Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this forum, so I would like to introduce myself first. I'm from Germay and I have played the LOTR TCG since it came out here in 2001. Unfortunatly, none of my friends are active players anymore and so I haven't played the game for a while. That's where I got the Idea which I want to present you.
I'm a professional software developer, and I mainly write programs for the Apple iPad and iPhone in my spare time. Recently I had the idea to have an app for browsing the LOTR TCG DB on my iPad. And I mean, not browsing the database via the built-in browser, but to have a specialized app. So you could watch the database offline and keep track of your personal collection and many other things. I haven't really started on this program yet, because I wanted to hear your opinion on this first, but I think I could put together a first version in a matter of days.
That's where I wanted to hear some other opinions on this. Are there any iPad users here, who are interested in such an app? Is there already such an app and I missed it? How would you design it? I'm going to write this app for my personal use mainly, but if there are any other users here who are interested in this app, I'd like to make it as a kind of "community project".
So my question is: Are you interested in such an app.

that would be really awesome. if you could do it, we would be grateful
-
Would be great if you'd also make it compatible for non-Ipad users.

I'm writing a collection manager/deck builder in Java in my spare time. Once I'm finished I'll be posting it for anyone to use. If anyone does, great, if not, then so be it. :)
Don't know if iPad uses Java or not, but good luck. I've had fun writing mine. The collection manager is done, the deck builder is about halfway done.
I'm writing it for myself and a friend I play against at work. I don't get much time at home to work on it though.
Good luck.

I appreciate your efforts Ulmo and I look forward to seeing your work bennibrightside.

Very early concept screenshot:
-
Looks good - i am sure the iPad users will like it - you might even get some players to go out and get an iPad perhaps :)
-
Very nice. Don't have an iPad but seems like a great tool for those who do.
BTW I would totally play LOTR online on a tablet, that would be awesome to actually move the cards.
-
I don't think a Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game Database is a reason to go out and get an iPad, right chompers?
-wtk
-
I dunno, it would be a major selling point for me.
-
LOTRTCG on the Ipad sounds like an interesting idea. Is it possible to make a GCCG-like game on the Ipad? I think that it would be more useful than a simple database.
-
Of course it would be possible, but insanely difficult to do...
The main difficulty lies in the complexity of the rules of each single card. This is extremely difficult to program, at least for me^^
I simply don't have the time to create such a game, but I agree, it would be really awsome on the iPad!
-
Do we need an Ipad? And if so.. why?
-
To run the program I'm writing you will need an iPad because it is an iPad app, which doesn't run on a PC.

Is there any way you could make it compatible with a Touch?

Not what I meant.. I meant: why should people buy an Ipad?

Because Steve Jobs says so.

A version for the iPod Touch / iPhone is definitly possible and I will write one as soon as I'm finished with the iPad Version!

That would be great!

Here Here for the iphone version!
-
Okay guys, the first Version (iPad) be ready in a few days, then I will make the iPhone / iPod compatible Version. Expect it to be two - three weeks.
I will upload a Demo Video on Youtube as soon as I have finished the card detail view.

Any possibility of giving an iPad alongside the application?.....
-
I'll find you an iTampon.

-
So any word on the progress of the iPhone- touch version?
-
Any updates on the app?
-
Well actually yes, I'm sorry for not posting in such a long time!
I hab a lot of work to do in the past year but now I#M a student and have lots of spare time ^^
The iPhone/iPod-Touch Version of the App is almost done, I think I#M going to release it first and add the iPad-Functionality later.
I can upload pics of the App later!
-
Cool. Looking forward to it :)
-
Well the design isn't final yet, there are still many things to improve, if you have some sugestions, I'm pleased to hear them ^^

My Itouch is hungry for this!!!! Please post when available!
-
We wantsss it!!!
-
Just posting to show my support for this app!
Very cool
-
Looks awesome.
-
OMG that's pure awesomeness.
I'd buy it any day.
-
You won't need to buy it, it will be available for free ;-)
Unfortunately I've got 2 major exams coming up next week, so I won't be able to work on the project until then. But afterwards I can post a more detail preview of the app!
-
Slightly off topic - but is the card database available as an offline package? Would an application like Cooliris be useful? I believe (without actually checking my facts mind you) the developer side of things offer various scripts, etc, that could be used to customise things and offer collections - whether that be set collections, deck collections, etc.
Just a sideways thought?
-
Hopefully Apple will let it into the App Store...
-
Hi, just a small status update:
I'm working on the App heavily at the moment since I have holidays right now.
There is still much work to be done but I'm making pretty good progress.
What isn't finished yet is Deck management, which I will implement next and a search function with several options.
But everything else is pretty much done and also very nice to look at in my opinion. I will attach a new preview screenshot of the standard cardlist-view.
-
Hopefully Apple will let it into the App Store...
If they don't, or if you wanted to allow others to try it out before it gets into the App Store, have you considered the "Ad Hoc Distribution"?
-
Yes, I think at least for the users of this community I may make an Ad-Hoc-Version.
By the way, what would you use as an icon for "All cards"? I am looking for an icon to switch between two modes. In the first mode you see only the cards in your personal collection (I have an icon for that) and in the second one, you see all cards (For that I need an icon^^). Any help would be appreciated, I want the App to look as perfect as possible!
-
Why not the card back?
-
Maybe a globe would be fit for "all cards".
-
So any updates on this...?
-
Did this app was finally released?
-
great...I was thinkig about writing such things but my programming skills on IOS despite some learning are very poor yet :(...I am getting old.
It think it could be also perfect app for those wanting trade cards with option like cross-search and export your collection info to CSV for including inZorbec deck builder e.g. :)
is it possible?
