Title: Take Up The Bow vs. Pallando, Alatar and Radagast Deceived
Post by: OneFathom on February 28, 2010, 10:14:00 AM
Quick question...

In the last line of each of these cards, it says "This card is still a condition."

Alatar Deceived
Pallando Deceived
Radagast Deceived

Yesterday my opponent played Take Up The Bow to discard Alatar Deceived.  Even though it becomes a wizard minion when it leaves the support area, can Take Up The Bow still discard it if the card specifically says "This card is still a condition"?

My guess is that the last part of the text applies to condition discarding cards.

I believe, and am more than open to being corrected, that the card is both a minion and condition.

It is both, and is therefore suceptible to spells that target both types. I mean, cards that affect both.

Ahem.

To much MTG.

I disagree. Note that Alatar Deceived is only a minion from the time a Wizard wins a skirmish until the start of the regroup phase. Unless a Wizard won a skirmish between the last regroup phase and the archery phase (A Dark Shape Sprang?), Alatar Deceived is not a minion during the archery phase.

Of course, the underlying logic is correct such that if, say, a Wizard won a skirmish in the fellowship phase due to A Dark Shape Sprang, Alatar Deceived could be discarded with either Take Up the Bow (since it would then be a minion) or Company of Archers (since it would still a condition). Unless you have something weird like ADSS, though, Alatar Deceived won't be a minion during the archery phase.

I agree with Sammy, unless one of the decieved wizards is in play during the archery phase, take up the bow could not affect them.

Very true.  I should have clarified.  It was NOT Alatar Deceived, but Pallando Deceived that my opponent wanted to discard.  Pallando Deceived was in play, as a minion, at the start of the maneuver phase.  Thanks to all who replied.

In that case, yes, the wizard is dead. ding dond the wizard's dead. by the way, when do the elves who gave up archery to use take up the bow regain their keyword?

After the archery phase is over. Unless otherwise indicated (with words like "until the start of the regroup phase..." etc), changes only last for one phase.
