Title: Hunters Lore...
Post by: Faelach on May 10, 2010, 04:28:08 PM
Is is just me, or did any body else notice the serious lack of creativity on the lore in The Hunters?  Some of them are just downright hilarious.  As I don't have much past set 13, I hadn't read through them before.  When I did today I was surprised by the overall siliness.  Anyone else notice?

the lore on the cards from sets 11-19 are usually not even from the book.  That is why they're so hard to swallow. Watchful Orc is my least favorite of all time.  As a writer, the very notion of narrating your text as done with this card is sickening.  For any aspiring authors, never narrate your book to the reader.  Speak with the 'eye' not the 'I.' Watchful Orc is a perfect example of narrating with the 'I.'

I still find Orkish Hunting Spear silly: "Orcs hunt for Men, ponies, and their own kind."

Poor ponies... but I'm sure horses of great stature will come to their rescue.

And Decorated Barricade is just bizarre.

Basically it's the strength of the wall that matters in times of war not the aesthetic appeal.  It is a very profound statement.  Not that I needed to explain that. :)

I think the lore should've been "These figures look nice."

That was one of the ones that really caught my eye as being silly.  There are quite a few that are strange...

Here's some others I found interesting:

Dinendal, Mirkwood Archer's lore makes no sense.
Sword of the Fallen's lore is ironic considering the title.
Controlled by the Ring - wait, hunger can be "quenched"?
Aragorn's Bow...
Gondorian Prowler

The Minions of the set probably have the worst lores though, consider:
Great Axe - HUH?
Primitive Savage - this one was meant to be funny, I think.
Lurtz's Sword
Ulaire Attea

And my personal favorite.... Hunting Uruk!

There's just a few!

To be fair, wasn't there only one guy doing all of Hunter's block by himself?

That's not the only "Argh!", either!  There's also Stampeding Hillman from the same set... : D

But honestly, how awesome is the lore on Grond, Forged with Black Steel?

at least it was a quote from the movie and not some made up line meant to sound as if pulled from a book

Apparently the Gondorian Prowler hunts his enemies by seeing, smelling, touching, tasting, and hearing them.

I don't get why you think that quote is strange. ...I mean, that's how a good tracker does it.

This Orc tastes ... well .... salty? Sweaty much?
