Title: So what is the best Frodo?
Post by: chompers on May 22, 2010, 05:50:52 PM
Been slowish on TLHH lately. Maybe this will generate some discussion?

You can vote up to three times.

You can change your votes.

You can post discussion below to try and influence others votes.

Maybe we can learn something from this if the discussion is good.

Let's find out which Frodo is the best!

Some links to the personas ...
Frodo Courteous Halfling
Frodo Hope of Free Peoples
Frodo Little Master
Frodo Master of the Precious
Frodo Mr Underhill
Frodo Old Bilbo's Heir
Frodo Protected by Many
Frodo Reluctant Adventurer
Frodo Resolute Hobbit
Frodo Son of Drogo
Frodo Tired Traveller
Frodo Weary from the Journey
Frodo Wicked Masster 7R318
Frodo Frenzied Fighter

If this works, perhaps we can do it for the other main characters as well.

Not to sure why I choose the ones I did but picked Mr. Underhill, Protected by Many and Weary from the journey.

I love Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir. But Frodo, Resolute Hobbit is probably the best overall. I gave my third nod to Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer because I remember the Sting, There and Back Again, Mithril-Coat, Phial of Galadriel days.

Weary From The Journey - Standard format
Courteous Halfling - Movie block
Resolute Hobbit - Both

FOTR block and TTT block really depends on which deck you're using (as do all other formats). I think these three have the best abilities overall. Courteous Halfling of course would not be used with a ring-bound deck.

Frodo Frenzied Fighter is the best one because you do not lose the game if he dies. :P

Seriously... the one I use the most is Resolute Hobbit. Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir is probably #2.

Resolute Hobbit if I don't need a particular ability (e.g. Old Bilbo's Heir for Hobbit Hospital, Hope of Free Peoples for rainbow wounding, Reluctant Adventurer for choke, etc.). Maybe Weary From the Journey or Protected by Many.

Old Bilbo's Heir for Hobbit Hospital and use with Bounder, Resolute Hobbit for sheer versatility, and Frenzied Fighter for site 9 heroics (Ring-bearer has 3 orcs assigned to him? No problem, just exert Frodo).

Mr. Underhill for the best picture.

WftJ received my first vote because he's simply the best naked Frodo. In most cases he's got a Hobbit Sword built in.

Resolute Hobbit got the second vote since - at the time of his printing - he did a fantastic job of shutting down corruption decks all on his own (honorable mention goes to Tired Traveller for the same reason).

Reluctant Adventurer got my third vote because he ruled in Fellowship block!

So ...
Frodo Resolute Hobbit is the best ...
or is it Frodo Reluctant Adventurer + Frodo Mr Underhill?

No votes for ....
Frodo Hope of Free Peoples
Frodo Little Master
Frodo Master of the Precious

... are they that bad or just too specialized?

Stay tuned for which Sam is the best .... Mr Froooooooooooodoooooooooooooo oo!

Since Mr. Underhill shares Reluctant Adventurer's text, perhaps he should win the tie with Resolute Hobbit.

I was thinking that but there are subtle differences .... biggest one being the change in signets. Whether that is enough to distinguish between them in terms of deck design i don't know. I guess in some cases one will be chosen over the other based on signet.

Rather, Reluctant Adventurer will be chosen since Mr. Underhill is not legal in any official format. I still swap him into my GCCG games though.

Finally I remembered where I've seen that picture you use as avatar, lem0nhead.

Monkey Island!!!

It's been bugging me for some time now

I know this is off topic, but it had to be said.  ;D

Resolute Hobbit for the 12 burdens he can carry as compared to the other Frodos.

Son of Drogo for being the 'first' Frodo. It simply makes me love the originality of the game.

My personal favorite is Frodo Old Bilbo's Heir reloading Bounder.

Or Hobbit Hospital in its entirety. :P

I like the Son of Drogo / Resolute Halfling combo... not sure what to do with it though.
