Title: my 1000st post aka lotr cards contest!
Post by: Witchkingx5 on August 23, 2010, 10:27:55 AM
Well guys, I saved this post especially for one reason. It was last december when I signed in at The Last Homely House. Since back then, I spent several hundreds of hours on this forum; I don't regret any of those.

I must admit I learned a lot through this site; from a real noob I became a player (as showed many games on GCCG) that doesn't play LotR TCG too bad. My collection has grown from about 600 cards to over 7000.

Now it's time to give you guys something back in return to this. I'll make a contest about my favorite cards through all sets, and of course, there will be some prices too!

prices:

I'm thinking of giving prices to the best 3 (or 5, depending on the number of participating) members. Those could be some Hunters Block cards (some RFs maybe), and some specific cards from my list you can pick, also some nice ones like my Courteous Halfling foiled. Alternatively to that, I could also give a cash price to you.

So, as for the rules, there are three categories of my favorite cards:

1. picture

pretty obvious, the picture that looks best to me is the best card from that category.

2. flavor

a card that brings over best the flavor of the movie/ book by her game text. (e.g. a Nazgul with ambush isn't really flavorful, is it?)

3. playability in theme decks

that's about certain caards that are mostly useless in general decks of that culture (e.g. Mallorn Trees) but are really nice in certain Decks which can be built around those cards.

points are given as follows:

1. guess one card from one set correctly: 1 point

2. guess two cards from two followings sets correctly: 3 points

3. guess two cards from one set correctly: 4 points

4. guess all three cards from one set correctly: 7 points

Well, that was it for now, I hope I explained this clearly enough, so sign in at this thread before submitting any cards, I'll make my decisions of my favorite cards now so that the contest can begin soon enough! You can also join to the contest later, but you'll miss some important rounds to gain points. ;)

Let's start!

On the contrary, based on the events of FOTR, ambush would work better on nazgul than it does on most [Raider] cards.

And, on topic, I don't understand what you mean at all. Are there 3 cards per a set, or 3 cards total?

Per set I suppose. Also, is there is one card of each category for a set? Or can there be 2 flavor ones and one picture card, for example?

Also, from when to when will this contest be?

Anyway, I may be a little busy this week, but really, count me in!

I think as far as the picture one goes I would say The Witch-king, Black Captain 0p61. The rest I wouldn't have a clue.

3 cards per set, one for each category.

I don't hurry anywhere, I'll just wait a bit until there's enough contestants to start.

Well, keep in mind that "ambush" doesn't suggest that the minions are "ambushers;" rather, you are paying an extra cost to ambush the minion(s).

I can't think of a time in the movies or films when a character actively tried to attack a Nazgul unprovoked.

exactly, that's what I meant above. Only a fool would challenge a Nazgul. ;)

Hilarious, but completely, and utterly wrong.

In fact, let's think about those Southrons. I think it went something like this:

Southron Assassin: Hey guys, what are you doing over there?
Southron Veterans: Just walking down to Mordor, minding our own business. You?
Southron Assassin: Same thing. What about you, boss?
Desert Lord: Just thinking about my sweetheart back home. I'd like to give her my Arrow from the South.
Southron Assassin: Yeah, Some big-tittied #$&*@! from Rhun really heard my Howl of Harad, if you know what I mean.
Whiz! Whiz!
Regiment of Haradrim: Oh #$&*@!! What the #$&*@! was that? Are those arrows?
Southron Runner: I'm going to get the #$&*@! out of here because our #$&*@! were ambushed.
Southron Scout: I'm getting my #$&*@! out of here because the free peoples player must have paid [2] to ambush me.

Damrod, Ranger of Ithilien: Who is the big-tittied #$&*@! now?

I would suggest in the future only putting one gold symbol on your post if you like an idea, because I will hold you to your generosity.

But my favorite by far is playing "Where is Desert Lord?"

Start with begginers level: Far Harad Mercenaries
Then  ... Southron Veterans Piece of cake!
How about Army of Haradrim (AI)? Still easy, Huh?
Wanna pass to intermediate? try Desert Lancers
Time to start to get serious then: Southron Invaders
Super hard: Strength in Numbers
And if you find him here i will buy you a donnut! Flanking Attack

Just had to bring that back since we are talking about the ambushers.

Ok so let's not spam this thread?

What, at all, did this add to the thread?

Wikkie, I'm going to go a set at a time and only go up to ten. I'm only doing this so that my insert, criticizing Yanko's insert, is not perceived as spam and does move the topic in its original intended direction. Everyone's a moderator now.

Fellowship of the Ring:
Flavor: Worry - I think the picture fits the card title and the results can be devastating. One of the underrated cards of Fellowship block.
Theme Decks: The White Arrows of Lorien - Another card built for a specific deck. Every time I see this card (as an opponent) I know to expect a long game.
Picture: The Witch-King, Lord of Angmar - I don't think the card is too great, but it's your namesake so why not?

Wanted to add something else, but I was too lazy. Just wanted to point out you were missing the point of the thread, no reason to hate.

Anyway, going in order, from FOTR

Picture: this was a hard one, since there are some great pics here, but I decided to go with The Irresistible Shadow. The pic, in combination with the title, makes for a very dramatic design, showing Frodo getting tempted.

Flavor: Another hard one, but I looked at Arwen, Daughter of Elrond, and while not the most playable, it's very flavorful, since it's the only time she actually fights, so it's good for a scene in which she's fighting Nazguls.

PITD: Think I'll go with Gandalf, Friend of the Shirefolk. As you said, it's a card that's almost useless in general decks of his culture, but it's great in multi-cultural or Pipeweed decks.

I didn't miss the point of the thread as much as temporarily ignored it.

WK, here are my Mines of Moria picks:
Theme Decks: Uruk Captain - I don't know if you like [Sauron] Uruks, but he makes them pretty playable.
Picture. Gandalf, the Grey Pilgrim - Probably the best Gandalf to splash in a Movie Block deck. I'm sure your actual favorite picture is one of the two Balrogs.
Flavor: Gondor Will See It Done - Can't think of a deck that uses it, but it's a sweet picture and I guess it could have some use in a deck that wants to avoid Shotgun Enquea.

I expected you were going only sets 1-10 ket, so that's fine to me. Everyone else who's in the contest or wants to join, just put the 3 cards you think might be in those categories! I won't comment those comments above until some more comments were added, so just come and join this contest!

Flavor: The Horn of Boromir

Look forward to your PM.
