This is a RL deck if you're wondering about the #s. It's over 60 cards but cycles wonderfully and runs Saved from the Fire (SftF.) Strange Device can often leave you with an 8-card Freeps hand (be mindful to hold a minion for Grimbeorn as needed.) Actually using SftF is a bit tricky here as you'll be sac'ing one of the starting 'cornerstones' of the deck to pull out the fellowship; will you need burden removal or be reusing boosts this turn? Later, one of these can be brought back with Borne Far Away and one of the duplicate companions. Ironically, Jarnsmid, BE is the least useful of the two usually. Winning skirmishes alone keeps the burdens down enough. Generally you will be moving twice each turn discarding for one move and adding burdens for the other. Out of the High Airs is nice for this as it itself can be discarded to BoO if opponent is declining to play minions on the first move. Cards may also be discarded while moving that can be replayed via Treebeard, Erland, PPP and Look to my Coming. As this fellowship is not killing minions outright, Out of the High Airs and Terrible and Evil keep minions off the board for doubling/survival. Of course Gandy decks can give a lot of twilight. Hopefully it's earlier than later. Ideally at site 6 you have setup the triple move ftw. Radagast is out and Gandy has both Shadowfax, US and tRoR. SftF could actually extend your hand at this point if events are fetched and PPP is best saved for the final turn. With a possible triple in the bag, moving twice each turn is not a requirement and the shadow stops fellowships. Some opponents will try the ol' minionless strat attempting to corrupt. [-X Narya and being mindful of the possibility beforehand 'ensure' your sanity. There could be a separate thread on the topic of not playing minions strategically and the impact on each players' hands for the next 2 turns and such.
Since my playgroup avoids broken combos and loops this deck is having success in expanded. It could be converted into standard but I just can't roll without Roll of Thunder! And no Narya? Maybe Radagast's Herb Bag instead but there better be some minions to kill...

Well, I'm not sure if your Freps realy works like that. You'll definitely die against Sauron discard/ corruption and aginst most Swarm decks (e.g. Troll Swarm). I'd definitely add a Radagast's Herb Bag if you have one, and maybe some more constant Burden removal, like the good old Pippin engine:
Pippin, HoSI + Daddy Twofoot + Make Haste + several copies of Home and Hearth/ TSC.
As for Shadow, I think Strange devise ias a very nice card for a Swarm, maybe you can pick some nice strategies from my War of the Ring Block legal [Uruk] Swarm (klick me!) (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php/topic,5198.new.html#new)

Die to swarm decks? The companions are huge.

lol, but a good Swarm Deck can play 10+ minions easily. He's got 6 comps max. in play, which means Gandalf will face 5 minions; or a well played Massing Strength can kill you pretty easily. Demoralized Lurker Swarm is also pretty strong. And Troll Swarm... no chance. With 7 or 8 trolls out... oh, and there's also Nertea, Dark Horseman with Bill Ferny, AoS or anything else is also killing you.
As you might see, there are way too many tricks to defeat this Deck. Just tanking with 6 comps isn't really the best strategy in expanded.
