Just kinda curious on which one is the top. Any reasons why you choose the one you did, appearance or in game use have an influence in your choice?
-
The One Ring, The Ring of Doom for two reasons:
First, he's a really good ring, like an upgraded version of AtaR, and sees pretty much play in Standard.
Second, he's the only ring I don't have :( so I'd pick him. And having it even foil... ;)
And you forgot to mention The One Ring, The Ruling Ring*** from TTT. He's foiled really nice.
-
Opps must have skipped right on past that one lol. I will get it in, in just a second.
Thanks
Edited to say, I think I will just leave it with the rares for now. Although I would love to have them all listed most of the commons are kinda really close in appearance.
-
Such a Weight to Carry is the only ring I have foiled, but as an exclusive Movie Block player, I'd have to say the One Ring, Answer to All Riddles.
-wtk
-
The only foiled ones that I have now are Shadows, Reflections, and Ages Ends. I would love to see the TT and ROTK, I think I would be torn between them two.
-
Ring of Doom foil is amazingly pretty. I'd definitely say it's between AtaR and RoD, but since I mainly play standard I'm going with RoD.
-
The Great Ring.
-
Have to go with RoD foil, it's one of my favorite cards.
-
such a weight is my most favorite, but the great ring and ring of doom are clearly the strongest rings
-
Favourite: 15RF1 - Pulled from pack once.
Nicest to look at: 4C1 4C2 (foil) - I have had all foil rings at one stage and this one stands out the most in the binder imo.
15RF1 and 4C1 4C2 foil are the only two rings that the entire card was foiled, the rest of them have some part of the card (ring or bubbles) foiled. That's why I think these two look the best.
As for game play, The Ring of Rings finds it's way into most of my standard decks, and atar into most movie decks.
-
I like the foiled version of the Ring of Doom most, as well for many reasons:
- very cool picture to begin with
- picture made even better by foiling it
- game play is very cool, only ATAR comes close IMHO.
-
Def going with NB on this one; I loveee the Great Ring. It's just asking to be used and abused over and over.
-
Isildur's Bane! My favourite cos it's the only one I got! :D
-
Why was the Binding Ring (P) included in this survey? I don't see any reason for that to be included as it is not a different ring than The One Ring, the Binding Ring in game text.
Also, whose favorite ring is The Binding Ring?! Really?!

Well the picture is pretty cool... and that's about it.

Why do you ask so many questions your oversized ego already knows the answer to?! Actually there is no need to explain yourself even though I am sure you will. You can save your superiority complex for running off new members because I could really care less.
-
...Not the reaction I was suspecting.
I had just wondered why the Binding Ring was essentially included on the list twice.
While I use the card in one particular deck, I would not think of it as competitive with Answer to All Riddles or Such a Weight to Carry (let alone The Ring of Doom or The Great Ring). I was hoping whomever had voted for it would include rationale. I can understand why someone would like it, just not over some of the other rings. I didn't intend any offense and certainly didn't anticipate such a response.

-
i didn't vote for it, but i really like the picture of the binding ring, it was well done. aside from the great ring, i would say its 'put on' cost is the best, exert rb, not bad.
-
I think the negative of The Binding Ring's cost is that it happens during the maneuver phase. That requires an awful lot of foresight by the Free People's Player.
The One Ring, Such a Weight to Carry is similar in that it has to be put on during the maneuver phase; however, sometimes that extra 1 strength can make the difference between winning and losing a skirmish.
On the other hand, cards like The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles cannot be put on before the skirmish phase. This can cause its' own problems (mostly with maneuver or regroup wounding).

Talk about overreacting to a legitimate question... Please remind me never to piss you off Legolis.

Overreacting can also be leaving a 500 word essay about why someone is right or wrong, when a simple it just sucks or it is great, is plenty enough information. I don't like the idea of being used as a example over a game I have never even played. I admit I came a little out of whack sorry but trying to establish dominance over people or just being rude constantly can have its repercussions. To quote someone from awhile back "Its a tough crowd in here". It doesn't have to be but if it is, then I guess it is. I don't post a lot but I do read a lot and well some people can come off very rude or at least it seems that way. I could be totally wrong I have been before and I am sure I will be again at times in life. Opinions can be like butt holes everyone has one but not everyone enjoys the smell all the time on occasion sure but not the majority of the time. I do apologize and will try to keep myself restrained from now on, and stick with just reading instead of posting.
Feel free to continue and once again I apologize for any offense. Hope you all have a great day!
-
I hope the "500 word essay" was not referring to my simple question as to why the Binding Ring was listed twice? I was just looking at the votes and noticed that every one had a vote except for the Binding Ring (P) and then noticed that there was the Binding Ring from Reflections.
I might suggest if you removed the Binding Ring (P), you may get a more accurate reflection of the votes; however, another option could be including Isildur's Bane (T), Answer to All Riddles (T), Such a Weight to Carry (T), and the Ring of Rings (T). This would then reflect all of the "rare" and promotional rings rather than just the rare editions.
No offense taken.

