Title: Band Of The Eye
Post by: legolas3333 on March 09, 2010, 10:44:09 AM
If you win a skirmish, can you use band of the eye's ability mulitple times?

I would think that you could only do it once, I know you can have multiple responses to the same event, but I think each cards response would only be triggered once.

Response actions can be used as many times as you want (although many have limits). So as long as you have the twilight, you can use BotE's text multiple times. Compare BotE to, say, LotN (an "each time ... you may ..." action rather than a response).

Sam is right: you can respond to a single event as many times as you are able to execute the response (play the card, pay the cost).

Wow, I actually never realized that BotE's action could be used more than once.

The way it works in game is:

Skirmish ends, Band of the Eye wins the skirmish.
Free Peoples gets opportunity to respond to skirmish.
Shadow player gets opportunity to respond to Free Peoples' players' response action (quite rare).
Shadow player gets opportunity to respond to winning the skirmish.
Free Peoples player gets opportunity to respond to Shadow players' response action (again, quite rare).
Rinse and repeat as many times as necessary.

Just to clarify, the FP player also gets a chance to respond to his own response action, and may do so before the Shadow player may. Similarly, the Shadow player can respond to his own response (but not until after the FP player gets a chance to).

For example:
1. Grishnakh kills a companion.
1A. The Free Peoples player may respond to this, but passes.
1B. The Shadow player plays The Ring's Oppression to add a burden.
1B1. The Free Peoples player may respond to this, but passes.
1B2. The Shadow player plays The Ring is Mine to add another burden.
1B2a. The Free Peoples player may respond to this, but passes.
1B2b. The Shadow player may respond to this, but passes.
1B3. The Free Peoples player may respond to the burden from The Ring's Oppression, but passes.
1B4. The Shadow player may respond to the burden from The Ring's Oppression, but passes.
1C. The Free Peoples player may respond to the companion being killed, but passes.
1D. The Shadow player may respond to the companion being killed, but passes.
2. The game continues.

Note that if the Shadow player had a second copy of The Ring is Mine, he could have played it in response to either The Ring's Oppression (in addition to the copy he already played) or in response to the first copy of The Ring is Mine. If you have 4 copies of The Ring is Mine, and a burden is added, you can play them all in response to the first burden, or play the first in response to the initial burden and each of the others in response to the previous copy of The Ring is Mine, or anything in between.

Funny, I've always known this since I played discard in Fship block a lot. However, it's almost irrelevant because most decks in Fship block choke out all that extra TL anyway!

As for The Ring's Oppression, I guess it's good--if you have 4 in hand (and an extra 12 TL to use them all). Remember that with an event, once it's played, it's played.

I will give this a 75% accuracy rating. Cards like Morgul Skulker and Into Dark Tunnels recycle events, for example.

Darn it, and here I thought The Ring is Mine was the best card in the game!

Ugh. Either you missed my point or you were desperate to give some ribbing.
