Hi guys--this might be a dumb question, but I want to make sure I end up playing things right.
Scenario #1
Merry, Friend to Sam exerts twice to add his strength to another companion. Can I spot Gandalf and play Intimidate to prevent one of the exertions? Aren't all exertions essentially wounds?
Scenario #2
The freeps player adds a burden in the maneuver phase to wear The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry. I play Resistance Becomes Unbearable. Does Frodo take a burden because that exert that was going on Frodo would be a wound and therefore must be converted to a burden--or does that card not function in that situation?
Thanks

#1: I just say, strength of Spirit. No, exertions aren't wounds.
#2: No, as said before, exertions aren't wounds.

Thanks, you're totally right.
Now for the big one...
Let's say Frodo is still wearing The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry and the Witchking, Lord of the Nazgul is out, wins his skirmish and exerts to wound Frodo twice.
Can Intimidate be used to prevent one of those wounds (even though both would be added as burdens per the ring's text)?

Since Intimidate and The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry both say "about to take a wound", they are triggered by the same action. Since the text of The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry is a required action, while Intimidate (being an event) is an optional action, the required action of The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry takes effect before Intimidate could be used.

He's alright, means that you can't use INtimidate in that case.
A bit off-topic, but who uses INtimidate at all? There are lots of better cards...

I believe that since the ring is on there is no incoming wound, it's an incoming burden as the ring's ability replaces the incoming wound via the use of the word 'instead'. At which point it's no longer an issue between required and optional actions. Even a required action that prevents wounds could not be used while the ring is on.

Well actually a much better clarification in the CRD...
is about to actions
Some actions are preformed when a described situation “is about to” happen. Typically,
only one of such action can be performed in a given situation, because its effect will “prevent”
that situation or replace it with another effect “instead.” Example: Isildur is wearing the One Ring, Answer
to All Riddles. [While wearing the One Ring... each time he is about to take a wound in a skirmish, add a burden instead.] The Free Peoples player has Sapling of the White Tree [Response: If a (Gondor) Man is about to take a wound, discard this artifact to prevent that.] Isildur loses a skirmish and is about to take a wound. Because the required action of The One Ring causes a burden to be added “instead” of a wound, the optional action of Sapling
of the White Tree cannot be used, as the situation it responds to no longer exists.

I use it in my FotR Block Gandalf Choke deck. It works well given the deck type.
Here is a link to it
