue and Talisman with me and maybe I can bring out some of the heavier/direct competition games.
Side note: I should receive my War of the Ring Collector's Edition within the next couple of weeks. I can't wait!!

What I did was first build out the starter decks from sets. I used the card list within the Decipher LoTR Online Deck Builder, each deck is filled out to 30 cards each side if you open up the starters in the deck builder. What I did next was list every common and uncommon that had not been used within the starter decks for each block. I then looked to see what strategies may be available within those cards to see what kind of decks I could build. I added some of the commons/uncommons that had already been used with the starters that best went along with the deck I was building. I'm not certain how balanced the decks are, but I plan to balance them best I can by either adding rares to the weaker decks ot by weakening the stronger decks a little if I have to. I have to play them a few times before I go back and tweak them. Right now the only card game my gaming group is interested in playing is Killer Bunnies which is a totally random no strategy type game. It sucks to be outnumbered by girls. :)

Or does it...........? :)

Trust me, it doesn't.