Also I was curious who voted for the Binding Ring, as I think it is the weakest option available. It is not a bad ring for specific decks; however, given a choice between Answer to All Riddles and the Binding Ring, I would suggest the universality of Answer to All Riddles would make it a better choice.
I actually would think the same out of Isildur's Bane as well; I appreciate Kenddrick explaining why he voted for that and can understand his rationale. If it was a few years ago and I hadn't gotten rid of most of my collection, I would've mailed him a copy of Answer to All Riddles and Such a Weight to Carry so that he can experience true Movie Block power.

In your first post it was great, simple and to the point. I guess what kinda pulled my chain was the tone of your second post a couple days later. I understand your curiosity of who would have voted for it, but when you added in the "Really?!" at the end of your question it had that "tone" of why would someone ever pick that, are they stupid. It kinda seemed like you were looking to go on rant. I did mention that appearance was part of it, not everyone will think the same card looks the best. If you were "looking' to just give someone he// about something I wasn't in the mood. I have seen you respond to other people and threads over time and well sometimes you seem to like knick-picking people to death, just an observation and once again I could be wrong. I like simplicity if someone post something I don't like or care about I usually don't waste time responding, but you caught me on a really bad day, and once again I am sorry.
-
No need to apologize. I was not implying stupidity; in fact, quite the contrary. If someone proposed a solid argument regarding the card's merits, it could have been commending his or her (who are we kidding? On this site? His...) ability to think outside of the box and prove that it was indeed a better ring.
I'll chalk this one up to a simple misunderstanding. I still think, in all fairness, the One Ring, the Binding Ring (P) should be replaced by The One Ring, the Ruling Ring (which can easily stand in for all of its iterations). For what it is worth, in terms of balance, I think a fantastic argument can be made for the One Ring, the Ruling Ring being a very good card.

lol cool and now that I actually read the contents of these cards, well your right I should replace it. When I look at the cards I will read the title and then immediately go to the bottom right numbers. Then it gets put in some kind of protection and put away. Where I have yet to actually play someone I haven't really had to concentrate on all aspects of this game. I know one thing it is very complex and memorizing around 3,000 cards is going to take some serious time. I can get locked in on crazy things in a game it might take 20 whoop-ins but once I get it I get it. It can be very frustrating for someone trying to teach or play me I'd say. I have epilepsy and sometimes zone out for a minute or two here and there, or just wake up a month later and never know it.

In spite of my...unbecoming reputation on these boards as of late, when I frequented GCCG, I was one of the people who introduced players to the game and system.
There are quite a few people still on the boards who played their first game on GCCG against me with those Fellowship starter decks.

I know you have serious dedication to the site and game. I read almost everything that gets posted and you have to be in the top 3 to the best on knowing this game inside out. I know you will be extremely hard to beat in a game of this nature to, you are very knowledgeable. One of these days I would be honored to get my butt handed to me for a few. But If I did get it down don't just stop playing me if I get hard to beat lol.

I am not sure if people can change their votes are not. If they can't I wonder if I should reset the count or just let it go?
-
Aw, shucks. I'm blushing.

I am curious for your reasoning for wanting to reset the poll.
-
I had changed the first option from 0P68 to cover the C and S ring series. I think they are all the same or very close so I added that choice in. I wasn't sure if people can change their vote or not just in case others wanted to change their initial choice.
I ask partly to because of the way the website has the Poll options. I noticed if I create a poll after I start the thread I can change an option for allowing people to change their picks. On this particular thread I had started with picking the Poll option first, then added to the first post. I don't know if its just the browser are the site, but the options are a little different and there are a few less options in it, and allowing people to change their picks isn't included. About the only option it has this way is to reset the count. I guess it really isn't a big deal just have to remember to start a thread first before adding in a poll next time.
-
Each copy of The Ruling Ring is exactly the same in gametext.
Now, I don't think anyone will want to change their vote to it, but I could understand someone making an argument about it's balance.

Not true. Set 11 and onward, had "he or she" printed on them, as well as the second paragraph being slightly reworded.
-
I stand corrected (this is happening a lot recently!)
I suppose this is because of the advent of alternate Ring-Bearers. Furthermore, after looking at the Ruling Ring for the first time in, well, a very long time, I come to realize that it only can be put on as a response in the skirmish phase.
Lame.

On the "favorite" end, which is a wonderfully defensible position (all you can do is attack my sanity), I'm suddenly having a liking for The Ruling Ring****... maybe even going for the non-foil version. So simple and clean.
Once I get bored of it, I'd pick The Ring of Doom.

As an afterthought on the end of your ramble, that made me laugh. :gp:
