Title: Cheap Sauron
Post by: NappyKorn on August 02, 2008, 06:21:15 AM
I was thinking of a way to make Sauron a low cost minion to get on the table so here is what I thought of. I through it together rather hastily so it's probably not flawless but no LOtR deck is really. I was trying to make it a multicultural deck as well. Anyway any suggestions are welcome of course.

Shadow (35)
2x *Sceptre of the Dark Lord(13R141)
2x *Fat One Wants It(7R57)
2x Rallying Call(10U47)
4x Captured by the Ring(7C53)
2x Discovered(4R223)
3x Led Astray(11U45)
2x *Gollum, Stinker(5R25)
4x *Sauron, The Lord of the Rings(9R+48)
3x Easterling Footman(7R143)
4x Easterling Guard(4C226)
4x Easterling Lieutenant(4C228)
3x Easterling Skirmisher(4R229)

Here are a few ideas for the sites:

(0)Courtyard Parapet(13U188)
[1] City Gates(15S189)
[1]Pelennor Flat(11S254)
[1]Slag Mounds(11S258)
[4] Sirannon Ruins(18U138)

Ok as everyone knows 1 version of Sauron gets cheaper as the burdens, threats, and controlled sites pile up so I decided to give it a try. Gollum is the threat minion and the Easterlings can add the burdens. Infact as the Easterlings add the burdens Gollum can get bigger and possible help with the burdens as well. So get Fat One Wants It out and play Captured By the ring for 2 threats. Rallying Call can make those threats stick as well as any threats the opponent adds. Easterling Guard, and Easterling Lieutenant add burdens when they face unbound companions. Easterling Footman can spot another Easterling and help with hand clog by discarding cards from hand to add burdens if you can't spot 2 burdens. Easterling Skirmisher can be a twilight adder as well as Led Astray. With any luck the threats and burdens should pile up quickly and Sauron will become a big force to reckon with . I added in his Sceptre just in case the opponent is running tank Companions and has a way to prevent wounds (eg. Dwarfs and [Gondor] wraiths) They will end up eating wounds on other companions if they go that route . The Sceptre can always be dropped to make the deck smaller or can be dropped for a card of your choice . So there you have it please let me know what you think and if their are better cards to use for this deck, but try to keep the main theme of Gollum/Easterling to get a cheaper Sauron into the action.

Easterlings with raider threats is a sweet idea. I really like this deck. I built one that ran on a typical [Sauron] besieger strategy, but this look pretty cool.
